Someone once explained to me for the following desirable for brake pads:

Minimal brake dust
Strong bite
Quiet

You only get to pick 2 for your brake pads. Dunno how true is that.

SOOooo...today got a few hours free, nothing better to do so saje saje went to a Perodua dealership and requested to test drive the LBLP.

Once we got in the car, the SA was enthusiastic, explaining to me some of the features (Which of course I already know), and manage to sneak in a few swipes at Proton as well. Being abit impatient, I told him to buckle up coz I wanna start the test drive.

As soon as I turn into the main road, he notice that it was getting dark, as in it was going to rain. A look at his face I know what he's thinking dy, his dealership is one of those who frowns upon test drives in the rain.

So, he starts talking about the car's awesome TURNING RADIUS, and tells me he will demonstrate to me how small it is. He ask me to pull over on a 2 lane road, which still had cars coming and going, AND ASK ME TO MAKE A U TURN. I was of course hesitant la, coz got cars. But since he said so, takkan I take him on a joyride, so when a window of opportunity appeared, I quickly made a U TURN and began driving back to the dealership, parked the car and thus ended the test drive.

So, after today's "test drive", I am happy to report that the LBLP can, indeed, make a U TURN on a two lane road.

My daughter got her Saga FLX 1.6 SE (Red) today. The car looks good and drives well. Fit n finish also pretty good. But i just have 2 questions n i hope the sifus can help.

The paint work has a lot of swirls like the waxing or polishing job by proton was not good. How do i get rid of the swirls ?

The brakes feel very wooden. Can i do anything to improve the feel N bite ?

thank you
*
swirl marks probably came from the car wash where your SA sent to before delivering the car. You can try waxing it.

As for the brakes, I don't understand what you mean by wooden.

QUOTE(lhwj @ May 19 2012, 11:16 PM)
So where did you park your FLX at the Perodua dealer? icon_idea.gif

Surprised that your rear brakes are giving so much trouble. I would have been pretty annoyed if that happened to me.
I think they'll feel better once they're worn in after a bit of driving.
*
Of course I park far far away. If the SA realize I just bought a new Proton, don't think he'll layan me laugh.gif

Speaking of brakes and Perodua, looks like word about Maivee's stock brakes being rubbish is true. I had to press quite deep before the car slows down. Can't imagine driving at speed and needing to stop in a hurry.

Thanks lhwj and dares for yr replies.

The brakes feel like hard N not spongy enough N does not slow the car down fast enough. I feel like there shud be more feel like gradual slowing down of the car when u brake. Hope i explained clearly. thanks guys
*
Hmmm, mine works fine, comparable to the old gen Vios in my family. Maybe try using it for a while and see if it improves as the brake pad beds in.

There is only one Proton COE lols. COE = Center of Service Excellence, at Subang Jaya off Kesas highway.

Hmmmm I wonder what you would have said if he asked what car you're currently driving tongue.gif
Maybe you're too used to our brakes. I do realise our brakes do bite pretty abruptly, other cars I've driven like the Kamry and Volvo also need to be pressed quite far before it starts to bite properly. Much more progressive. It's been ages since I last drove a Maivee so I can't remember how it felt like. But if you're saying that the LBLP can't brake hard even when you press it to the max then I guess you're right.

*
He did ask, I simply spout out Kelisa tongue.gif

As for the brakes, I am also comparing to the Vios, not just our gaga. blush.gif

Thanks davidke20. Will do. You guys have been really helpful.
*
I think I should add this: I had my rear drumbrakes replaced before, before the replacement the brakes felt a bit spongy and slow to bite, but after the replacement it improved quite noticably. Maybe there were air bubbles in the brake lines before, I'm not sure.

lol strong bite....

The correct term is maximum operating temperature.

BTW, there are a few types of brake sets which fits the criteria above: one of them being carbon composite brakes or carbon ceramic composite brakes.

Try Esso or Caltex.

And when you say changed driving style, means how you drive now?

At my place don't have Esso/Caltex.. Hehe I drive slowly.. Only few times change to N..  Always drive around 2k rpm.. Slow acceleration..

Before this I'm driving fast and too many times change to N.. Don't even care about rpm.. Fast acceleration..
*
Need to see how you actually drive before I can comment. Now I keep at 2k even during acceleration, very noticable improvement in FC, my city drive at regular 80-90kmh stretches with the occasional congestion is almost as good, if not better than my highway FC at 120kmh.

Other factors like the traffic condition and road condition also have to be taken into account, one driving style is not always suitable for all conditions.

OR, wait for your FC to improve as your engine "matures".

Actually, I see in your fuelly you get the occasional 11km/l is quite good compare to mine before the first service.

Thanks for sharing fellas, I also found the screw inside the door loose for all 4 doors vmad.gif

As for the three screws around the door latch, all were tight except for the front passanger door, where all three of them were not tightened.

Good catch!

there are at least 6 main possibilites:

1. battery weak
2. alternator weak
3. got some place around the car shortcircuit that make it drain ur battery for duno what.
4. battery weak
5. battery weak
6. battery weak

biggrin.gif
*
I think it's number 5. rclxms.gif

There are no guarantees how long a battery can last, only theoretical estimates. 4 years if you're lucky, 6 months if you're not. My friend's Vios battery kong in less than a year.

RM50-100 jz a conservative guess. if we'll need to service the same stupid problems every month if 1 month cost 100, 12 months = RM1200. this amount eating into installment payment which is big disadvantage to take up a problematic car.

complain bcos i like this car & plan to have it once the problem solved on the new batch of saga.
*
Dont need to service every month la. It is just sound, does not affect the effectiveness of the brake. When you really cannot tahan, pay 800 bucks and retrofit disc brakes. All in your car still cheaper than a Myvi.
