I booked one helang hotel for my coming trip. Then, I heard some people say its old and not that good condition. Some also say ok... Read reviews on trip advisor and all also mix comments.

Haih... So hard to make decision. So, I cancel and look for another...  icon_question.gif

Stayed there back in 2009..

It was so cheap back then with 2 queen size bed...

Overall not bad.. spacious but water in Langkawi that time was a bit dirty or just the hotel?

Not too sure but pretty satisfied..

Just it is boring when you need travel for foods.... and shopping

Just a quick question.. I will be arriving on Wednesday at night... around 10.15pm..

Are those car rental service booths at airport will still be operating???

I will need to rent a car to head to my hotel.

As long as there are flights coming in, there will be a few still lingering around. It will be slightly higher priced though, depending on how many operators are there. Worse comes to worse, take a taxi to your hotel first lorrr. Rent the car the next day!  icon_rolleyes.gif

Thanks for your help.

Hmmm hopefully... then gotta try luck..

Hopefully the taxi charge won't be too high.

Just back from my Langkawi Trip

Arrived on 22nd May 10.30pm .. to 25th May 12pm

Rented Vios at RM300 total..

Basically you'll need a car in order to fully enjoy langkawi

Places to try

Teo Seafood - Good but compare to KL cook for me is very typical Chinese restaurant stuff

Restoran Chark Fing Bak Kut Teh 佬食旺 - Good Bak Kut Teh

Jom Ikan Bakar - A must try Ikan Bakar.... Siakap @ RM30/fish, Sotong Bakar @ RM3/PC, then some mix rice where you can add on. - One of the greats

GM Burger @ Kuah Town - Nice burger, got burger bakar. Price is fair. RM4 Burger Ayam Special, Burger Bakar @ RM7/pcs but added French Fries too.

These locations can be found in FourSquare... If don't have, please help Create 1 and make sure it refreshed to exact locations before you save so people won't be directed to wrong location.

Best if you have a Data Plan and use FourSquare and Waze to find.
Be sure to leave comments and help others... I relied on FourSquare a lot

Last but not least, never eat the Prawn Mee in langkawi.. I tried both 2 shops around Kuah town and trust me, it sucks big time!!! You can try your luck though... I tried mine and it failed twice.

About the car rental service, the price is counted as 3 days or 2 days if I were to book from 11th - 13th July(11th noon arrive,13th noon checkout)?
And any avanza/7-seater car for rent? How much will it be?
*
In the catalog they will put like vios RM230 per day....

But when you go there they will ask you when will you return the car and straightaway quote you a complete price.

I rented from 22nd (10pm) - 25th (12pm) .. for Vios.. price was RM300.. Back in 2009 I was quoted RM230.. But 24th was a Wesak Day so he wouldn't want to reduce anymore...

Hope this helps

just back from Langkawi.\
Stayed at Kuah (actually, at de Baron hotel)

just some tips for cheapest chocolates prices (since I only shop around for chocs)

Ferrero Rocher 30s: Cocovalley. Rm 19.90
Daim 300g: Kala ent. Rm 14
Kinder bueno, pack of 3x42g, rm6.70 per pack/ rm17.90 for 3 packs: cocovalley
Cadbury bar 190-220g: rm7.90- Idaman suri
Ritter sport 100g: rm 3.70 Idaman Suri

Generally i found Idaman Suri is cheap if u want to buy 1 or 2, but if u buy in pack of 3, Haji ismail grop/ cocovalley is cheaper.

Another shop, Wawasan Maju if i'm not mistaken, sell discounted chocs that about to expire in 2-3 months, usually in the form of 'buy 1 free 1'
*
Good tips mate ..

For all also please make sure you check the expiry date before buying... 80% of them are mostly have 3 months left before expiry hence you may want to budget your quantity... smile.gif

Warning to all those planning to buy Liqour in Langkawi.

1) By law is only one liter per person for minimum 48hours stay. Those saying one hand carry one check in, yes it's possible but at your own risk.

I forgot to mention, its for my folks who are going to langkawi.
I'm trying to prepare the car for them, as i won't be going with them to the island.
so has anyone tried the site  http://www.langkawi-online.com/pages/car-rental.php for car rental?

If yes, any feedback?

thanks in advance

Usually people go there only rent car...

Come down from airport you will see a couple of booths in front and then you can see the catalog.
