Guys, info to share!!!

Went to Langkawi on the 23-26 Jan. Stayed a 2-bedroom apartment at Perdana Beach Resort under Leisure Holiday. Only 5 minutes drive to the Airport and this property is next to Langkawi Lagoon Resort and opposite the Kuala Melaka Inn. Overall the the apartment conditions has improved and the facilities (swimming pool) are well maintained..

Rent a Nissan Serena (KV1899D) at the airport for RM120 per day with Zamri of Terbilang Travel & Tours. The same person I been dealing with for the last 3 years..

This trip we did not visit any tourist attraction places cause we been visiting these places for the last 12 years. I was an ex-hotelier in Langkawi from year 1999 till 2001. If you plan to visit the Langkawi Wildlife Park, please purchase your ticket entrance during Matta Fair!!! Heavy discount given during the event… At Langkawi, the entrance ticket is sold at RM15 for adult and RM10 for child..

Back to shopping…

Seafood dried items (ikan bilis, prawn, sotong, ikan masin, etc). Purchase them from the stalls located at Black Sand Beach.. Their price are cheaper than Kuah Town or elsewhere in Langkawi..

Cigarettes by carton, any duty free shop in Langkawi EXCEPT the Airport (the selling price are higher at airport).

Crockeries, Cutleries and Cooking Utensils. Get them at Kuah Town from Haji Ismail Group, Idaman Suri, Wawasan, etc…

Chocolates. Get them at Kuah Town from Haji Ismail Group, Idaman Suri, Wawasan, etc…

PS.. It was disappointing not to be able to snap photos of Sunset at Cenang Beach... Clouds covering the sun!!!

*

They also have a counter at the airport near the luggage collect area at the arrival hall.. The Serena is in great condition.. Plate number KV1899D.. and depends whether you are getting legal or those illegal for renting vehicle. haha.
*
I prefer to used the same person that I been using for the last 3 years.. At least, I'm know he is attached with a legal company... All their vehicles has a big sticker written with Terbilang Travel & Tours on the driver and co-driver door.. At the Cenang Beach area, between Meritus Pelangi Resort and Laman Padi, quite often the polis will setup road block to check the driver's license, vehicle road tax and ownership..

Hey anyone experienced Langkawi during/before LIMA event? Going to visit Langkawi this 23-25 March'13..Heard that its gonna be super packed, so still considering whether to go ahead or not..thank you in advance for all the inputs : )
*
LIMA event will be held on the 26-30 March.. During that period, school holidays already started.. Things will be very expensive during that period.. Hotel rooms will be sold on rack rates, car rental will be super peak prices, some restaurant will also increase their food prices... Restaurant will be fully packed with people.. Try to avoid visiting Langkawi during that period, but if LIMA event is the main reason for u to go, then u should go and experience it..

P.S. I have the opportunity to visit the first LIMA in year 1991, continue with 1993, 1995, 1997 and 1999 was my last visit... Still having those LIMA souvenirs...

but dont think is gonna be as pack as if done in dec at the end of the year.
*
It will be packed... Just came back from Langkawi last Saturday 26/01 and met with my ex-hotel colleague and resort owner who mentioned that they are fully booked.. FYI, tourists from European countries normally visit Langkawi between December till March.. They came by chartered flights... Don't forget about the LIMA organiser teams, crews, VIP's and Cabinet Ministers with people accompanying them, government officials, enforcement officers plus ordinary visitors too... LIMA event is held for 5 days only for every two years . People look forward to visit this event... except me.. Last visit was year 1999...

Thanks zstan. Since many people recommended renting a car, I suppose parking won't be a problem in Langkawi right? I'm thinking to visit Pulau Payar as part of itinerary, any idea where would be the convenient place for parking nearby the jetty?

is pantai tengah is far from kuah town ?
*
Between 15min-20min drive if u use jalan bukit malut during daytime.. At night, Jalan bukit malut is very quiet, very less traffic, normally the locals will use jalan kedawang- jalan padang matsirat to go to town and vice-versa.

anybody go to stay with Resort World Langkawi before? Nice?
*
Resort World Langkawi is located at the end of Jalan Pantai Tengah. There is no beach for beach activities but the property is located near the sea where you will enjoy watching luxurious yachts and boats docking at the jetty.. They also have the Star Cruise jetty located nearby... If you are a person who like to spend more time at the hotel, less travelling, then you could enjoy patronising the hotel facilities. Renting a car is a must for travelling.. But if u prefer to spend 80% time outside, then this is not the suitable place to be... You should be looking at hotels located at Pantai Cenang or hotels in jalan pantai tengah which is nearer to pantai cenang..

Resort World Langkawi seems a bargain but I heard the distance to happening place is very far? .... and no beach nearby?
*
Resort World Langkawi formerly known as Awana Porto Malai is located at the end of Jalan Pantai Tengah and there is no beach surrounding the property.. But they do provide jetty facilities for boat and yacht to dock. If u have a car, u could drive down to pantai tengah nearby Aseania Resort (less than 5 minutes) to enjoy the beach plus watching the sunset.. Many years back, Resort World Langkawi does provide boat service transfer to a private island nearby for their guest to enjoy beach facilities... U have to check with the resort whether they still provide this service!!!

Most of the happening place are located at Pantai Cenang and by having a car wont stop u from travelling to those places which take less than 10 minutes...

QUOTE(chloe_yee87 @ Apr 4 2013, 11:07 PM)
I've just booked this resort an hour ago. Will be going there next month, reviews in tripadvisor are pretty good though.
*
Great location, just 5-10 minutes walk to the busy Pantai Cenang, nearby to roadside restaurant and groceries stores, environment peaceful at night, rooms are built semi-detached with private balcony, basic amenities, clean and comfort, less than 50 meters to the beach, excellent customer service from the caretaker... Value for money...
