personally, i think the tag targets the young at heart, while the omega targets at the stable. i may be wrong but this is my opinion la.

for me, the omega is something i can wear to work everyday but not on weekends as i am always dressed down (tshirts, bermudas and flipflops). tag is something i can wear to work everyday and can also wear on weekends cause it somehow suits the dress down.

below were the models i was looking at :-
carrera - gorgeous
monaco - requires time to get use to the square face
seamaster - chunky
speedmaster - very nice

had hard time deciding as the price range were quite similar. the speedmaster won. ended up with the chrono date/day.

as said, i only wear during work and weekends i will flaunt my g's!

Wow this thread still alive?

At the end of the day it boils down to personal taste. Both has its own heritage, TAG in motor racing and Omega in moon/divers.

However, I prefer Omega for the simple reason that the designs are cleaner and it generally better finished. I own a P.O 8500 and the finishing on the watch is fantastic. Of course having its own "in-house movement" is a major plus as I tend to buy watches with its own calibers.

In late 90's I like Tag F1 chrono series metal & rubber type. very nice, hype & all my friends has one. But movement quartz & retail for 4k+

I am glad I made the right choice & never regret looking back almost 15years ago... for the same price I bought a omega seamaster. My fav basher then & now...

Rolex comes into the picture in 2007 (Explorer) & Submariner (2008) I hated rolex it makes me look old & its an old man brand. 5years later it begin to make me look younger... (you cant go wrong with sports model)

Modding it ah....abit scary ehhh...change the glass..

I wonder why Rolex still keeps the cyclops window. I mean if the size of the date is an issue..there are Big dates complication available...

But it could be me that hates the cyclops..maybe the majority owners of rollies loves the cyclops ehh..

Deepsea is without cyclops.

My vote goes to Omega. Better resale value and more exclusive among the vast majority.

My SMP 2254.50 is my everyday watch which is keeping time well and sports watches just match with any attire you wear.

Cheers.

i suppose then Sean Connery 007 for wearing is vintage Submariner is a china man then?
lol

Rolex is will always be a status symbol of quality, success and luxury....
If that means being a chinaman then its a tribute to China as an economic powerhouse...

Oh back on topic. Omega FTW smile.gif

Ahh..but your are a Rolex fan hence you are bias...smile.gif

I believe many is still stuck with the old notion that Rolex= Apek. Its because the way Rolex used to market itself...

But nowadays if you look at the new Rolexs...they are designed to catch the executives ..

Go to Singapork..Hong Kong..even New York ...you are bound to see loads of people wearing Subs and GMTII

Anyways... back to the offtrack equation Rolex>Omega... smile.gif

If you still remain the image Rolex > than Omega, your information is not update an still remain like past few years.

China already overtakes US became world highest demand luxury watch market on 2012

Omega gain 20.2 % attention
Longines 18.9%
Rolex 10.5% in china market.

The lead that Rolex held over Omega is not just quickly narrowing, can say no advantage in the fight.

Statement:
Rolex facing stagnant market.
Omega just do a great big leap.

And don't forgot the Olympic is coming soon.
That could be another situation of being beaten.

The statistic that more and more ppl are buying Omega is EXACTLY why i will never want to own one smile.gif

except perhaps their speedy pro moonwatch... perhaps their only one in the lineup with any real significant pedigree...

hmmm...

Money goes to advertising...thats for sure. But...it is only through advertisng that a brand achives certain "status". And we humans buy things (especially a watch) as a status icon.
So..you cant blame Rollie to be more expensive $-$ as its actualy in part of the intristic value of the watch.

If you want to argue like technical functions in Omega > Rolex..mights as well take the argument of the digital watch which has like 50 functions but cost like 50x lesser.
The same reason why I say although my P.O 8500 (technically) superior than the SubC, however..its will never carry the "Look I have a Rolex on my wrist" perception.

When it comes to buying premium watch...its always never based on rational thinking..otherwise all of us will just wear well made digital watches smile.gif

When i was in China (business trip) last year .
Seems to me that people are only talking about AP and Vacheron Constantin . I don't see many Rolex and Omega wearers .
Most of the Rolex wearers are from the older generation , 40s and above maybe?

Different area different brand conquer ?

Ahaha...strange as I am in complete opposite...I tend to shy away from Rolex because its too obvious. Some people like it for the flair but I dont get it. Of course I will be lying to say I never considered getting a Rolex, but all in all I am quite happy that I didnt buy the SubC when I had the chance. I just wanted a daily beater and thought the SubC would have been a good choice. I think the P.O complements me better... as so far no one has "Hi..is that an Omega?". blush.gif

Love it....!!

Perception.

Used to be a china man kinda thing.

But Chinese these days... are trying to be more "sophisticated" hence they are trying to shed the old china uncle rolex image.

Becasue Rollies and Omegas are just premium. AP and VC, PP Lange are haute horlogerie brands which is supposed to be a step up.. :0

You know China has the most billionaires in the world rite so..a watch that cost 100k RM is nothing to them lol
