people are great in this game, experience when i play in closed-beta.. think of it playing online games has cost me so much.. my grades fall and my wallet becomes thinner.

if there is any paid mmorpg i gonna play in future, no doubt it's this game or wow

From the news I've been reading it looks like it will be free to play

http://www.massively.com/2010/06/11/set-sa...-waters-online/

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/12/uncharte...-journeys-west/

But I think English server will be new and separate

It becomes a routine because economy is very important especially when you are among the top ranks but for starters, try enjoy the game via artifact hunting or knock down some pirates.

is the starting class limiting you in what you can do in the game?

If not mistaken, you have to choose your starting class between adventurer, trader and soldier. is what you can do in game limited to what class you choose?

Nope, starting class will not limit what you can do in game. Although some quests are restricted to certain classes, changing a class is fairly easy.

Good to know. So out of curiosity what class did you start with? I'm thinking either trader or soldier. I used to love bringing in gold all the way from africa or spice from india and made a fortune per trip. enough to invest in ports and build better ships. can you still do this?

yes of course, in fact bringing spices from india is among the fastest way to get rich & there are some selling techniques to gain better experiences. Investing ports surely will pop out better ships and new trade items but you'll need a national effort to see the effect unless you have like a few millions dollars to spare. The easiest route to start with is being an adventurer because I need the extra boost of speed for my sampan, besides I will automatically receive the trader & soldier license in the middle of the game tutorial.

Its good that I get some info off you. I never knew how to start since I have played only the last two Uncharted Waters on the x86 system. That was so many years ago although I can say I have finished those games multiple times.

Then the chinese / japanese version for UWO came on but I couldnt play it. I hope there will be more ppl joining then it will be good to sail in some trade convoy biggrin.gif

Choosing a country is also important
AFAIK the natural advantage for Portugal is India trade, Spain prolly has better control over the Caribbean trade & powerful maritime, England is more like an overall balanced country. But these traits may change depends on the political willingness of a country to occupy certain key ports. Smaller countries like Venice, Holland & France has more specialized advantages in skills like textile manufacturing, arts, gem trade, etc.

Concept is the similiar but I haven't play both games so I don't know about the gameplay. One thing I'm sure is both games do not have exploration quests to search for ancient artifacts or endangered species

As far as Anno 1xxx is concern the only similarity is sailing biggrin.gif I believe you cannot choose to build production buildings and set up production chains.

If it works anything like the previous two UW, then the map is basically the world map and there are ports scattered all over. its up to you to discover them and become rich by trading. There are also quests scattered i guess like strace mentioned some are about treasure hunting, maybe pirate hunting too????

Strace, how did you find this game, did you play the previous two edition of Uncharted Waters by Koei?

I played all the uncharted waters series except the first.
production chains, online version has that smile.gif

When you talked about the strength of a country, its usually refers to its economic strength & geographical advantage. So here I'll break down each country's economic advantage.

Portugal
-Powerful fragrance & spice trade route because the Portuguese Empire has already established an administrative port in Goa, India which can't be taken over by other countries.
-If Diu, India is colonized by the Portuguese, it will be a very profitable velvet textile production port (less tax & can purchase more materials). Last time I made about 20 million, 2 hours daily under controlled market condition.
-Gold & gemstone trade is also a viable route

Spain
-Barcelona, Valencia, Parma weaponry trade routes
-Gold!
-Genoa, Calvino arts trade routes
-Caribbean trade mainly on manao, metal & dye goods
-Textile production/trade

England
-Gemstone trades. Most ports in north Europe has the offers highest prices
-Grand Cayman trade in Caribbean sea, clash in Spanish territory
-Dover-London trade routes
-Copenhagen-Lubeck precious metal trades
-Gold, Hamburg offers the highest gold prices of all ports
-Textile production/trade

Holland (almost similiar to England)
-Gemstone trades. Highly valuable goods in North Europe, so England is basically Holland's natural enemy at economic scale. Easier to train gemstone trade skills though
-Amsterdam-Gerderland trade routes
-Copenhagen-Lubeck precious metal trades, another fight with the England
-Gold, maritine war or investment war with England for Hamburg
-Textile production/trade

Venice
-Venice trade routes
-Genoa arts/dye trade routes, clash with Spain/France
-Gold, Napoli. The shorter route to sell gold over there & immune to oversupply of gold but prolly have to fight with Spain
-Gemstone trade, get gemstones from Sri Langka/Calicut

France (weakest country in economy, but they have the royal navy ship which is best for PK/pirate)
-Genoa arts trade routes
-Gold, similiar to Spain
-Red Sea
-Textile trades

sorry I never use Venice and France tongue.gif
Any questions? smile.gif
