Well, an additional 4GB RAM doesn't cost that much anyway right>? laugh.gif
But if you're tight on budget then rest assured, 4GB is enough~

Hi guys, appreciate some recommendation on buying a laptop.

1. Preferred Brand - Any
2. Budget - Around RM1500
3. Usage - Microsoft, browsing, Web-cam, Movies & Song, and light work. Not for gaming.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - Good battery lasting, Not heavy but light in weight, 14-16 (Not a big deal)

Question: Are all laptop's webcam standardized? Thanks.
*
Can consider this one bro~
14"
Toshiba Satellite L840-1000, i3-2350M + Intel HD3000@RM1599[2.12kg], 2GB, 640GB, W7HP

Nope, some laptop's webcam is of lower resolution.. usually laptops around this price range will only have VGA quality webcam, best also 1.3MP iinm

which is better ? in term of preformance
*
In terms of gaming performance, the Asus is better.
In terms of CPU performance (for Photoshop rendering, software calculations etc.), the Dell wins.
In terms of speakers, the Asus wins hands down.
In terms of warranty, Dell wins (if covered)
In terms of bang for buck, Asus wins.
Battery life should be more or less similar for both units hmm.gif

wait, pre-order means we order the purchase from the shop right?
while online order means straightaway from the laptop website..

for pre-order how long do i need to wait for the laptop?
i read somewhere in this forum the customer waited 1 month for G55vw..
*
Yeah, preorder through the shop. You are usually required to pay a small amount of deposit nod.gif

Only a few manufacturers offer online purchasing i.e. Dell, HP etc. For those, the model will only be purchasable when its really officially available nod.gif
I pre-ordered my Qosmio F60 almost 2-3 years ago, waited for approx. 2 weeks before I got it.. Its hard to estimate when the unit will come...

Your question is too general. Are you asking me? tongue.gif
It depends on you, if you are looking for something smaller and lighter, then the Lenovo would be the better pick. Otherwise, the Asus would be better, especially in terms of gaming performance nod.gif

Is it better to go for i7?
If i wish for gaming and photodhop?
Or just stick with i5?
*
Gaming performance isn't affected much by a quad-core processor.. the graphic card is more important.
Photoshop relies more on RAM and CPU power, so it all depends on your magnitude of Photoshop. If all you're doing is simple Photoshop tasks, then there's no real need for an i7

hi... i really on dilemma now.. need recommendation n suggestion from u all.. wink.gif

i need a laptop dat can running most engineering sofware... such as proe, autocad, fluent, solidwork....
btw, im planning to buy ultrabook..easy to carry n light.. but wat i heard, de gpu for ultrabook so poor.. like zenbook use intel hd4000...only half of de gt650 performance..

so i wan ask is it sofware run using gpu?? not cpu??

or i better go to gaming laptop?

Mind sharing your budget and preferred screen size?
I have the perfect recommendation if your budget is Rm9k brows.gif

Engineering softwares, based on what I've heard, relies more on CPU. GPU is used only when rendering 3D stuffs hmm.gif

A lot of laptops can fetch an insanely high price yo brows.gif
Anyway, since you don't mind having a larger and heavier laptop, then I guess its better you go for desktop replacements for the power rather than just the slimness and looks nod.gif

I am looking for a new notebook

Brand: Prefer Asus but not a must
Budget: Around 3000
Usage: Meeting 1-3 clients for presentation everyday, so VGA port and long battery life a must (or spare battery if choices are limited). Prefer fast startup. I also do 3D model and rendering for buildings. Other than that, I promised some friends to play Diablo3.
Prefered screen: 15' non-reflective surface.

Don't understand why Asus website for N55SF show: HD (1366x768)/HD+ (1600x900)/Full HD (1920x1080), that means there are 3 variants?

Thanks.

The Vostro 3550 comes entirely in matte, but the battery life is only normal, and the specifications are considered outdated already (you might want to wait for it to be refreshed if you are not buying in a hurry)

*use remaining money for warranty extension to 3 years

Other than that, you're going to have to make compromises on the non-reflective screen unfortunately sad.gif

Asus N56Vz-S3088V, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT650M@RM2699[Bang&Olufsen], 4GB, 750GB, W7HP, subwoofer and backpack

Toshiba Satellite L850-1001X, i5-2450M + AMD HD7670M@RM2499[2.41kg], 4GB, 640GB, W7HP, 3 years warranty

These two are running on an i5 processor, which will help save you some battery life, just try not to expect too much from them since almost all laptops within your budget only come with 6-cell batteries sad.gif

Is there any possibility those units added with SSD option? (for fast start, data security,etc...), how much the price may go up?
