yes it depends... mine was quite problematic, d layer on water surface, i swear i can even pick up the layer with lidi... some say its because of OD antichlorine, but i dosed ngam2... some cfu here suggest black molly to fix, but my tank is quite crowded adi... so last choice, use surface skimmer... ugly piece of equipment (planning to cover it with moss later...lol...) but, does its job perfectly

catch those diseased, separate to other aquarium, n medicate... n do massive waterchange i guess... thats what i do...

that filter can become a nano tank itself...lol...

laaaaarge.... one day ill make an aquarium like this n put in my house's living room (angan2 mat jenin lol...) all 4 side is visually pleasing... nice...

edit:- after reading a little,(plus logical reasoning) i think it is true, that it is better to dose ferts off photoperiod,

1. some nutrients may/may not photo-dissociatable/degradable...

2. plant generally grow faster during night, during day they mainly photosynthesize. nutrients is mainly for plants to grow not for photosynthesize...

well... depends on types of algae, but u can try amano shrimp or malayan shrimp... or maybe nerite snail...or borneo suckerfish...or trumpet snail...

chlorox would fix that...

wat i do for mine=

1. put clorox (undiluted) just enough to cover my diffuser. leave it for 5 minutes (or until ceramic of my diffuser is white)
2. wash with water...put antichlorine just enough to cover the diffuser again (leave it roughly ard 5 minutes)
3. using 12cc syringe, (connect with co2 hose, fit perfectly in my case) connect with the diffuser, suck the antichlorine into the diffuser slowly... then when antichlorine dry, terbalik n slowly blow the antichlorine out
4. repeat step 3, n then rendam ( in 2 part water : 1 part antichlorine solution) for roughly 10-20 minutes n it is good as new!

doesnt look like soil....more like gravel or sand, coz usually, planted tank cannot use undergravel filter... but this one recommends it...

u can try dose liquid ferts if u want...

btw HC is quite demanding... are u sure u given enough light/CO2
