Yes, better to ask and clarify instead of just assuming and getting it all wrong.

Hi, anyone here know what the meaning of "Can demonstrate sound work ethics"? Came across with a job that requires to do so but i dont know what does it mean. I do some research on google but didnt get the right answer to it.

Anyone can help?

P/s:sorry for not open a specific thread because i dont think it is necessary

Work ethics are core:

1) Working hard regardless whether boss is watching you or near you
2) Ensuring you make use of company time productively (e.g. 9-5 no facebook no social media, working hard and focusing on work)
3) To be able to report an infringement when required (whether it is a compliance matter or a security matter or a health and safety issue)
4) Follow the dress code required of you at the firm
5) Following health and safety rules
6) No taking of bribes or any favours which isn't compliant with company rules, e.g. some companies only accept gifts of RM25 and below (depending on the company)
7) If you work in a financial institution that means reporting suspicious transactions especially those related to money laundering

Can i ask a question?

Is it compulsory to certify the photostat copies of the documents before interview?
(if I'm going to private company)
*
If you bring your original documents with you they will certify the copies for you.

Updated the first post with a little bit more information. Will take the time to read through some of the posts here to update it and let me know if you want more information such as using the STAR format to answer interviews.

Added more video interview links as well, good case studies can be found on YouTube which shows how certain companies would conduct their interviews and some of them openly share how their interview process would be like.

most probably interested in other offers and don't want waste time and energy in something they not interested in

That is fine, but not informing HR or the recruiter who arranged the interview, that is rather unprofessional.

Wann ask...

When applying or interviewing for a job, why the employer asks:
1. Have I worked as a government official previously?
2. Have I worked for employer auditor before?
3. Did I work as a contract staff with them before?
4. Did I work as a direct or an indirect contractor with them before?
5. Did I work for them before?

What is the purpose?
*
1. Usually there is a certain conflict of interest or risk that needs to be mitigated, for example, the firm might have a contract with certain government agencies and as part of the contract it doesn't allow the company to poach government staff. Not 100% sure but there have been cases like this before.
2. I have never experienced this question
3, 4 and 5 - Mostly about the history with the firm as certain firms have rehiring policies and certain clauses needed to be filled especially if prior experience with it.

Also, you should ask the employer what is this information for as well during the interview especially if you have answered no to all of the 5 above.

Saw these on LinkedIn and this is really important as well. Out of the many people I have interviewed, only very very few prepare questions to ask. Whether it may be about the role or the culture, but please, be prepared with questions.

Some says; when the interview taking longer than expected, talked more about our personal(goals), talked about pay & availability, it could be a signs that we passed with flying colors.

Is it true?

What if at the same time, they didn't share much information about the role & company and seems uncomfortable when I asked about skills they required and the ad hoc/additional tasks.

Can someone here share your thoughts? Thank you so much đź’•

Nothing is certain until you receive the call to say that you have been hired, honestly, the interviewer might have revealed all of that only to suddenly get another candidate that they prefer instead. So don't put your hopes up high based on just that.

If they don't share much information about the role and company, then that really raise some red flags. Be cautious about it because those are the bare minimum the interviewer needs to know unless you are interviewing for a consulting firm and work is usually based on client and availability, which makes it understandable.

Yeah, nothing is certain even you are selected and sign offer letter soon but cancel due to freeze hiring. Even signed offer also can reject you.
*
If it is signed and they reject you, you have a clause to bring them to court as the offer letter is a contract and if they break it, you can bring it up to the courts for breach of contract.

Hey guysss,

I have a question. How long does it takes for banks to do background checking? When banks do background checking and I already signed statutory declaration does it mean that I already got the job offer ? Thanks guys.
*
Depending on your situation (e.g. fresh grad vs long time worker or have had multiple holdings or seats as directors), the background check can take from 3 days to 3 weeks.

As mentioned above, the statutory document means that you are stating that what you have submitted is the truth. There was once where I made a typo in the year of my previous employment history in the resume but it didn't match with the statutory document. The bank called back to verify it and I had to make sure and provide the proof of employment during that time.

You only get the job offer when you literally have the job offer in hand (physical document or soft copy), which is the employment contract.

Came across some pretty useful advice on Quora:

- Make sure you can back up any claims you made in your CV because you will be asked questions about it. Consider how you can demonstrate the claim not just repeat the claim, e.g. “I pay attention to detail” means nothing (especially if there is a spelling or grammatical mistake in your CV!). Tell them how you have used this skill and especially how that skill will help the company.

- Take time to consider the question they ask - a fast response can sound formulaic and insincere. To slow and it sounds like you are making it up on the spot.

Answer the question they ask, not the question you wanted them to ask!

*
Good one there, I think what needs to be called out especially after a number of resume reviews that I have done, is to ensure that whatever included in the CV is to ensure that it can be understood by folks who might not be familiar with acronyms or terms too specific to an industry. Another is to list out your achievements and to have it set into context of things.

Going to the example above "I pay attention to detail", it needs to be given a context

For example, if you are a project manager, if you pay attention to detail, that is your role and job. But you need to showcase what was done to showcase a skill such as paying attention to detail. It could be elaborated such as paying attention to team spend and expenditure to ensure budget is met and is on target. Or managing timelines and paying attention to the scope, issues and risk to manage the overall timeline.

I am fresh graduate. I only did my internship and they said internship does not count as employment. So you have to go stamp again and they have to process again for a week? then did you get the offer in the end?
*
Yes, when I made the mistake, I went back to change the necessary documents, SD, commissioner of oaths and then resubmit and the process started again. It was quicker the other way around as they had already initiated the other checks (e.g. credit, bankruptcy, legal litigations, police, etc..)

About 3 times as I have gone through 3 different companies which requires a background check (2 financial services and 1 tech). Fastest taking 2 weeks, longest taking 4 weeks. All 3 resulted with a job offer with the exception of one where the job offer was given first prior to the background check.

It is so troublesome have to resubmit everything and wait for them to process again. Last Friday I just submitted my documents and I received their call in this morning so the management approve my background check. Going for medical check up next day! rclxm9.gif
