TO all professional here.. I bought an external HDD from a booth in Pikom PC Fair (1) 2012 today. however, i felt that my hdd is not a genuine from WD. my suspicious grow, i would like to ask is there any way to check if it's genuine or not..

P/S: I done some checking on the WD websites. the model i bought is WD ELEMENTS 2.0 usb 500gb. I presume it's an old model. however the P/N number shown is WDBABV6400ABK-00

the 6400 represents the capacity of the HDD.. mine is 500gb not 640 gb.

May i know is this a genuine or not? or a refurbish device?

i had checked the serial number.. WD websites stated the 6400 product number instead of 5000 product number...

WDBAAR6400ABK-PESN this is the product number WD websites gave me..

p/s: i had checked WD community forum.. they said that the 6400 / 5000 is the capacity of the product.. mine is 500gb... im pretty sure this is not the product number...

Get hdtune and read the Smart info from the hdd, check the up time of the hdd. It will state how many hours the hdd has been running and most of the problem.

Don't think negative first. When they sold to you, are you buying a 500gb or 640gb hd first? What was written on the sales board? If you bought a 500gb but the case indicates a 640gb then it should be ok because u wanted to buy a 500gb. So no worries.

Unless u bought a 640gb and gotten less like a 500 inside, then you could go claim. Else u are going to make trouble for nothing.
