The problem is not with the crown, which can be pretty strong, depending on the material. The problem is with the tooth. It depends on the extent to which the hairline crack has comprised the structural integrity of the tooth. But you must also understand that when they do a root canal job, they drill away quite a bit of the tooth in addition to scraping away the nerve and sterilizing it before filling it. To fit the crown, they have drill off some more of the tooth. By the time they're done, you're left with a lot less tooth than you started off with! Added to this, once the nerve has been removed, the tooth is dead - there is no blood supply. Over time, it becomes brittle.

But there are people like ozak who've had crowns for years and not had any problems. I think you've got to discuss this with the dentist and see how strong your tooth is, or rather, how strong what's left of your tooth will be when they're done with it.

The other thing with crowns is that if you want 'em strong, they will inevitably come with some metal core over which you have a white composite/porcelain/ceramic layer (or gold if you want something flamboyant laugh.gif). The alloy might contain stuff in it you don't want inside your mouth, like nickel, or worse, mercury. A pure composite/porcelain crown won't last long.

Just get the tooth pulled and get a denture fitted on a partial plate. This is the cheapest and most conservative solution and one that is least destructive. To fit a bridge, the dentist will need to drill TWO of your teeth. In effect, you'll be getting two crowns with a false tooth in the middle. If one of the crowns fail, there goes your RM5000.

Implants are expensive partly because of the titanium alloy and partly because this is a surgical procedure. They're drilling into your jawbone and sticking this implant inside, and you pray that your jawbone won't reject the implant or that the bone won't crack. Scary.

Some years ago, I think you could have got an implant done for RM4000 at UH. If the price is say RM60000 for 6 teeth, that'd be RM10000 a piece. You'd probably be able to get an implant done more cheaply in Poland or Slovakia. However, you'd probably need to stay there for six weeks or more, or go back two or three times. The expense will kill you.

Some dentists might be able to fit you with a temporary denture in 2-3 days.

Klinik Pergigian Dr. Ho Dan Rakan-Rakan. 17A, Jalan Kenari 1, Bandar Puchong Jaya, Puchong, 47100. 03-5882-8228

If she can't fit you in, try

Kuan Dental Surgery: 2-1, Jln 24/70a, Desa Sri Hartamas, 50480 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan. Contact No: 03-23007 2252.
She's one expensive lady though!

You can also try:
Yap Dental Specialist Clinic 38-2 Jalan PJS 8/2. Mentari Plaza, Bandar Sunway Tel: 56384348
He's probably just as expensive as Lily Kuan.

If your tooth is just chipped, why not leave it until you've had time to consider your options? If it is just a chip and the root is intact, you can get a simple crown done, no need for a bridge. Once you've had the tooth pulled out, your only options are dentures, a bridge or an implant.

Why not try go further away like some town side dentist. If got kampung side and another state, try the dentist there. I believe the price is much more cheaper. This Puchong, pj or kl are too expensive.

Checked with my dentist today. Tooth crowning cost at RM600 per tooth. Since I might do bridge, she quoted me around RM1600. Didn't ask for implant cost but surely pricey.
Do a temporary denture at RM150. smile.gif

OK - Yesterday I was having my dinner at Tappers, Setia Walk and earlier enjoying the 50% discount & free coffee for the muffin I bought...

Well, more & more food outlets opened and so do few closed one (Kenny Roger) & Sushi Tei???

Also start seeing lotsa kids playing inside the pool liao haha. Good start with bigger crowds

Will like to see more outlets other than just foodies - For sure now... so much of discounted food there
