QUOTE(kenjixx @ Jul 13 2012, 11:54 AM) for landed property most probably you will have no access to the modem Can I configure the Thompson router as a bridge? Just like how people using Unify have the option to use the DIR615 as a bridge and connect a custom router to the DIR 615?no access to the modem means your cannot mess with the vlan setting in the modem your choice will be using a switch with Vlan like this one and then you can use any router you like PS - how much is the Asus router. |

That makes sense now, so if I use that, there won't be VOIP support, unless someone can hack into the modem, but if that's possible, any router can be used together right.
Just wondering, what about the future when maxis launch IPTV, since this router works with unify IPTV, just a matter of time when maxis launches the IPTV, then we just configure the VLAN port? |

Ah, kinda pathetic, considering I have invested in Cisco E2000, which have been very reliable.
Btw, that Asus router, does it support loopback feature? |

QUOTE(wr6969 @ Jul 13 2012, 12:49 PM) Bro, do you mean that for a landed property, the only equipment that the customer can "touch and see" is the superduper crappy Thomson router? So even if we replace this Thomson router with a router like the Asus RT-N13U-B1, the Asus router won't work because we have no modem to mess around with? You can replace the router with Asus router, it will work.Thanks. |

QUOTE(Ahn3hn3h @ Jul 13 2012, 04:50 PM) Is this VoIP SIP compliant? RM20 for line rental if you don't make callsIf can why not consider a soft based app for light users who doesn't want a real phone. Also it only costs RM48 or RM68 to retain your copper TM fixed line with free monthly minutes. Added on July 13, 2012, 5:05 pmAnyway quite curious, why is it that we can access VDSL modem and configure VLAN but can't do the same with fibre modem. QUOTE(wiind @ Jul 27 2012, 11:20 AM) hmm, since we are not able to connect our router to the ONT directly, means the only way left is to connect it to the Thomson instead and set the WAN connection type to DHCP. The clients will then connect only to the custom router and routing/connection will be all handled in the custom router and forward only WAN packet to Thomson. I'm wondering whether we still benefit from better processing power in custom router by using this method Not advisable, Thompson will still be doing routing to custom router and custom router routes to the remaining pc |
