QUOTE(Tenchu @ Sep 18 2006, 10:55 AM) It is known that it is our disadvantages if we state our expected salary. However, the interviewers these days, are also smart enough to "throw the ball" back to us. Infact they are insisting you to tell them ur expected salary. How to avoid been giving out my expected salary in such case? Nowadays companies are getting pretty strict in terms of salary negotiation. If you are coming in from another company, there are a lot of instances where they will ask you to bring a copy of your latest pay slip. I guess you are right to say that the salary negotiation playing field has dwindled but it is a must from a company's point of view of ever increasing labour cost.

QUOTE(goliath @ Nov 29 2006, 05:18 PM) Go ahead. Give them unless you have bad reputation in your previous company. Yup I totally agree with Goliath, hence it is important not to burn bridges with your previous company.

QUOTE(babymiki @ Dec 5 2006, 10:14 AM) So i should tell the interviewer NO even if i did apply for another job of the same industry? There can be two different scenarios when they ask you that question: 1) The company wants to know if their competitor is eyeing you 2) You may have other prospects outside My friend went for interview with both KPMG and EY. Told both of them that he had interviews with their competitor and ended both offering him.

QUOTE(ronaldoo @ Dec 8 2006, 12:20 AM) Second interview. Bring along all certs. What do you think ? Chances of getting the job higher ? ? Basically usually most 1st interviews, they would ask me to bring my original copies of my certificates so that they can verify the photocopy versions I am giving to them. Usually bringing certificates will not guarantee your success but having a 2nd interview is already a good sign. For those of you going for your first interview, do read the article on what to bring or not. Saves the HR person a lot of hassle and trying to get all your relevant documents. Most of the time, your resume and results will be passed to the interviewer who will then base their interview questions on what they can see in your resume.

Don't forget to include in your past working experiences as well even though it was an internship or a part time job.

QUOTE(GrooveCoverage @ Dec 17 2006, 05:30 PM) According to the information I got from this thread, so it is not suitable for anyone (males) to wear a suit to attend an interview, even if you are applying for a position such as a business professional (eg. investment banker)? Basically the best way you can find out is to ask the HR person who contacted you. Even certain business professionals do not wear suits to work or managers also do not wear suits to work. You might be a little overdress. Again, this rule is not a hard rule, depends on the situation. Malaysia is relatively hot so wearing a suit is not our culture here.

QUOTE(goliath @ Jan 17 2007, 12:00 PM) There are few interviews that I attended which require me to sit for an exam. They didn't reveal the score to me during the interview because I guess they don't have the time to mark it. There's one interview I attended which asked questions on the spot. Not like those subjective questions whereby you write your answers on a piece of paper. That's scary and I don't have to take the initiative to know how I performed because I myself know how bad I did it It depends on the test itself, if it was an IQ test (not the calculating types), there may be different set of answers to show how your character is. This also applies for aptitude tests. Because of these type of tests, the employer may not reveal your score to you.

QUOTE(spanker @ Feb 3 2007, 01:17 AM) Don't be too demotivated by the test. I flunked 2 technical tests in the past and I still got the jobs. LOL I remembered I totally failed this test, I applied for an engineering position and they gave me a test to write out coding. I was like Of course I didn't get the job but that God because I got a better job now

QUOTE(patricktoh @ Mar 1 2007, 06:06 PM) It would be a face to face interview at their office. Probably at most 2 to 3 interviewers. I have visited their website and gathered some career related info. Beside that ran thru the company core values. All the best mate! Be yourself, don't be too arrogant but be confident with what you say. Don't try to lie your way through anything and if you are unsure about the question you can ask them to repeat it. Be there early as well so you can scout out the place. Always keep an eye for detail so you might be able to use it as a conversation piece.

QUOTE(chester23 @ Mar 5 2007, 08:14 PM) I always bring my certificates during interview. Most of the time, the interviewers never looked at it. So, should I ask them to take a look at it or what? Some may ask you for your certificates and some will require you to have a copy of your certificates. It never hurts to prepare several copies of your certificates and always bring your original certificates for verification. Added on March 8, 2007, 11:55 amQUOTE(akachester @ Mar 5 2007, 09:21 PM) I need some help here. I had just gone through the first post in this thread and it is very helpful in getting me prepared previously for my first interview.I am very glad that i done the preparation stated. However, i am asked for a 2nd interview this time around and would like to know, what is normally asked and done in 2nd interview? I applied for the post of programmer in the 1st interview and all that was done there was a long conversation about my skills, education background and some related stuff. No programming skills needed.Would the 2nd interview be testing this skills as in test?Thanks... There is a high chance that they might test you on your technical skills the next interview. You could always call them and ask them if there is anything you may need to prepare. QUOTE(Love^GM @ Mar 12 2007, 10:04 PM) Guys... Please let me know the best answer for below question when interview: 1. What makes you intend to work in our company? 2. What so special of you that make us want to employ you? 3. Why are you so interest in this carrier? 4. How you show your leadership in work? 5. What contribution you can give to our company? I guess the first thing you should work on is your spelling and grammar right? To be frank, if you can't even communicate your message or sell yourself well, its going to be a huge uphill task for you mate.

Yeah that is definitely much better, it is better for you to be corrected rather than getting all the answers on a silver platter....

QUOTE(maskot @ May 17 2007, 12:36 AM) got a problem.. im taking degree in IT .. but currently looking 4 job which is not towards IT like customer service and stuff the problem is.. during the interview when the person ask "y u want to do something different fro what u have studied?" or sumting like that..what should be the appropriate asnwer?? besides want to gain knowledge..what else... Well there can be several reasons why you want to branch out from something you have studied. To be frank, this question is totally based on your own thinking, how can you expect us to tell you why you want to branch out of your own line. If you are hoping that we can give you good answers for a question like that, wouldn't that mean that you have no idea yourself as to why you want to move out of the IT line?

I've gone through a second interview at a bank but that was for a position of management trainee. The 2nd interview was held right after the 1st interview and it was basically asking lots of questions on in a situation what would you do, or in a tight deadline what would you have done, etc..etc...
Final interview was a team assessment based type of activity where you work individually and as a team as well.

QUOTE(goliath @ Jun 18 2007, 09:52 AM) Do you guys fold up your sleeves during interview, assuming that you are wearing long sleeve shirt? Is it alright for me to do that? I try not to fold my sleeves up if ever I am in an interview unless they ask you to perform some sort of activity or work which requires you to move your hands about so folding up your sleeve might improve your productivity. When folding your sleeve, make sure that you fold it nicely. Some people might disapprove of it but some might not. QUOTE(qintian @ Jun 20 2007, 10:31 AM) juz wanna ask ...(assume got second interview) if after the interview can i call back to the compny to ask whether they have already inform others candidate to go for the second interview.. or they hv alraedy hire other person in that job???? if can.. who should i contact with? the person who call me up for interview? or interviewer?? (assume that was a big company and your call can only pick up by receiption there) You can call back, just call the HR department and inquire about your interview status. Try not to call your interviewer as your interviewer might not be the right person or may not have enough details.
