Dropped by SierraGlow today to do some maintenance works .. saw a Preve again.
After the owner left, I took a peek and went to sit into the interior. I must say.. for 73000 they're paying - it's indeed a big price to pay.
To start off, the plastic finishing at the hand-brake lever were totally out of place and there was no way to slot it back in. to put it simply, it was really poor workmanship and factory cutting. The car is new, in fact it was a WWU plate (less than 2 weeks old) - not sure if the owner is heading back to Proton SC to get it solved, but I doubt he'll get anything productive in return. After all, people always say "it's a proton, what were you expecting?" Yes, I am expecting much from a RM73000 proton thank you very much.
Went ahead to the HU, did I mention that the wordings seems like they're just lightly printed onto the square and dull-looking piece of block? Yes they're fancy, we have like a total of 12 buttons left and right, but I highly doubt I'll be using even half of them to play my USB songs nor listening to radio. To add on to the exclusiveness, we have the "Front Passenger Airbag On/Off" button. Okay this is an interested debate - the function could be turned off so we could have children/toddlers sitting in front. Okay, very thoughtful of them, so now we could predict how bad the crash is that we're ready to sacrifice our lives just for our child to sit in front. That's one button I doubt I'll ever touch. And worse, how if something went bad and the button is actually on the "Off Mode" all along? Go figure.
Another big turn off the leather-strapped steering wheel. Firstly, the leather is cheap. Yes, why Did I say cheap? Because I could already see the leather tearing off (stretched) at the sewing points. To add on, the sewing. Along the stitches, you will notice that the lines totally ran off to one side - or to put it bluntly, crooked. Again, and yes again, I really wasn't expecting to see this on a NEW CAR. Seriously, the leathers and stitches? What's next? These small little finishings are what we're looking for if Proton were to "change the view" of the public. Not putting a display unit of rewinding door window at their event and saying "Hey look, you can trust us now".
Judging from the looks of that guy, I am more than sure that he could afford an import car. But why did he get a Preve? Maybe his budget allowed him only up to 75k? Or maybe he has passion in soft turbo-tech engines? We will never know. A case of Brainless Patriotism? Never know. Alas, our National car manufacturer is once again triumphant in getting its citizen to pay for its gimmicks, and I must stress again, it is a high price to pay.
