QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Oct 19 2013, 12:24 AM) I'm not sure whether you are using auto focus or manual focus for your shots Manual focus. Yeah I usually do that, same method as the old auto focus lock to estimate the focus. Usually for macro shots, the latter would be easier or faster. When you are using macro lenses or extension tubes, the DOF will become very shallow, so one of the tricks to getting a sharp shot of the part you want (the dragonfly's eyes for this case), is to learn your body forward and back while looking at your screen (or optical viewfinder for DSLR). From there, just "estimate" when the eyes will be sharp, then just press! It takes some practice at 1st, but after you are familiar with it, it will become natural haha~ That's how I usually shoot anyway, I never touch the focusing ring on my lens at all, so that I have one free hand to hold the flash since I don't have brackets ay the moment I'm sure you will take even better photos when you have ET or macro lenses |

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Oct 19 2013, 07:36 AM) I'm not very good with technical terms haha, but it sounds like we are referring to the same thing Ok thx for the advice, I go try again some other time.Though I don't think by turning the small focusing ring will help get sharper shots with ET and macro lens (based on my noob experience la I think the problem you mentioned with "macro" or "super macro" on phones/ compact cameras is because of the small sensor sizes on the said devices. Small sensor = less details, so no matter how you try, the details will not be there |

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Oct 21 2013, 10:17 PM) ~RM500 as it still enables AF to work when attached. However, when paired with the 50mm F1.8g, its so slow and inaccurate that you might as well forget about it In your flickr there which ones are taken using the RM30 ET?Still, the Kenko is not without other advantages, its more solid than normal RM30 extension tubes, enabling it to be paired with heavier lens without bending. I intend to pair my ET with a 105mm macro lens one day, and that lens is not exactly very light Based on what I've experienced, there's no real need to go for expensive ET if you are pairing it with a light lens |

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Oct 21 2013, 10:23 PM) None lol, I don't have the RM30 ET But your ET can work with both AF and MF, while the RM30 can't even work with MF right? Fixed focus only? Its just the matter of difference in build (and of course, the not-so-useful AF capabilities) between Kenko and normal ET. After all, they are just hollow tubes |

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Oct 22 2013, 05:08 PM) As previously mentioned, although it can work with AF, it is totally useless since its just hunting all the time LOL I don't think anyone uses auto focus for macro shots RM30 ones can support manual focus?I've given up using the AF when paired with a 50mm F1.8g haha, will update once I try it on the 105mm micro~ But you can definitely rely on the Kenko tubes to support heavy lenses (even my 24-70mm F2.8@~1kg) though I wouldn't advice doing that too much Rm30 ones are good enough to support a 50mm prime lens, or the 16-50mm kitlens for your case, save the money I'm actually trying to help my friend find an ET for her NEX-5 as well. If you want, I can try and take some photos with it 1st, then feedback lol |

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Oct 22 2013, 05:38 PM) Extension tubes are merely hollow tubes bro Thank you. Will see your sample pics before making decision, unless I get too excited and buy first before u....cuz it's only RM30 With the RM30 ET (which is just a plastic tube to connect the lens to your DSLR body), you will not be able to use your AF anymore since the electronic link between the body and the lens is lost. So yes, its all manual from there Read here for more details on extension tubes: http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-...nification.html QUOTE(sukhoi37 @ Oct 14 2013, 09:01 PM) Shutter speed how long? |
