i got a samyang 8mm.
dont need to MF la...cos the depth of field is very big.

cincai shot with the 8mm at f/5.6.
can see the big depth of field already.

when ur shooting up close, even at f/8 will still able to tell if OOF or not . brows.gif I like it close and personal xD

the DoF is thinner when close

The aboves was shot with the Nikkor 10.5mm on D80

Anyways I rather have AF I'd save up.

QUOTE(Everdying @ Jul 4 2012, 01:35 PM)
maybe i should rephrase.
u still need to MF, but doesnt have to be that accurate cos of the bigger depth of field.

the 10.5mm has MFD of 14cm, at that distance with f/8 there is still 5.45cm of DoF.

Added on July 4, 2012, 1:38 pmof cos infinity at 1m...like the pic of those 2 ppl sitting.
u tell me the background not in focus?

u still need to roughly set the MF distance scale...set around 50cm already if subject is about 1m away like the table.

Added on July 4, 2012, 1:39 pmu can post all the pics u want to show how great u are at getting OOF shots, but depth of field calculator doesnt lie tongue.gif
*
laugh.gif laugh.gif I didnt say the calculator is lying. your initial post said no need to focus jst put to 5.6/f and everything will be fine and dandy. Im just saying, to have a mechanism for focus is better (clearly not shown in my examples, because I chose them for a reason, even with AF still can get OOF shots, and its CLEARLY VISABLE) rather than to do Manual focusing smile.gif chill bro. Im not as technically proficient with calculations and mfd and scales. I flunk maths. rolleyes.gif

and clearly one needs patience and a good eye to do MF. Which is why I didnt want to try macro photography because I dont have patience and I cant squad down for too long. hehe tummy too big. Im not saying MF is bad or wrong. when playing with the tamron SP90, i MF a lot, didnt like it, but thats the lens I borrowed, thats how I use it. That said, the SP90 hunts a lot.

lol.
no la, thats why i rephrase...still need to roughly set the MF distance...and depends on distance to subject also.
of cos closer it is, the DoF thinner...but its still 5cm at the minimum...just simply set the MF scale roughly around there enough already...
not like some lenses DoF can be like 2cm only tongue.gif
*
yup. I guess the best advice is to learn the lens that you have and live with it(if cant, then sell it lo). All the reviews would not mean anything unless you take it and use it. brows.gif

anyone actively using CTO color gels? any suggestion which one to buy?
feel like want to try it. smile.gif
*
color correction gels are good to have and gives nice results if used properly. last time i started w/ SB800 then 900 gels. then got a few set from Nikonian academy, i think about 30+ per set w/ 2 sizes. then recently jst bought from ebay, lee filters 9 gels set (US$5.00+3.70 [shipping]).. i got 3 sets to get cheaper shipping. 2 set is color correction and 1 set for creative lighting which includes ND gels xD always wanted to try ND flash gels hopefully is useful.

i wanna get a sb700 bt tight budget now ..

if its your 1st flash, get a SB700. You will appreciate the consistency and flash cycle speed from Nikon Speedlites. Increase your budget, buy in two - three months time. smile.gif

your point is true..
and also I think partly if the user use it as a 2nd camera.. at least the smaller sensor can provide more DOF.. so can take travel pictures easily. instead of our FF / APS-C that owiz capture us sharp~ but our bg all "bokeh".. kinda sad when travel so far jsut to get bokeh BG.. haha
*
yea like me .. recently... my friends say "who knows where u are... could be at some back alley at my home town..". . . so sad... sweat.gif
