Today THQ formally announced Company of Heroes 2 for an early 2013 release on the PC. They've also provided some additional details on the real-time strategy game, which was outed last week by a PC gaming mag.

CoH2 will return players to World War II. However, this game focused on the Eastern Front rather than the Western. Players take on the role of the Red Army and must stop Nazis from taking Moscow.

"Company of Heroes 2 is a true successor, introducing a new front, new protagonists and new technology while retaining the unique mix of strategic gameplay and competitive multiplayer that made the original Company of Heroes such a success," said Relic Entertainment producer Greg Wilson.

The new tech Wilson is referring to is Relic's proprietary Essence 3.0 Engine. The studio used version 1.0 for the first Company of Heroes. Essence 2.0 was utilized for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II and its expansions. Relic promises destructible environments as well as enhanced fidelity for the game's graphics. The first screenshot, below, should give you a taste of the game's tech capabilities.

I thought of question no 2 too. Why all games are based on WW2 and Cold war and not about any other war? Afghan? Iraq? Desert Storm?

COH 2 and Rome 2 are probably my most anticipating games in 2013, heard that EA is going to release C&C: generals 2 but prolly will pirate that one for what they did to westwood lol.

Anyways, will definitely buy this...I just hope COH 2 will live up to their hype and provide the same excitement as to what COH did.

If you do not like a particular developer's game, then dont play their game. Just keep it simple. Not wanting to buy their game, but still want to pirate their game will only tell EA that PC gamers are a bunch of pirates. At the end, its all the PC gamers getting screwed over by EA or other developers taking EA's words into account.

It is nice that EA is putting some attention on PC, so please show them some appreciation by not pirating their game, if you are not buying it. Personally, i am not really a fan of them after all the crap they make recently.

this will need a better GC for me. the COH already taken my toll n playing at max only gave me 10+ fps

hi new guy, my bro's a big fan of the CoH franchise and he's thinking of buying a retail copy. just a quick question, is the local CoH community still active? dont want my bro's money go to a waste finding out there's no one to play with within the country.

There's still an ok amount of automataches going on in CoH. There's not much in terms of lag commands as well if you're worried about that. Other than that, feel free to ask him to add me up. Always happy to play with and against others.

If you meant the expansions, then it's fine. I recommend getting the full bundle if your brother enjoys single player campaigns. Only get Tales of Valor if your brother plans to just play multiplayer as it unlocks all the factions available.

i google-d up some bundles and found the CoH Anthology with a pricetag of RM80. if my brother bought the retail does he need to activate the game through steam?

It won't be activated through steam. Instead, it'll use the relic account. To obtain it from steam, you'll have to buy it there. Usually, there are cheap deals that give 75% off for CoH on steam.

there's only the relic servers. If your brother doesn't mind waiting for the steam sales (usually around thanksgiving and the upcoming summer sales), then I'd say go for steam. the deals usually means that once converted actually cost less than RM80. (taking into account the exchange rate of 1USD = RM3)

Or if he wants to join up with the online community and start playing, then you can buy him the retail version. All he needs to do is to pretty much add the game onto his steam game list instead.

Company of Heroes 2 release date
Hi everyone,

Following information from SEGA, we now have a revised release date for Company of Heroes 2.  The new release date is 25th June 2013 (note: the press release only specifically states this date for North America and Europe, so dates for other regions may vary, but we can't say for sure at the moment).

Developer Relic will use this time to ensure Company of Heroes 2 will meet the high standard set by Company of Heroes.  While June might seem a long way off, producer Greg Wilson said, "the wait won't be as long as players will soon be able to help us test and balance multiplayer in the upcoming Closed Beta. Details will follow shortly."

I really hope CoH2 isnt destroyed by microtrasactions or tonnes of game changing DLC to imbalance the game. CoH1 had a small, but very interesting competitive scene, and i hope it will still be there.

How is Multiplayer ?

I quit playing COH ever since opposing front was release with the super overpowered British commandos lol.
Looking at the current state, doesnt look promising at all. Feels like THQ is trying to boost balance sheet value than to release a true replacement for COH 1.

for me still COH 1 better campaign and mp.....COH 2 just fail...

I dont know why you keep comparing a 5 years+ old game with 1 expansions and countless patches to a brand new game that is just out recently.

To be honest, at least CoH2 didnt come out with some incredibly stupid balance issues like how almost all previous Relic games had. That Necron Death March and IG Spam still scares me till this day. Or Stug spam in CoH1 and Brit artillery spam in OF. Brits Kangaroo Super Convertible Tanks too. On top that CoH2 did not have the severe performance issue with most PC like COH1 or DoW2.

On top of that, it is a RTS game campaign, what else do you want it to change? It is always either build a force and steamroll the enemy, defend till the end of days, or those missions with a handful of units. Even SC2's fairly impressive campaign still feel more of the same at times. While till now, I have not played a RTS with an impressive story because RTS is just a horrible genre to tell a story.

Tiger/IS are only available for dlc commander. Although there another lvl 45 unlocked commander
