Hi guys, is there any difference between individual washing machine and individual dryer and a combination of both 2 in 1 machine? My friend says that better to get them both individually. Is it better?

My limited experience with combined washer/dryer is that the dryer portion tends to take longer to dry, plus many combination washer/dryer tend to use condenser dryer that's less energy efficient than the vented standalone dryers.

In terms of space, even in my old small apartment I can stack the dryer above my front loading washer so there's not much gained in space savings.

When you have more than 1 load of laundry to do, you can run the washer and dryer separately, saving some time. You can't do this with a combo appliance. The washer/dryer combo is typically more complicated and online ratings tend to show lower reliability compared to standalone appliances.

I've had separate washers and dryers for more than 15 years and recommend buying separate appliances.

The bolded part is totally wrong. Condenser dryer is much more energy efficient than vented dryer. But of course if you have 7kg dryer trying to dry 10kg load, it wouldn't be as efficient as properly sized standalone dryers.

In terms of energy efficiency of standalone dryer, Heat Pump>Condenser>Vented.

You're absolutely right, my mistake.

Also agree on dryer maintenance, cleaning the lint filter is very important for dryer efficiency plus there's a slight chance of fire as the lint is dry and there will be static.

However I disagree about dryer reliability, my current Bosch dryer has had zero problems in the past 8 years. Even my previous Electrolux dryer was trouble free for about 7+ years. Both my current Samsung and my previous Zanussi front load washers had issues.

If you have a choice calvin I still recommend separate washer and dryer. Mount the dryer above your washer to save space.

thanks for your feedback.. which brand would you suggest to get for a standalone dryer ? unsure.gif within this thread itself there seems to be a lot of bad experiences with Electrolux  sweat.gif

In the past 18 years or so I think my first one was Zanussi, then an Electrolux and now a Bosch. Don't know what to recommend, as mentioned, my cheap Bosch vented dryer is 8 years old and is still going strong although I only use it frequently during rainy weather like the past month or so.

My next dryer will likely be a heat pump dryer, much more energy efficient. If you live in an apartment, having a heat pump dryer will avoid pumping warm, moist air into your apartment. Unfortunately they're more complex and far more expensive.
