no one can be sure whether KD will eventually bring liverpool back to the heights if he stayed for a few more years, although the same can be said about the opposite. in the end, the owners had only one thing in mind - success. if money is the motivation, the it will be the small trophy that comes with it. i dont see how its a losing situation for the club.
i understand there are a large number of fans who are more sentimental towards the liverpool way etc. even if the owners cannot understand or embrace the liverpool spirit, we, the fans, should never forget it is we who are supposed to uphold the spirit. the club has always been in our hands and hearts, and so it shall be no matter what happens. |

QUOTE(digilife @ May 22 2012, 07:38 PM) Currently all our players including Aqualiani,Cole,Kuyt,Maxi and Pacheco wont be sold till the new manager, expected to be between AVB or Capello comes in. these are still useful players, especially pacheco, would love to see what he can offer after so much promise. aquaman should be the missing playmaker we never hadLets hope for the best that all stays. |

QUOTE(Adryan @ May 22 2012, 07:43 PM) Yup, we certainly can't but like I said, if we're going to give someone like Martinez 30 million to spend in his first season, it would have been better to give it to Kenny for him to continue his rebuilding. perhaps someone convinced the owners that KD is not going to survive the test in this new era... but to be honest, the more you invest, the higher your hopes? come on, 100m for a CL spot, i dont think its too much to ask. when we failed miserably (8th instead of 5th?), i think this alone cast doubt in the owners' minds. to be honest, sentiments aside, if it was not KD, would it be a more straightforward conclusion? then perhaps if next season the owners are ready to splash another 100m, the new manager should just say hey, just give me 20 and let me keep my job for 3 seasons...I have no problems with him getting sacked. While I was willing to give him one more season (well, come on, we reached 2 finals so we can play when we want), i'll support the new manager and hope he does better. I'm not sure if being sentimental and maintaining the Liverpool way will win us anything in short term but I guess it's a price we may have to pay for instant success but I quite like how the FC Barcelona club is run. Philosophy, Barca way whatver you want to call it, from top to bottom, manager to players, first team to under 8 and it has reap rewards and will continue, IMO. And it took 20 years or so to build. |

QUOTE(solstice818 @ May 23 2012, 11:27 AM) I think it's best if you guys stop splitting into this pro Kenny, anti kenny group. He is sacked. All done and dusted. Please stop name calling, sarcasm that might lead to "cyber war" in this thread. some people are delusional. to them those who support the sacking are Kenny haters. love the club more than the man. sometimes choices have to be made |

its not my intention to offend anyone but imagine the owners announce KD's replacement right after the sacking, wouldnt it will show disrespect to the man? it would have made matters worse if the owners been asking around while the manager's still doing his job? well this is just what i felt

QUOTE(ALeUNe @ May 23 2012, 12:27 PM) Frank Lampard was one of the best player & top scorer of Chelsea in 2011/12 season. rafa himself played a big part in losing alonso, while any manager would have frozen berba for the kind of form he was in?AVB kept him on the bench. Rafa never had luxurious options of players. Can't comment on that. The closest one could be Ferguson. He froze Berbatov. |

QUOTE(nando @ May 23 2012, 01:16 PM) I think not too many football managers are comfortable with the concept of lining up for an interview, alongside 5-6 candidates.. i would think that would be their target, if not KD wont be sacked so hastilyor either that, taking over Kenny's place is tough enough, especially if you're expected to do bring us to the promise land of CL football in ONE season... |

QUOTE(Cloud0890 @ May 23 2012, 03:01 PM) True that, the manager must be able to co-exist with the DoF and that is why some younger names like AVB and Martinez are emerging as favourites instead of the likes of Rafa or Capello. These big name experienced managers prefer total control over footballing matters. i dont see any manager young or old would like to tolerate being told whom to sign and whom to play, aint it?Benítez fell out with Jesús García Pitarch, the club's director of football, over control of new signings and the club's failure to reinforce the squad with the players he wanted. He famously said "I was hoping for a sofa [a defender] and they've brought me a lamp [Fabián Canobbio]" in reference to the positions he wanted to be strengthened. And we all know why Capello left the England post, the FA undermining his position over the John Terry captaincy case. |

QUOTE(Duke Red @ May 24 2012, 11:03 AM) Whoever they appoint, I just hope it happens soon so the new gaffer will be given more time to prepare for the new season. Not a bad idea making a couple of signings before Euro to avoid inflated prices either, plus a player's form in a major tournament can be deceiving. Milan Baros for example was the top marksman at Euro 2004 which masked the fact that he only scored 19 goals in 68 appearances for us. Salvatore Schillaci, Davor Suker, Stephan Guivarch, Mateja Kezman, Oleg Salenko, the list goes on. perhaps someone is advising the owners and 'assuming' the DOf role without really officially appointed. could be close friends with henry and coIt seems like we're closer to signing a manager than we are a Director of Football (or Sports). Interesting. So whose decision is it to sign Martinez and why him? I must admit I do have my doubts but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm just wondering which footballing man made this decision? I would have thought that the Director of Football should be the man to interview potential managers. If it is Martinez, he'll have a lot to do to win the fans over. After being linked to big names like Ancelotti, Capello, Guardiola amongst others, hearing that Martinez is favourite must be somewhat of a downer for fans. However, we need to look beyond the name in this case I feel. Martinez is a young bloke and is still in the midst of carving out his career and Liverpool may just be the club which elevates his status amongst the coaching fraternity. As long as he says the right things in the media, doesn't take it up the arse from Fergie or any of his minions, respects the club and it's fans, I'll be behind him. I just hope no one turns on him if we drop points early in the season. We've become quite a fickle bunch I'm afraid. |

QUOTE Guardiola open to job offers May 25, 2012 By ESPN staff Outgoing Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola has given Liverpool and Chelsea hope by confirming he is open to approaches this summer. Pep Guardiola GettyImagesPep Guardiola Guardiola will step down as Barcelona chief at the end of the season, and it was expected he would stay out of the game for at least a season in order to rest. However, the Spanish boss, a reported target for the Anfield and Stamford Bridge clubs, has revealed he would be willing to return to football sooner than had been anticipated. "For the next month I have to charge my batteries," he said. "I will rest and I will wait. I will be ready, if one club wants me, if they seduce me, I will train again." Guardiola won three successive La Liga titles at Camp Nou, lifting the Champions League trophy in 2009 and 2011, as well as subsequently winning the FIFA Club World Cup on two occasions. He revealed last month that he was to leave Barcelona, citing the stress-inducing pressures of the top job at one of the world's leading clubs. Assistant Tito Vilanova will take over from him next season. Champions League winners Chelsea are expected to have a better chance than Liverpool of enticing Guardiola, with owner Roman Abramovich reportedly an admirer. The Reds, who are in talks with Wigan manager Roberto Martinez, are likely to be keeping a keen eye on the situation, however. sauce good news or false hope? |

there we go again, ALWAYS looking for a bargain...
didnt the owners said they want the best of the best? i am sure they will be assessing the candidates based on CV and not reputation if they feel Pep's the best, then hire him. sacrifices are necessary sometimes, and you get what you pay for. Martinez is unproven, will the owners take another risk? Added on May 25, 2012, 4:24 pmand we should buy this guy This post has been edited by Petre: May 25 2012, 04:24 PM |
