Cool, how much did you pay for your private driver from Hoi An to Hue?

Since I'm on a budget, was thinking of taking the train from Da Nang to Hue instead tongue.gif It's quite cheap at like RM30/person, and according to this website you can still pass by Hai Van and enjoy the scenery - https://www.baolau.com/blog/train-from-da-nang-to-hue/ hmm.gif
*
i paid 55USD or 1.2mil VND for a car from "transfer to hoian" - the company name
your train and car/bike don't pass through hai van pass the same same
u should research what is hai van pass 1st
hai van pass goes uphill and downhill before reach hue and the view along the way is amazing, u do not want to miss it...it's a once in a lifetime thing

if u can ride motor, ride it..it's cheaper

I work from home and technically can be a digital nomad.

Is Hoi An good for one month stay? Not planning anything exciting. Just want to live in a different place, but with good cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, some places for a good walk, and possibility to meet up with other tourists. In short, a chill out place.

Or is Danang better for this?
*
hoi an is a town

danang is more of a city

both are great if u ask me...danang as a city has more things of course
before covid, there're a lot of korean living in danang...not sure now
that's why there's a lotte mart there laugh.gif

Hi I am going for a 4D3N trip to Danang and below is my brief itenerary

1st Day – Arrive Danang at 11am. Take bus to Hue
2nd Day –Explore Hue in the morning. Hue to Hoi An in the afternoon
3rd Day – Explore Hoi An in the morning. Hoi An to Da nang in the afternoon
4th Day – Explore Danang in the morning. Back KL in the afternoon

Appreciate any comments on the above...I am still contemplating whether to go Hue or Hoi An on the 1st day

Also, since I have limited time at all 3 places, appreciate if anyone can advise the must go places in Danang/Hoi An and Hue
*
walao...you're basically rushing through all 3 places/town

hoi an alone deserve like 2 days already
take it slow bro...it ain't worth it to rush through it like that...you'll realize u spend most of the time on the road rather than exploring the town

QUOTE(fullmetalneko @ Aug 14 2023, 09:30 AM)
Just back from Da Nang and I have to say the weather is a killer. Not sure how is it hotter than Malaysia even though we stayed next to the beach. I noticed many tourists walking around with a neck mounted portable fan. Looks silly but given the weather, seems like a good decision.

Travelling around is easy as there are many Grab vehicles available and they are all pretty new and I notice an affinity for MPV type vehicles there hence travelling in a group is easy. We thought we were scammed at the airport as one driver approached us and cancelled our ordered Grab as he claimed that the Grab pickup point was too far away and ushered us into his vehicle instead. He however did charge us the same price and Grab and subsequently gave his contact and throughout our stay it was either himself or his colleague/family member who drove us around. They seem to have this system among them to recommend each other for tourists they pick up at the airport. There were no hanky-panky though and they were very helpful and supportive. Vietnamese seem to drive like madmen though, so even as a passenger any trip is a harrowing affair lol.gif

We visited several places but Ba Na Hills was the standout for me. The whole setup was a mish mash of themes which I felt was pretty strange but the cable car ride (not for people who are afraid of heights) and the view at the top alone was worth the admission price.

Language is a concern but everyone seem to use Google translate which makes things slightly easier.

Another thing we noticed is how clean the place actually is. From the beach to the streets, it is all well taken care of. It makes walking around a very pleasant affair. Just watch out for the traffic as they don't care about the laws of traffic lights either. There is no right of way for pedestrians in Vietnam lol.gif

All in all, it was a pleasant experience overall for a one time trip. Probably worth a return if one is planning to score Korean mois as there are plenty of Korean tourists there tongue.gif
*
many of the "tourist" u saw there aren't really tourist
some are, some not
there is actually a large population of koreans residing in da nang
which is why there is a huge lotte mart there...the whole mall is lotte
go inside you'll realize there's a lot of korean shopping eating inside

and that was quite a few years ago...now should be even more
there's an area which major residences of that area are korean in saigon too....go there, it feels like mini korea

Yeah, figured there may be alot of Korean investment there from the Lotte duty free at the airport. Many drivers using Hyundais and Kias as Grab vehicles too.

Counted 6 flights to Korea out of Da Nang as well, can see there's a sizeable population there.
*
saigon alone expanded from 1 lotte mart few years ago till now they have 3 lotte mart in saigon alone
i'm not sure what are they doing in vietnam for income but there's a lot of them in vietnam....some of them somemore are really rich

in 3-4 years span, vietnam seem to dump all their toyota innova taxi and replace all with diesel kia carnival....a RM200k car here in MY laugh.gif

A few questions,

For Hoi An is it have to be lantern festival only will lit up? Still worth going non-lantern festival?

Any recommended area to stay in Danang? I prefer City part as wont be going for beach as i find Msia ones better lol..

Thanks.
*
the lantern and the street are lit up everyday
danang, just stay at the city center near the bridge, near the lotte mart
just walk or cycle across the bridge to the other side of the beach

Hoi An Ancient Town is not free?

Its listed under klook Super Saver 2 [Up to 17% off]
Hoi An Ancient Town
Thanh Ha Pottery Village
Tra Que Vegetable Village
Coconut Forest Basket Boat Ride
https://www.klook.com/en-MY/activity/75005-...ttraction-pass/
*
there's an entry fee to enter hoi an ancient town
u can buy the ticket at multiple entrance but there are loopholes but i suggest you don't explore that loophole because there are people going around to check your ticket...they don't look at it properly but they just make sure you have it

Get ready to stunned by Korean Language. Da Nang not Vietnam Town....Its a Korea Town. Korean Language everywhere.
*
my last visit to da nang, it's already vietnam town
many koreans migrated there and work/setup business there
da nang is not like HCM where only 1 area is korea town, it's basically the whole da nang

which is also why there is a huge lotte mart there

When was your last visit?
*
few years back
before covid even happened

that time, i already can see koreans everywhere no matter where i go

the lotte mart in da nang also existed way before HCM even got their 1st lotte mart which initially i felt weird why is there a lotte mart in da nang but not in hanoi/HCM, turn out there's a lot of south koreans there

Ba Na Hills worth it?

for someone who've been there...YES

and it doesn't matter the weather is bad or good
i went there during very bad weather, heavy fog but still has a great time and experiment although alot of things can't see...it's the experience laugh.gif
i'm pretty sure that place is gonna be awesome when the weather is clear and sunny

if the weather is bad that day...just bring a raincoat, put it on and go have fun

I'm a bit 50/50 to visit an amusement park during my trip.
I heard that the cable car alone might still be worth a visit—it’s one of the longest in the world and offers stunning views of the mountains.
*
yup...longest in asia if not wrong...it's a very long cable car ride going up

checkout the series tour - they hv 3 series the singature one are premium where they kasi agak below

1. biligual experience coach
2. deluxe coach
3. 5 star hotel
4. better meal - they call it high meal budget  biggrin.gif
and etc.
the price vs cheapest series is x2.5-3
*
1. don't believe that..stated in klook too but main language of the guide is still main, the other language is like half glass water laugh.gif
2. i feel like pretty much all the same...it's a lie to me unless u opt for private tour
3. you can request for this part when you sign up...they should be able to customize
4. you also can request for this

i think what you're looking for is more like a private tour instead which is your own guide for your own family or yourself only
