Hey guys,

Based on your experiences of warranty claims with AppleCare/normal Apple warranty, what are the odds of getting a successful iPad warranty claim after obtaining an unsightly, unfortunate dent on my iPad? This is because - due to the usual Apple iProduct problems (such as home/sleep/volume buttons getting stuck etc being really imminent - heck, i have replaced my iPod touch 5 times before this thanks to the build quality.

This is my new iPad 64GB WHICH unfortunately got dented as THE stupid casing (Ozaki iCoat Slim-Y or whatever bullshit) DID NOT protect my iPad from the slight fall (which is from my knee to the floor anyways - and the case detached itself upon impact to the floor). =____=. My iPad is 4 days old and I have heard of people getting their warranty void because Apple refused to honour damages done in this manner (they even placed cosmetic damages to be in the same category as "water damage".

This is the visual of the dent on my iPad btws.

Hence, any advices upon this as I have extended 2 years of AppleCare alongside this at point of purchase. =_____=

Thanks!

Previously, my iPad 2 had a problem with the screen near the home button, where it seemed that the adhesive was wearing out, causing that edge of the device to slightly raise. As you can imagine, I was quite unhappy and sent it in to one of the resellers here in KL since it was still under warranty.

Unfortunately, my iPad was in worse shape than yours, with dents on both sides, as well as some scratches due to a casing that didn't adequately cover the frame. As expected, Apple initially refused to provide a replacement, however after persisting and asking to speak to the senior consultant, and not the first level guys, I managed to get mine replaced

Basically, it could be hard if you have issues in the future, not impossible. Anyway, right now, since everything is still fine, don't worry so much, and make sure you have a decent casing which actually protects the frame (iPads are surprisingly soft, I learnt this the hard way). Just take care of it well, and don't think too much la tongue.gif

Oh, also, my iPad just had normal warranty, I didn't get the AppleCare thing

Thanks dude, I've managed to call AppleCare earlier today and they just asked me to send in the iPad for them to evaluate the damage as yeah, I do have some intermittent WiFi issues with the iPad 3 either ways. So yeah, hopefully they'll replace it with a new/refurbished unit la. smile.gif But either ways, the damage is already done and I guess there's no point crying over spilled milk (or a dropped iPad, for this instance) lor. :/

My mum Ipad2 got charging problem which sometime charge sometime didn't. So my sister sent to Machine to check and claim the warranty on repair or replacement.

But the Customer Service rejected my request on the charging problem, due to there are dented at the edge. According to them, due to the dent the warranty is void. May i know is there any warranty T&C on this statement?

My question is : will the dent cause the charging problem? if yes, then it seem quite un-pro design or design defects?!!? As the charging port is at the middle, something dented at side causing the charging failure????!!!!

2nd, The original smart cover also did not help to prevent the edge damage. what else if they already know those dent may cause hardware failure or void the warranty.

Now, i do need advise, as the Apple Senior manager now offering me for an option to pay RM249 on the product care insurance. He willing to replace me an new ipad2 only which only got 3 months warranty. As my sis ask further regarding these replacement unit, the manager said it is original from factory and not an recon or demo sets.

If i did not opt for this option, my the other choice is to pay RM1200++ for the replacement of parts. Is it the charging part so expensive?

please advise. TQ

Based on my experience last time - I've contacted AppleCare directly and they adviced me to just send it in to their authorised service providers (VR Tech/MacCity or etc) - and they will handle it from there. But based on what I've read in forums etc, the only way is to convince AppleCare peeps to help out with your issue la. And based on my previous experiences with Apple products (2 iPod touches, 1 iPod nano, and 1 iPod video), Machines is the most unfriendly reseller in Malaysia as they're all about profits, profits, and profits. icon_idea.gif

And ans to your first question - maybe. Apparenly their choice of using Aluminum as a back cover plate is quite a terrible choice although it distributes the impact instead of absorbing it into the internal components. Hence, the dent is easily created la. But erm, yeah - they have a valid reason to void your warranty claim due to physical damage la. But charging failures are pretty much common tho. Did your iPad 2 have any water damages etc? And speaking of which, "physical" or "accidental" damage is in the same category as "water" damage for Apple products. Hence, even if you were to have AppleCare, they might not cover it afterall.

2nd - Smart cover is useless. Period. And it's at their discretion to save your ass or screw you up either ways... So honestly no point arguing with them.

If they offered you an option, and gave you a personal guarantee along with it, then take it! But erm, make sure you don't kena scammed la. Cos the senior managers should be helpful, not trying to market AppleCare out of it. So yeah, are you sure you contacted the right person? And paying RM1.2k for what? Just to replace the aluminum back casing? Heck, go buy the new iPad or don't buy an iPad at all then.

When you say "Apple senior manager" you mean from the reseller, or Apple itself? Just want to clarify.

And the replacement should be 70% of full price roughly, based on what I was told previously. It's expensive, because they don't change parts, but the entire unit.

I also dropped my new ipad on day 4 sad.gif and everything is fine except there is dent on top right corner ( Which i think it saved my screen from cracking ). Means my warranty void ? I had another 1 year from Sen Heng, is it void as well? sad.gif

I don't know what happen but suddenly my ipad had a minor dent. So I have called Apple Reseller Store where I bought my ipad he said that if our ipad has a dent then it will be immediately void the warranty. What the.......??

My dent is very small i don't think it is exceed 4mm.

What can cause a dent. I charge my ipad near my mac. Can the dent cause by the burn/hot/ or brush to the imac?

Just don't send Ur iPad to machines coz they do this stupid ridiculous 'got dent means no warranty' crap.

I called up apple to resolve my issue and I got a replacement unit.

Mine had dust under the screen but also had a small dent at the charging area. No issues at all except dust under the screen... Totally unrelated but they said the dent voids all warranty which is total bullshit la
