Long rumored and much anticipated, The Elder Scrolls Online is finally being unveiled in the June issue of Game Informer. In this month's cover story we journey across the entire land of Tamriel, from Elsweyr to Skyrim and everywhere in between.

Developed by the team at Zenimax Online Studios, The Elder Scrolls Online merges the unmatched exploration of rich worlds that the franchise is known for with the scale and social aspects of a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Players will discover an entirely new chapter of Elder Scrolls history in this ambitious world, set a millennium before the events of Skyrim as the daedric prince Molag Bal tries to pull all of Tamriel into his demonic realm.

"It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years," said game director and MMO veteran Matt Firor, whose previous work includes Mythic's well-received Dark Age of Camelot. "The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise."

An in-depth look at everything from solo questing to public dungeons awaits in our enormous June cover story – as well as a peek at the player-driven PvP conflict that pits the three player factions against each other in open-world warfare over the province of Cyrodiil and the Emperor's throne itself.

Come back tomorrow morning for a brief teaser trailer from Zenimax Online and Bethesda Softworks, and later on in the afternoon for the first screenshot of the game. Over the course of the month, be sure to visit our Elder Scrolls Online hub, which will feature new exclusive content multiple times each week. You'll meet the three player factions, see video interviews with the creative leads, and much more.

The Elder Scrolls Online is scheduled to come out in 2013 for both PC and Macintosh.

"Like most other MMOs the game will use a hotbar to activate skills and combat will not be in real-time, due to concerns over latency. There be plenty of opportunities for PvP (player vs. player) combat, with faction battles featuring up to 200 players and siege weapons and trebuchets."

THERE GOES ALL MY INTEREST IN THE GAME!

I thought it would be multiplayer Skyrim with bigger world. But nope, WoW clone. Oh well, interest in MMORPGs rapidly diminishing.

Can't attack/steal from/kill npc indiscriminately makes it less of a Scroll game.

But if they let you do that, then a lot of players will be hunting npc instead of mobs.

That's fun isn't it? Like players who attack civilians/guards will instantly be attackable by everyone even in cities. Unless they get caught or die, they will forever be hunted!

I thought Elder Scrolls Online would literally be Skyrim with multiplayer. Not a WoW clone in the elder scrolls world.

In that case... in reverse, dead named npc stays dead (like all Scroll games), unless essential. Or necromanced. Looking forward to near empty town, I guess. And with all the npc chasing criminals, I doubt we can stop them to take any quest from them (This npc is in combat--- yikes!). Unless... they make it WoW all over... then no thanks. Had too much of that in a lifetime.

But I do want to see NASA's collaboration with Giant's moon program in the mmo.

Bethesda Softworks are today taking beta sign-ups for their upcoming MMO, The Elder Scrolls Online. Those interested in participating must perform a dark and ancient blood pact, binding their soul to the corrupted realm of Oblivion… no, wait, you have to register at ElderScrollsOnline.com. That’s much simpler.

No time frame has been given for the beta period, but successful applicants will be informed of the test schedule at a later date. In the meantime, Bethesda have unleashed an action-packed cinematic trailer, showing off the game’s three factions. And some werewolves.

That’s some mighty impressive CGI, but I can’t imagine you’ll be assaulting a castle like that in the game. To see what ESO actually looks like, take a look at this video. Or, for a rundown of the story behind the game’s three factions, check out this development diary from Bethesda’s Head Mage/Lead Loremaster. Want more? By Talos, you’re insatiable. Luckily, you can read Tom’s impressions here.
