Just get another battery to double the back up time. Or get a biger capacity battery. Or use a USP. Or live without alram for a day till you come back.

Not true. It depends on the system how much energy it takes and not all manufacturers have same spec just like TV, your mobile phone and there are normal batteries and high capacity batteries. If you have a notebook there are notebook that can last up to 10 hrs and yet some only 1 to 2 hrs for 6 cells battery and there are 9 cells battery. As the battery aged just like mobile phone the battery cannot last as long as when it was new. The alram battery life per charge also depends on how many channel are installed and on.

The batteries are not expensive depend on mades and capacities should not be more than RM100 a piece. I bought it for RM55 before another shop quoted RM80 for another brand. Just buy another and connect it side by side. Get your installer to advice how to connect. Wrong connection which double your voltage will burnt your alram system board. These are DC, for example if you connect two dry cell batteries 1.5v and 1.5v you get 3.0v with first battery + to secound battery - connection. My friend car with 2 12V batteries, one in front bonnet and the other at the booth. Both batteries get charged and discharged depending on what is on in the car. When music is play the 2nd battery is discharging.

ANSWER:
In the SERIES CONNECTION, batteries of like voltage and Amp-Hour capacity are connected to increase the Voltage of the bank. The positive terminal of the first battery is connected to the negative terminal of the second battery and so on, until the desired voltage is reached. The final Voltage is the sum of all battery voltages added together while the final Amp-Hours remains unchanged. The bank's Voltage increases while its Amp-Hours, Cranking Performance and Reserve Capacity remain unchanged.

In the PARALLEL CONNECTION, batteries of like voltages and capacities are connected to increase the capacity of the bank. The positive terminals of all batteries are connected together, or to a common conductor, and all negative terminals are connected in the same manner. The final voltage remains unchanged while the capacity of the bank is the sum of the capacities of the individual batteries of this connection. Amp-Hours Cranking Performance and Reserve Capacity increases while Voltage does not.

Added on April 17, 2012, 9:28 amWhat you can do is in the Parellel Connection you just get two wires connect your new battery to the existing battery like in the diagram. Same like when you jump start a car, + to +, - to -. It is so simple. Both battery will receive charge and discharge when in operation.

If you connect in series your alram board will burn.

Swtich off the main power supply to the alram system before you do the connection yourself to be on the safe side. Dont touch with your bear hand anything look like a fire craker, if any. These are capacitors and it stores some current might hurt you eventhough the power is off. only a shock you wont die. Use test pen to touch and discharge first anything you want to touch.

The battery issue is only a temp solution. The problem of ELCB trips has to be rectified. Something is really wrong and it is dangerous.
