Hi all fellow androidians, I've just started using USB OTG cable.
Using my pendrive to watch movies and all.
Should I be worried with the viruses and install antivirus to my phone?

Any recommended antivirus?
*
Android, is by definition a Linux OS, and is impervious to all PC-Windows viruses. With that said, you should install an antivirus anyways since there's a good one (Avast Mobile Security). The viruses you'll be susceptible will come in the form of APKs or apps that you install (even from Google Play Store). Avast also has a good anti theft module. It's light on system resources too.

hi
any1 know how to block samsung imei??

phone lost
*
Can't block in Malaysia. Try installing Lookout Plan B to see if you can recover your phone (assuming you don't have any anti theft software on your phone).

hmm...antivirus for smartphone rid spyware or not?you know the thing that can access info on your phone
*
It depends. Someone needs to identify the app first before antivirus companies make a signature for it. For now, don't install any apps that needs too many permissions.

If you linked the phone to your google account, and the person turns on the wifi, it will install Plan B automatically and alert you the location.

Pika, bout your 3 script; S7darky_zipalign, S90tweaks, S98system_tweak. these three script simply placed in dir etc/init.d then set permission 755. then done right? or do i need another extra step? like in script manager? is it become an issue if these three script execute later than custom rom script?
*
I don't have S90tweaks. Where did you get that?

Also, please read the ThunderBolt! thread. I think you're confused somewhere already.

QUOTE(Eiraku @ Jun 14 2012, 04:10 PM)
In short: Android apps (APKs) are simply compressed archives. Zipaligning arranges the contents of the archives in proper order so that it can run faster and eat less memory (RAM).

@Dark_Angel: Will do. Currently the only way of doing so is changing kernels, as IINM only Siyah has this.
*
Run faster might be a bit of a stretch. Better RAM consumption for the app is correct though.

I guess in computer world, it's equivalent to 'Defrag' programme. So how should I align the zip? Got software to do so?
*
Not exactly, as once you zipalign, you don't need to zipalign again until you update the APK (and the update APK is coincidently not zipaligned).

Pikachu, Antt00 and others (thank you~ )

as a newbie, can you help me to understand the phone system architecture?

Kernel = like a BIOS in computer, the most important thing.
ROM = modified version of Windows, like Professional, Home, Student edition.
Launcher = modified version of Windows Start button
Widget = mini program like Gadget in Windows 7.
Script = ??

Correct me of the above if I'm wrong. Wikipedia gives too jargon-ish explanation. Can help to put things into perspective?
*
Kernel is like a Linux kernel (Windows has its own kernel), that's why you can technically install Ubuntu onto an Android phone (with a different kernel).

Launcher is like a KDE and Gnome, just a user interface to your apps.

Widget is like Widgets, nothing can explain them better.

Scripts are scripts. Small commands executed batched into a file by the operating systems .

Thanks a lot. In this case, you can have different ROM with the same Kernel right?

I understand that the benefit of:

custom ROM: different system (like windows professional, home, basic...)
custom launcher: different user experience on top of the ROM.
custom script: to zip-align and have customized settings on the phone.

custom kernel: ??? what benefit it brings?
*
Custom ROM can also bring graphical changes. Custom kernel changes the drivers (like the notification lights drivers enabling BLN), improves speed/battery life through tweaks in the kernel itself.

[ro.SECONDARY_SERVER_ADJ]: [4]
[ro.BACKUP_APP_ADJ]: [5]
[ro.HOME_APP_ADJ]: [6]

others are the same. did i miss out anything?

Thanks.
*
ThunderBolt! LMK addon? Did you check that the MEM is the same? The ADJ should be the same too.

You should charge to full first, then wait till it drops to nearly empty ~ 10-20%, then only dump the stats smile.gif
