according to gsmarena.com
All Symbian fans and users might want to sit
down while reading this. According to the Product
Marketing Manager for Nokia South Europe
Mathias Fiorin, Symbian Carla has been cancelled. Nokialino, an Italian Nokia fan site, claims to have
spoken with Mathias Fiorin, so the infomation
should be pretty accurate. He says Carla is now known as FP1. But it is not
just a name change - both upcoming Feature
Packs won't bring major updates, HD screens and
dual-core CPU support. Basically Belle is the last
major Symbian release the world will get. If all of this is true then Symbian is as good as
dead. There is no better way to put this – there
will be no Carla or Donna. The final update will be
Belle’s upcoming Feature Pack 2 and, as you can
guess, that will hardly be a game changer. We have to wait for an official announcement,
though it does makes sense – as the Symbian
market share diminishes rapidly, Nokia is putting
all its efforts into Windows Phone.

Belle is NOT fine.
Look at Nokia Store, no new games or apps that can be found at Google Play or App Store.

Now to me Symbian phones are as good as normal phones for basic users

Yea, WP7 for Nokia. But I hate the fact that the current Lumia series might not be getting Apollo. Which is kinda sad as they won't get a major upgrade and no custom roms around

damn letme get this straight already.
Carla and Donna news is not confirmed yet, and so does Apollo not going to current Lumia. There is no concrete/official source yet. GSMarena IS NOT official source.
Custom rom for WP7 _tango_ already available, go google.

Carla and Donna news not confirm and not official, but most probably true bro. Also considering that they ditched Symbian to Accenture even makes sense.

Yes Tango custom rom got because Lumia series planned to get Tango anyway, but Apollo don't know la

JUST MAYBE, I SAID MAYBE, ITS JUST MY GUESSING:

After Google bought Motorola, they can produce their own Android phones. So why give Samsung and other companies the Android OS for free? Surely they will charge them with a high price or what. So maybe Samsung, HTC and Sony may consider changing OS? biggrin.gif

But this won't happen for the next five years, because it was already stated in the contract. So we might just wait and see what happens to Motorola and Android after 5 years smile.gif

the price quite expensive as the competition is very strong.. plus samseng s3 price only rm2100+..
the decision is yours.. if u favor more apps, games, emulator..maybe u can try android..
else if u do alot of photography but lazy to bring out extra camera, this phone certainly does the job done.. nod.gif nod.gif
the downside is not much apps/games..but it does have all basic apps..
hardware n os wise, 1.3ghz with fp1 certainly will give smooth experience..
maybe got some lag sometime.. later on, i sure there will be alot cfw made by modder, like n8..
my expreience with n8,even with 680mhz, with modded cfw, it way better than low end android phone.. nod.gif nod.gif
check your requirement, budget..or wait for price lower abit nod.gif nod.gif

You have strong points there.

Although I don't play many games and certainly can live without them, I do watch YouTube and RSS a lot. Any comments regarding this on symbian belle fp1?

Its a none issue.

Look, no matter how anyone look at it, survival of a phone relied alot upon presence of apps. So sooner or later Symbian is going to die. But it will survive for a few good years.

Afterall, a phone's lifespan is also about 5 years anyway, at least for a smart phone.

So its important that we cover our arses first -- make sure one can transfer our existing phone data to future phone OS. And ability to backup our existing ones, eg. apps that can do backup such as iDriveLite in iOS which I use.

Saying that, is there any backup apps in symbian that has similar apps for data backup ?

After we backup, we can literally enjoy any phone OS we like. iOS and android does have apps that go beyond gaming. I for one, uses phone to access my house CCTV, data backup, read up my google documents occasionally, and occasiona PPS videos ! I don't play games, well, rarely. But I do look for something that Nokia has right now, eg. the 41MP phone camera which I drool upon.

So yes I will get one for what I would need. For the apps usage, I have found mostly similar apps for what I need as listed above, except perhaps the PPS apps and iDriveLite. As long as my data is backed up well, I think I may change to other OS in future. So symbian's survival is not relevant to be honest.

yes you are right.. well, it depends on the needs.. that why many jump ship to android/ios as it offer more apps, games..
for me, my n8 now serve as 2nd phone, with occasional calling n texting.. and also for taking picture.. nod.gif nod.gif
and i believe those stick with symbian bcoz they did not need to use 10000+ apps, for now..
and also bcoz of awesome camera.. smile.gif smile.gif

The apps can be very useful indeed. Eg. went to one utama to look for nokia shop to ask for 808, immediately I can install oneU apps in my iphone and look for the shop. Its ironic indeed.

Which means apps is still king no matter how faithful you are towards symbian.

still got working tough nokia 5800Xm and Samsung Omnia HD symbian. i feel sad how internal struggle in nokia let symbian die. in fact, symbian was not far away from android in similarities. just symbian is taken slow moving to bulit the ecosystem for it's sustainability so lead to it's death. developers whos developing symbian previously is leaving them to androids to secure their job. nobody will stay with the sinking boat.

symbian will always a 'guru' to all IOS...no symbian, no androids. Shame NOKIA,
no wonder u also sink with it.

RIP symbian.

sad to know that Symbian is dead as it is really a good phone as newer generations that is category of old uncle market or the image of holding a Nokia black and white / or Color phone.

I always keep it as my second or third phone as really good for standby as needed.

I wish that Symbian OS will not die completely. Coz many many old uncle like me will cry....coz Symbian had already brought us Happy time, a good value phone for us. Still can remember my first Symbian Phone by Sony Ericsson that with GPRS and then Nokia phone with 3G.

Yes, it's unavoidable. It's not actually dead but there is no more support for few important softwares, the most important being Whatsapp and for that reason I have moved on from the Nokia Pureview 808 since last year.

The Nokia Pureview 808 remains the king when it comes to photography apart from the Panasonic CM1. It's my favourite camera phones as I always turn to it when I need to take high quality images.

Still simbian, if it hadn't been forgotten, would be now somewhere at the level of android or ios.  And let's face it, may be even higher.s  The thing is it was really cool at its time.

if symbian is still alive it would be dead because of the OS limitation and lack of apps support. Meego had a future but nokia killed it

Kids nowadays will never knew what symbians is. I grow up with 3310, then first color phone, then nokia sabun 6600, then nokia N series, and suddenly there's iphone and android.

Love the nokia N series. So many models, and various advertising. I remember the N95 being sold at RM2099 at Low Yat plaza. My first N series is N73, bought at 1.4k. So many sweet memory during that Era. Java games, Ultra MP3 app, etc. Ahh good old days.

I miss my last Symbian phone. Nokia5800. I still remember when there was an update that included the slide photo and all the fancy effects that iPhone had.
