i really dono how this voice unlocking work myself.
do u have to press something before saying "hi, galaxy". If u need to then unlocking feature is just a little bit of a gimmick, coz u need to finger your phone anyway.
the phone has been out in uk for like 3 days already, and nobody has paid any freaking attention to detail when uploading those youtube videos.
attention to detail please somebody. don't give freaking summary overview shitty review. i have already viewed a dozen of those.

QUOTE(farscope @ May 10 2012, 06:50 PM) yes, u need to wake up yr sound in order for it to detect your voice. well.. i think the reasoning behind this is because you don't it to randomly wake when u don't need it. as u say u need to finger the phone anyway, that's partly correct, as u wake the phone, u can straight activate the S-voice to do anything u want it to do. will be useful when u are not able to look at the screen to choose which app u want. like when u drive, u just wake the phone and then continue to drive and use yr voice to command it. the S3 has very thin bezel ady, kinda near to edge to edge. i think one problem will arise from edge to edge is that you wont have enough space to grip yr phone and might end up accidentally touch the screen with the side of yr finger. can i just clarify: so after i finger the home button with one single press, i can terus give a command like "i wanna take a picture", without saying "hi, galaxy" first? meaning waking up the phone by one press of the home button automatically put you into "S Voice" mode where he will listen to you command? like that? Thanks.

QUOTE(farscope @ May 11 2012, 08:22 AM) OLED is known for it's shorter life-span. it takes around 10,000+ hours to reach 50% original brightness when compared to conventional LCD which has about 20,000-30,000+ hours to reach 50% original brightness. but Samsung's SAMOLED has achieve longer life span with their technology to come close to LCD. 10,000+ hours equates to around 5yrs of usage with 8 hours daily screen on time. what u mean? after 10k hours OLED will produce display of 50% of the original brightness. u mean the longer i use my OLED display the dimmer it gets? u telling me the quality of OLED display diminishes over time? incredible.

QUOTE(farscope @ May 11 2012, 10:51 AM) yes.. like wat i posted previously about it's advantage over other smartphones that is has more sensors. Sensors Accelerometer, gyro, RGB sensor, proximity, compass, barometer http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9300_galaxy_s_iii-4238.phpbut gsmarena left out the pressure sensor and some details. which can be found here. Sensors: Accelerometer: STMicroelectronics - LSM330DLC 3-axis Accelerometer Magnetic Field sensor: Asahi Kasei Microdevices - AK8975C 3-axis Magnetic field sensor Orientation + Gravity + Linear acceleration + Rotation STMicroelectronics - iNemoEngine Light & Proximity sensor: Capella - CM36651 Gyroscope STMicroelectronics - LSM330DLC Gyroscope sensor Pressure: STMicroelectronics - LPS331AP Pressure Sensor https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uHMkJwX...pcv8/edit?pli=1thank u very much farscope hmm, so what is unique here is the pressure sensor which is the barometer. hmmm nice, so technically the phone can tell u if its gonna rain soon. nice... magnetic sensor is not new right? is basically the compass functionality right? thanks again.

QUOTE(Matrix @ May 12 2012, 10:34 AM) Huh??? What are you talking?? Samsung produces tons of model even when they sell well... Need i remind? SGS, SGW, SGY, SGS Plus, SGS SL etc.... if samsung just focus on premium models (like iphone), do u think samsung will sell well? i dono if there is a stats on iphone vs. samsung highend phone market share. but i'm sure the winner goes to iphone. samsung need to focus on med and low end market too coz iphone is not!!! btw, i'm not complaining coz i have more choices of phones. i really wish iphone has a bigger screen model.

i dono what the big fuss about pentile vs the others. maybe some are really fussy, but with me bare eyes i can't notice the pentile formation. to me the quality looks great. of course if u compare side by side u might notice some subtle differences. but why does it matter? really to the layman like me why does it matter?
(btw, i am trying to justify whether i'll choose other phones over the sgs3 because of screen)

i think the winner will be the one that perfects the siri interface. seriously. the next revolution after multitouch must be voice. that's how we have always been communicating before any of this. if iphone 5 just focus on one thing - to make siri perfect, i would be sold at hello.

QUOTE(ZeneticX @ May 13 2012, 10:53 PM) honestly how many people out there use voice control? as in normal usage, like on the streets. IMO it looks pretty dumb for me. haven't spot any1 doing that yet if lets say you're driving then its fine its dumb because tak biasa. like when u have your new s3 later, surely u feel malu tu showoff at first. but once u use to it its not so malu. same with voice. its dumb to be talking to your phone coz normally voice is only for humans. but once society accepts u talking to your phone, then peduli apa. voice is the next revolution. remember u heard it from me first.

QUOTE(river.sand @ May 14 2012, 09:45 AM) Found this piece of text on the Web... Apple would have you believe that Siri is the be-all, end-all personal assistant. But in my testing Galaxy Nexus speech and search capabilities consistently outperform iPhone 4S. Siri's presentation is better, Google gets the job done.
Simple example: One of my favorite local restaurants is Bahn Thai. When listening to my request for the phone number, iPhone 4S and Galaxy Nexus equally understand, one doesn't deliver. I've tried different variations using Siri: "Phone number for Bahn Thai"; "Phone number for Bahn Thai, University Heights"; "Bahn Thai, University Heights"; Thai restaurants, University Heights"; among others. The latter used to work, showing two Thai eateries nearby. Now all answers lead to a list of Thai restaurants in San Diego, and none the one I want. By comparison, simply asking Galaxy Nexus for "Bahn Thai, University Heights" brings up Google search page with Yelp review and phone number top result. http://betanews.com/2012/05/11/you-can-hav...e-galaxy-nexus/thanks for sharing. that is what i want from my phone. that he understand me like how my secretary would understand me. when i say "call mama", the phone will call my mum. not some "mamasan". when i say "i'm tired i will rest till 4.30pm", the phone should suggest me whether i want to silence it, and whether i want a wake up call. design for humans is a good moto, but the revolution starts only when they take it to the next level.

i have free apps with ads, about 2 or 3 of them emails, facebook etc are never an issue even go high refresh intervals coz its just text.
but yes just monitor the few days u start using. coz there may be just one big thing you overlook that may make the utilzation jump high. for example sometimes u have pics and videos on your phone (maybe around 2-3 Gb is quite normal), then without knowing the setup, android just syncs all that to picasa or dropbox or whatever. so it usually happen to the new and ignorant users.

QUOTE(Nickysnipe @ May 14 2012, 12:19 PM) Then can I switch off the auto-sync to picasa or whatever web-cloud service? yes, just go to the setup, under accounts and sync -> manage accounts, all the syncs setup are in on 1 place. so u just need to toggle on/off.

Wanna know how their cellular data speed perform i'm using celcom. but u see it depends on location. so is hard to make a concrete review unless u put a finger on the location. btw, in kuching and kl its ok. i get 1.4 mbs average. but 2mbs above is frequent too.

QUOTE(Nickysnipe @ May 14 2012, 01:59 PM) Hmm.. I just need it to Facebook twitter and whatsapp only.. Normal surfing as well.. Should be fast enough right? yes of course. now the data plans for 3g doesn't cap speed, it caps the volume quota only. so is even fast enough to do skype teleconferencing (which i do very often).

QUOTE(eric84cool @ May 14 2012, 02:05 PM) The S3 is simply a good phone at the moment, will look forward for next gen Iphone for comparison to purchase....my current iphone 3Gs is 2 years old ++ the iphone 5 i don't doubt it will be a beast. it must. but please make the screen a bit bigger. if u look at the age group iphone's are used by older adults. older adults need bigger screens. it is still my issue. btw. i phone 5 only out during fall. u can wait that long? QUOTE(KuLi @ May 14 2012, 03:10 PM) if screen is too big, more than 4" then single handed operation becomes quite cumbersome. if a bigger screen is required, prefer to use tablet. make it 4" then. i'm pretty comfortable with 4". Added on May 14, 2012, 3:28 pmQUOTE(ZeneticX @ May 14 2012, 03:13 PM) but how long it take for society to accept this transition? 5 years? 10 years? AFAIK many people who buy smart phone nowadays din even fully utilize its usage and i dun agree with u about the malu to show off part, i use my new phone on the streets and infront my friends like a boss different case for voice control..... ok, wrong example maybe. they don't utilize coz it still in its infancy (read: sucks). imagine if its reliable will u use it? in case u didn't notice, voice is fast. faster then the speed of touch. if u don't think it is, it is because at the moment voice is very cumbersome to use.
