I saw some broadband thread discussions combining maxis skmm pack rm25/mth with vpn rm10/mth and achieved high speed unlimited internet service at only rm35 permonth.

Just found out by using a energy comsumption meter that my Astro silver decoder operating wattage is 12.5w on standby mode. If I switch off the main power from 12am to 12pm everyday, I can save approx rm18 a year.

Also, my aztech modem and linsys wifi router are consuming 14.7w on 24/7. Had I switch it off before bedtime and switch it on whenever I need to, I could have save another rm24 a year.

Oh! My C2d pc + 22" LCD + speaker and sub woofer need 160w energy when surfing lowyat net. Playing a youtube video on a new tab will increase the meter reading to 170w
Very interesting toy indeed.

Kill a watt meter?

PC sucks power a lot. I change from pc to laptop to iPad now for surfing. Save me a lot.
*
Yes. Similar gadget.
My next project is to measure the total wattage needed to fully charged an iPad2.

What device you use to monitor the Watt used by each equipment ?
*
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=51487743
Something similar to the device in the picture but mine is of other brand.

Ipad2 needs 11.2w to charge and to charge it from 0% to 100% requires 0.0380 kw/h.
Thus 0.0380. X Rm0.334 = Rm0.012692 for 9 hours net surfing.

If I use pc to surf net for 9 hours:
170w x 9hours x Rm0.334 / 1000 kw/h = Rm0.511

Energy cost saving is 87.5% for using ipad2 over PC.

err...On/Off/On power ok-kah? If I switch off the power, means at the mains which kills power to my TV, Astro, Unifi + router...will this short something?
*
Well, is entirely your own preference, you can on it 24/7 if you are not comfortable doing it. For me, i'm ok. my tv, astro, router all ok. thumbup.gif
I'm not using unifi, my pstn landline still on standby when the modem is off.

I'm going to stop going to mamak places from now on.

Here's why:

I was at Mafana just now, had a serving of Briyani, a piece of chicken, and three different types of vegetables.  The bill came up to RM13.80 which I thought a bit much so I queried this at the cashier and he mumbled something and beckoned the waiter over.  The waiter said:  "Briyani, one yegg, one chicken, one vegetable 9.50.  You take 3 vegetable, one vegetable two ringgit.  15 ringgit."  I said this was unacceptable or something to that effect.  Then they wrote it out on a piece of paper.  Plain briyani = RM5.50.  Chicken RM4.50.  3 vegetable = RM6.  Total = RM16.  I protested that they'd now come up with three totally different bills for me to pay.  So the cashier said ok ok you pay 13 ringgit.  I refused to pay that amount, gave him RM12 and said that was all I was going to pay (actually I wonder now why I gave him so much, the most I've ever paid for briyani was RM11 at Hasbuna, which is far better than Mafana).

Better stick to Chinese establishments from now on, and non-mamak banana-leaf joints.
*
For that price, you can go to JM Bariani House at IOI Boulevard, air conditioned, spacious, comfortable, good food and the price is definitely more value for money than Mafana restaurant.

- SEKINCHAN Ikan Bakar chain or Restaurants (there is an outlet in Bandar Puteri, Puchong)
( owner several LARGE chains of restaurants doesn't
SOUND "Petty" )

- IBM Automobiles Sdn Bhd
( owns AP's [ Approved Permits ] to IMPORT foreign cars )

To prove my point about not going to mamak places anymore, I had lunch at the Indian stall at Asia CafĂ© just now.  I had white rice, yegg, three vegetable, a pappadam (soft liao) and some dal.  RM5.50.

On another note, I asked at the maxis agent at IOI mall just now.  Taman Wawasan don't have the fibre thingy yet so cannot register if you live there, and the RM118 is for the period of the contract only.  Once the contract expires, it's anybody's guess what happens to the monthly fee.  Maybe go down to RM88 kua.  shocking.gif

Maxis piggy back on TM Unifi line lor from what I read in another Maxis fibre thread... So those areas wth Unifi for sure having Maxi Fibre. They just use TM backnone but at cheaper rate.. How they do that? Dunno  biggrin.gif
*
Just spoked to a telco friend and he said he would still prefer to put his money on TM for home Internet service because maxis may not be as 'socially responsible' as TM to hold back the unlimited data quota promise.
Also, Maxis overseas traffic bandwith may not be as 'broad' as TM, he said. But no doubt the package is cheap and good to give TM some competitions.

Over 19 branch outlets Sekinchan Ikan Bakar (one outlet in Bandar Puteri puchong) are now in deep water.
The restauranteur and imported cars dealer big boss is the leader of Bersih 4.0- Bersihkan Bersih 1,2,3.
Don't know Bersih 2,3 supporters will continue to support his restaurants or not ?
