wah..talked about torque..

hmm..how to improve torque in our beloved campro high revving?

mine juz switch off air-cond...torque improved... laugh.gif

Mine too thumbup.gif rclxms.gif

Eh how come your Porsche runs on Campro one ah?? rclxub.gif

Now I wonder how a 1.3 Campro CFE would be like. Something like 160-180 nm would be great. Maybe Potong can consider for Saga v.3 icon_idea.gif

- If paired with a CVT, I believe it can dabao the FLX SE CVT. I think the Manual variant can already do that.

Heh the Paul Tan Review even compares it with the BMW 320i tongue.gif

QUOTE(+Newbie+ @ Jun 10 2012, 12:52 AM)
Eh, I better disclaimer first.

Please bear in mind that my Saga is a BLM and not an FLX which would have stiffer suspensions and thicker rear anti roll bar. So if you don't get the same results I do, don't blame me yeah.  sweat.gif  sweat.gif

I imagine the FLX with those upgrades would have less potential for improvement.
I Eco mode stifles the performance of the car in favor of saving fuel. You should have switched it to another more sportier mode.
Same here man. It's like my own NOS switch. Turn the dial, automatically extra acceleration edi. laugh.gif
*
No lah, even if I can't feel any difference I'm not gonna come back here and whine at you innocent.gif I choose to trust your feedback and if I'm disappointed there's no one to blame. Not expecting any handling miracles but if improves in any way I'll be satisfied smile.gif

QUOTE(coolkwc @ Jun 10 2012, 09:45 PM)
LPLB EPS only got 2 profiles, 1 is below 60km/h, the steering feel very light, one is >60km/h, the steering will lock and feel heavy. This is definitely cheap skate design and can't feel the linearity about the control, either too light or too heavy.

Ppl always said EPS is rubbish, lack of road feedback, but IMO, only LPLB EPS is rubbish, actually EPS itself is good if design correctly.
*
Well, looking at the high performance level, the new Porsche 911 has EPS. This reviewer says it has less feel than the old hydraulic one, but it's still accurate and not really an issue.

As for the DBW, I think I'm really not used to the lag in throttle response after the initial input, really does get some getting used to, definitely will need to get a dbw throttle controller if I decide to proceed with the Saga FLX as a daily driver.
*
If you think it's bad enough on the CVT try driving the manual. You have to adapt quite a bit to the lag to shift gears smoothly sweat.gif

UNsurprisingly, Kenari is also very hard to terbalik. If you park it side by side to Kelisa, go up to 5th floor condo and use your visual measure them. Their wheel base/length is almost SQUARE! Which means the COG is focused. Besides of weight distribution more to front engine compartment, the whole car is well balanced.

What about the Meevee leh?

QUOTE(dares @ Jun 11 2012, 02:22 PM)
Y I NO LIKE TORSION BEAM SUSPENSION

Here's a stretch of road that I travel daily and like to FnF coz got straights and corners and not many cars. Got sometime just now so I make nice nice illustration  wub.gif

The red line is the seam where two road is joined and as you can see in the elevation drawing, it is in effect a bump.

Everytime I come out of the turn, my left tyres will fly through the seam first before the right tires. Front tires of course no problem, but when the rear tires go thru, I can feel both wheels "hop", and the tail will swing ever so slightly because when the left wheel goes up, the right wheel tends to follow due to the torsion beam. I can only imagine how it's gonna be if I install a rear ARB  unsure.gif  unsure.gif

No such problem in my old Waja, which has independent rear suspensions.  thumbup.gif
*
I know how that feels. Like I said it happens all the time when I take corners on a bumpy surface. That's why, my next car will not have a torsion beam rear suspension nod.gif

+1. You never know when things can go wrong. Besides, if you care about looks, I think the B-line / Standard looks a bit plain unless you're planning to mod and add bodykits.

The jerking at low speed is due to our CVT being clutch-base than torque converter. Torque converters are smoother because they can absorb shock or sudden engine input, which is also why they are less efficient.

Just have to train your right foot and learn to use the handbrake.
*
Seems like the computer controlled clutch still can't beat a foot clutch operated by an experienced driver for smoothness. But I don't remember such jerking when I was driving my friend's FLX hmm.gif

So you kenot park your ISWAGA there any more, if they see you again sure ask for payment laugh.gif Or you just tell them that you never asked them to wash in the first place...

I've never waxed my GAGA before, only self-handwash every week or two unsure.gif

This trip is not about FC, it's vroom vroom time rclxms.gif Especially up and down Cameron Highlands. If I wanna get max FC I'd drive down to Malacca first and up north whistling.gif

Still, I expect to average less than 8L/100km this trip.

Okay then here's the trip report.

Had only 4 hours of sleep. Woke up at 6:30 am. Left at 7 sharp. Odometer reading, 39,524 km and about 140 km on the trip meter, from the past few days of driving in KL. Four bars remaining = ) Joined PLUS at Sungai Buloh junction. After the Sungai Buloh Hospital junction there was a massive jam, and it wasn't even moving icon_question.gif Thankfully after twenty mins the queue cleared and I saw the police, PLUS Ronda and other people on the left side, couldn't really see what was there but on the right side there was a gaping hole in the divider. Probably from an accident last night.

I cruised at about 110 km/h, reached Tapah R&R just before 9 am. Went for a toilet break, had a sausage bun for breakfast and filled up. Odometer reading then was 39,659 km, which means that I travelled 135 km from PJ to Tapah, and 285 km since the last fuel up. Amount filled was 20.327 litres, giving 7.1L/100km.

Exited at Tapah and got onto the trunk road. For the first 10 km or so the road was empty (no one in front or behind me), and pretty flat too so I just stayed in 5th gear. The first obstacle was a lorry, to my surprise the driver slowed to the side and waved at me to overtake when it was safe. Then later there was a slight queue of three cars, a Dugong going slowly, behind the Dugong a Waja followed by a 6th generation Civic. Then later a Cherry Easter MPV appeared behind me. When it was clear I overtook the Civic and Waja both in one go, then subsequently the Dugong. Surprisingly the Cherry followed suit. I think there were one or two other excavators after that too.

I switched off the air-cond when my GPS showed elevation of about 300 metres.

The stretch between Tapah and Ringlet isn't really steep, I was shifting mainly between third and fourth gear. The first bar of the fuel gauge dropped after about 70 km. This is about the same as my usual city consumption (which is better than most because I seldom get stuck in jams).

The Cherry stayed behind me all the way until Ringlet. After Ringlet the road became busier, but it wasn't so narrow. I drove on, climbing higher and higher until Brinchang, where I stopped somewhere just after Equatorial for a few minutes to stretch my legs. GPS elevation there was 1,616 metres

The Simpang Pulai downhill road was a good drive. You can touch 70-80 km/h quite frequently, I think at one point I went over 100 km/h. There are a few corners where you need to slow down to 40 km/h but those are rare. Look out for the giant [>] or [<] signboard.

Surprisingly both roads were well maintained, fairly smooth and even. There were a few landslide spots but JKR workers were actively working on the site.

Now, about the car. I don't have experience driving other cars on these kind of roads, but subjectively, I thought it did rather well, considering everything's completely stock. Having a manual tranny helps too. It's always good to have total control over your gears. I always complain about the gear ratios being too short, but I guess it's a plus point for uphill driving. As it's my first time on that road I didn't push too hard, but drove at a pace I felt comfortable with.

I was driving alone, with about 30 kg of stuff in the boot. For climbing and overtaking, I felt the engine wasn't underpowered at all, as long as the correct gear is selected. I didn't rev high, about 3,000 RPM gave sufficient torque. There are quite a few things which could be improved, the A pillar really gets in the way during right corners (I had a near miss with a bus because of that), and I've brought this up a few times before, the placement of the accelerator and brake makes it impossible for me to practice heel and toe unless I find a way to raise the accelerator.

So overall it was a very enjoyable drive and I will definitely be going back again soon.

At Simpang Pulai I joined the highway again for a short stretch to Ipoh. Picked my friend for lunch and then we both went back to Penang, and finally:

(My apologies for the quality)

Final odometer reading today is 40,020 km, which means I've driven a total of 496 km today.

Awesome FC man. Yeah the Saga is really awesome on highways. I was surprised to be pushing up to 380km despite driving like an idiot.
*
I haven't tried diagnosting the sound yet.

After my analysis, I think I'd rate driving style second from traffic conditions in FC factors. I did a test once, driving one tank as if petrol was free, and to my surprise I still did 8.1L/100km for that tank, far better than if I drove gently but was stuck in traffic. On the highway, your right foot becomes important. Drive way beyond the limit (140 km/h+) and it will come close to 8L/100km, slow down to 80-90 km/h and a low 6.x is possible.

15w40 ady... no change. 2krpm shift doesn't work, infact got worsen. Now with Simota hai flow + vacuum warning all the time, managed to get about 9litre/100km. Weird stuff is, even if I go long distance, the fuel consumption doesn't go down at all  It stays exactly the same as I'm having traffic jam in KL every day in and out of office. In fact, lately changed to 15" + 55 oversized tayar, I managed to hit 11km/l more often than previous days using larn jiauw M3 on a larn jiauw 13" steel rims with a pancakes slap on it

Anyway, my wife managed to make it <9km/litre. Ended up she went pour 38litres of petrol   guess she broke many people's most emptiest fuel tank record liao. Anyway, next service will be 10w30.
*
I was thinking about BMW M3 for a while before I realised you meant Silverstone M3 laugh.gif

I don't see any 38L fuel up in your Fuelly log?

I did think of starting off the trip with a full tank, but since I still had four bars left on the meter I decided to drive to Tapah and fill up there, cos I wasn't sure if I could complete the hill trip with the full tank from PJ. I haven't filled up since Tapah, got two bars left, so look out for my next Fuelly update soon.
