General Information:

Student population (KL Campus): 10,000+

Campus locations:

Kuala Lumpur: Taman Connaught/Connaught Road (South Wing) and Taynton View (North Wing) [Both are close to each other with 10 minute shuttle bus services]

Key campus facilities and features: (I didn't list all)

WiFi connection for students: 5 to 10MBPS (you can connect to UCSI's WiFi/Wireless internet from almost every corner of the campus, even in the toilets, lol)

Swimming pool: Free entry for staff and students, from morning until night. RM 3 entry fee for outsiders. Wearing swimsuits/bikinis/trunks are mandatory. No casual wear allowed.

Squash courts: We have 3 squash courts (2 are currently unavailable right now until end of this year) that are accessible 24 hours. You can practice squash here at North Wing anytime you want!

Badminton courts

Tennis/Basketball courts (not sure whether the basketball court in North could be used as a tennis court or not, I remember someone telling me yes)

Well equipped music rooms and recital halls, pretty sure non Music students are allowed to come and watch the music school student's recitals (they sometimes organize non-profit concerts too, Christian music included~).

5-floor glass walled library with elevator. (pretty quiet, except during exam periods)

South Wing's campus is fully air-conditioned (almost everywhere you go is cold, so if you're wearing mini skirts or sleeveless shirts have to bring jacket I think?) North Wing is more... open air.. their corridors and stuff aren't air conditioned as the area's open air (of course, classrooms and halls are air-conditioned)

We have our own Apple Centre, buy your Apple products such as Macs, Macbooks, iPhones with a discounted price! rolleyes.gif

Which accounting are you referring to, exactly? Well, no matter where you go... there's nothing much you can do about the lecturer... since they come randomly.... sweat.gif

In any of the big name universities, there will always be the 10% great lecturers, 10% not so good lecturers, and the rest are in between. UCSI is not too bad for accounting and their lecturers all have at least a Masters degree. You are talking about the ACCA course or the degree in accounting? Cheers!

Just to share my sister's experience at UCSI.

She's studying accounting at this uni. Management in this uni is not even up to satisfactory. Class timetable changes quite often (due to many silly reasons, lecturers not free etc.., student quantity is little etc..) and sometimes notice is given at pretty late time.

Inquiries are generally slow-responded (when I say slow, is really slow) An example of this, my sister was looking to take internship but she wish to know more about how she can go about her following year if she does an internship and vice versa, also wish to know how she can apply etc.. it took a long time to get answers/ replies, by the time when my sister is clear about internships and decided to apply one, it was already too late. doh.gif

If you choose to pursue your study with this uni, you should not expect to count on the management team/ help desk (which should be informative and designed specifically just to provide info for students) etc..

For course work, I am not sure if all the lecturers in this uni do not take them serious, a few of my sister's lecturers were rubbish. Her lecturer was not able to answer student's questions, always ask student to seek for senior's work, some lecturers gave out student's work in the previous year to let them copy.

Final year project is a total joke. My sister did not get to choose a topic she wanted to do, her proposal was rejected without a good reason. In stead, she was asked to do a topic that was not really related to my sister's course, not even close to my sister's interest. Obviously my sister knew very little thing about the topic suggested by the lecturer. When she went to see her lecturer for some advice, her lecturer gave her some senior's project and told her to follow doh.gif Where is the purpose of study?? Final project should be something a student is very interested to do, learning and knowledge are gained during research and study throughout the project. Only recently, a friend of my sister (junior) also met this lecturer, when this junior went to ask about final year project, this lecturer, very quickly told this junior to do the same topic as my sister was asked to do, and he told this junior to seek for seniors again. WTF ? ! I seriously doubt he will look at students work at the end of the day.

When I want to question this matter( not even up to complain yet), I wrote to the head of department (email), it's been over a year and a half now, I have not received any reply at all.

In conclusion, consider this uni ONLY IF you have a specific interest with them. Otherwise, if it's only the name of this uni, I strongly advice you to think twice.

*This post does not intend to offend anyone, only for the purpose of sharing an actual experience of my sister with this uni.

Class timetable changes every few months because of new intakes and the extreme lack of classrooms... sadly. Lecturers in my case are very free, so free that they become tuition teachers outside of school period. Average of 5 working hours everyday. Management in UCSI sucks, I agree. Especially the Registrar's office, way too understaffed, I had to wait 3 hours (took the number before classes started and went there after classes finish. Feels like Bank Simpanan Nasional there. The staff at the counter are very rude and just love chasing students off. They can be mad but they can't just anyhow scold the students who're waiting for so long just to get their turn...

ouch, my hospital attachment's next year, wonder what'll happen

From what I've heard, the management used to be way worse before this. Oh on the side note, our student council and student participation in events are pretty damn good when compared to other universities such as MMU, Nottingham, etc. We have too many events organized by students and clubs.

For course work, I am not sure if all the lecturers in this uni do not take them serious, a few of my sister's lecturers were rubbish. Her lecturer was not able to answer student's questions, always ask student to seek for senior's work, some lecturers gave out student's work in the previous year to let them copy.
no comment, my A-level lecturers are pretty much not rubbish.
Final year project is a total joke. My sister did not get to choose a topic she wanted to do, her proposal was rejected without a good reason.  In stead, she was asked to do a topic that was not really related to my sister's course, not even close to my sister's interest. Hmm... no comment.. sucks...
When I want to question this matter( not even up to complain yet), I wrote to the head of department (email), it's been over a year and a half now, I have not received any reply at all.
SEGi's much worse, trust me, I know.
In conclusion, consider this uni ONLY IF you have a specific interest with them. Otherwise, if it's only the name of this uni, I strongly advice you to think twice.
I certainly did not consider this uni because of name, as I would've gone with UNMC, HELP, Taylor's or Sunway... it's the only uni that is near to my place... I am very glad that they student activities here are very very interesting.

the fee is not considered cheap but I can say is affordable with it being recognized as a bonus,
it is affordable because it is a home grown based programme where they do not do any twinnings
with other Universities, Pharmacy programme in UCSI is even recognized by the Pharmacy board
any further enquiries? Be glad to help biggrin.gif

Happy go lucky uni. Mid term exam is the chance where student ace their paper as cheating is indirectly allowed. Everything must follow the book, they don't accept evaluation. And not to mention 90% of mid term paper is mcq based. 10% is where they ask u to list down the answers. Just like primary school

Raising the Bar of Design Excellence

Practicality – it is the core value that drives UCSI University’s Praxis concept of applying theory to practice. Praxis is the University’s academic approach to furnish students with unrivalled industrial exposure, within and beyond the classroom.
With this concept, it is of no surprise that students from the University’s School of Design are intensely competitive, constantly pitting their design abilities against teams from other universities in numerous competitions, at both national and international levels.
One such competition was the recently held International Shoe Festival 2012 at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) on 29th March 2012, which was segregated into two categories, namely “Creative Arts” and “Miniature Shoes”.
Four groups of students from the University’s Fashion and 3D Animation Design programmes participated in the competition and bagged four consolation prizes in total, two for each category.
The students’ winning art pieces from the Creative Arts category were entitled "Summer in the Garden" and "The Opera" while "The Gothic" and "The Dream" were the winning showcase titles for the Miniature Shoes category.
The “Creative Arts” theme necessitated participants to design apparel and a pair of shoes using recycled items, strictly without sewing and the use of fabric.
As for the "Miniature Shoes" category, students were required to design a series of at least 6 original shoe designs through various techniques – with a measurement limit of 3-5 inches per shoe – complete with backdrops and platforms as part of their showcase.
The festival is an annual event organised by the Malaysia Footwear Manufacturers Association (MFMA) and The Tourism Board of Malaysia, initiated by YB Dato' Sri Dr. Ng Yen Yen and Dato' Jimmy Choo.
Officiated by Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah, the festival aims to create an international platform for industry players and young talents in the field of design to showcase and promote their original footwear to a global audience.
Undoubtedly, participants were able to gain valuable insight to intricacies in the industry pertinent to their professional development, such as teamwork and communication skills, to name a few, especially during interactions with key market practitioners.
One of the participants, Foong Sze Wei, from the School’s 3D animation programme, said "The competition has helped me learn and develop new skills in fashion design.”
She added that although this was her first time participating in the competition, she was proud to represent the University and had put her best foot forward when competing with some of the more experienced competitors.
Teoh Sim Tee, a fashion student from one of the University’s winning teams, commented “We took almost two to three months to develop the shoe designs. During the designing process, I learned to juggle time between studies and working on the project for the competition.”
It was a good learning experience, she said, especially in terms of communicating well to the audience and coherently presenting the designs as well as developing good teamwork.
Nur Mashita Bt. Kamalun Ariffin, Head of the School’s Fashion Design department, commented “Competitions are an excellent learning platform for students to stay in touch with the latest updates (in the industry).”
She added that students were also able to interact with and receive constructive feedback directly from prominent figures in the industry, such as those selected as judges in competitions.
Irene Tan, a lecturer from the Faculty of Social Sciences & Liberal Arts, said that the festival was also a great way for the students to evaluate (and put to practice) what they had learnt and gauge the strengths of other participants – in short, a comparison of skills and techniques.
Another event that took the spotlight recently was the Science Meets Art exhibition cum competition installed at the Kuala Lumpur Library Gallery at Dataran Merdeka in March this year, organised by the Goethe-Institut Malaysia and Pusat Sains Negara.
The competition hoped to elevate student awareness on the relationship between art and science – that is often intertwined – and how science is reflected in art and lifestyles, among others.
Foong Sze Wei and Tang Man Ying from the School bagged the second and third place, respectively – beating more than 280 participants from various colleges and universities. David Ng, from the same School, was also selected for one of five Special Mention prizes.
Apart from competitions, the University’s students are also actively involved in community-related projects. On 16 June, twelve volunteer students were involved in the beautification of Tadika Sri Cempaka in Taman Cuepacs, and decorated the kindergarten with mural paintings.
Discussions are also in place to beautify a paediatric ward with twenty five paintings.
Notably, the School places strong emphasis on practical, hands-on training – thus exposing its students to the various aspects of industrial practices and ethics.
Mashita commented that UCSI University is the only university in Malaysia to offer a degree in which fashion design makes up 75 percent of its curriculum and the other 25 percent comprises marketing-related subjects.
The practical-based programme not only provides students with knowledge in fashion design, she said, but in business and marketing aspects as well.
Dennis Wong Chee De, Head of the School’s 3D Animation department, commented “We place more emphasis on specialisation, which means that students are already equipped with the fundamental skills upon graduation.”
Feedback from our industry partners, he said, is that much time and effort still needs to go into training students, especially during placements and internships.
He added “Here, we ensure that students are fully equipped with practical experience and possess specialised skills because the field of 3D Animation is very broad.
For example, students can major in 3D animation or 3D modelling, among others. This is how we have designed our curriculum.”
Guest speakers, industry advisors and external examiners are often invited, he said, to ensure that the programme is kept relevant to the latest industry updates.
In line with the Praxis approach, plans are afoot to build an in-house design studio, similar to a full production studio, where students will be exposed to real-life studio learning.
Deliberations are also in place to establish a production studio that takes on actual industry projects, which will involve both students and lecturers alike.

Not entirely sure, but I hear that it'll be fine as long as you have way surpassed the minimum band score for the English tests, (MUET: Band 4 min but preferably 5 & above, IELTS: Min Band 6 but pref 7 and above) TOEFL would be 570 minimum. Please do remember that this is just the English requirement, you still need to do exceptionally well in the interview before getting accepted into the programme.
