Comrades, Company of Heroes 2 will make for glorious cover on upcoming issue of PC Gamer. The reveal first leaked on NeoGAF, alongside word that the RTS will engage operations in 2013.
It will focus on the Eastern Front of World War 2, with keyboard and mouse commanders controlling the Russians. Snow will feature prominently, affecting movement and forming cover.
Game Informer got in touch with publisher THQ, which said it would share more details soon. You know, probably after the cover makes it to stands.
sigh...i love COH to death. But at this point with so many military games we got n a new C&C next year, i was hoping Relic were doing Homeworld 3 instead.
I can't wait for it. Sadly my ladder games in multiplayer were usually rolled by high rankers posing as low ranks(smurfs). But sometimes, I turn the tide on them unexpectedly and they accuse me of smurfing.
For Stalingrad (Bound to be there). There will be heavy cover and chokes everywhere with MG....reminds me of the liberation of Caen in COH:OF...that was hell to say the least on Hard.
Today THQ formally announced Company of Heroes 2 for an early 2013 release on the PC. They've also provided some additional details on the real-time strategy game, which was outed last week by a PC gaming mag.
CoH2 will return players to World War II. However, this game focused on the Eastern Front rather than the Western. Players take on the role of the Red Army and must stop Nazis from taking Moscow.
"Company of Heroes 2 is a true successor, introducing a new front, new protagonists and new technology while retaining the unique mix of strategic gameplay and competitive multiplayer that made the original Company of Heroes such a success," said Relic Entertainment producer Greg Wilson.
The new tech Wilson is referring to is Relic's proprietary Essence 3.0 Engine. The studio used version 1.0 for the first Company of Heroes. Essence 2.0 was utilized for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II and its expansions. Relic promises destructible environments as well as enhanced fidelity for the game's graphics. The first screenshot, below, should give you a taste of the game's tech capabilities.
Awesome new game engine that promises destructible environments and amazing graphics! And... it's WWII baby! Oh, how we have missed you.
