Proton: Syed Zainal resigns
Proton Holdings Bhd MD Datuk Seri Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir has resigned, raising
concerns over the future of the national car maker which was recently taken over by
conglomerate DRB-Hicom Bhd. His departure, which could presage resignation from other senior
management staff in the company in coming weeks, is due to differences with the new owners
over Proton’s future direction, close associates of the Proton chief and industry executive said.

I doubt they would do rebadging as they themselves has clearly announced that there will be no Proton "POLO".. stating that rebadging is actually going backwards and bla bla...

Dammit. My biggest fears are coming true. A return to the useless proton of the 90s. Get rid of the good people first, chuck in garbage.

I can only hope that things don't get worse from here.

Probably this involve VW, TM plant which is not favoroble to him and proton.

But if i remember correctly, government already agreed VW-Proton collaboration. But Proton rejected. The cabinet give chance to Proton to come out their plan and present to government. Goverment seems to be satisfifed with the plan..

I wonder would he decide to go back to Perodua again? Since he actually came from there. I bet P2 would be glad to have him back again

The thing is despite SZ's tremendous contribution to Proton which includes introducing car models which were favourable to Mysians, improving Proton's QC and makes Proton more favouable after TM ruined it, his biggest downfall i think is his support for Group Lotus, morever as a supporter of Dany Bahar's crazy ambitious plans.

Pledging lots of Proton hard earned profits for GL which contributed to quarterly profit into negative is not putting Proton in favour to the eyes of DRB. DRB is now slowing getting rid of Lotus by cutting down funds to Lotus, which explains GL is pulling out from F1 as title sponsor. Eventually by changing the management and selling GL for profit will bring more monies and benefit for Proton.

Seeing SZ leaving is sad, but i will be furious if his replacement is TM.

Money is not a problem for Proton i guess. In terms of RnD, they receive grant from government. But of course, how long the goverment will keep giving them money?

The problem is, in terms of engineering we still lack on this. That is why DSZ want to keep lotus. He sees the benefit.

As a business Proton is not looking good. They are making alot of lost lately. DRB have deep pockets but i fear they will lower down quality and service in order to go back to black financially...

Keeping Lotus's engineering arm is good as this is the only division of Lotus that makes profit. However the car divisions dont. With Dany Bahar's ambitious but crazy 5-6 new car plans, new V8 engines, and crazy tons of money outflow for motorsports sponsorship doesn't seem suitable for a small car maker like Proton, moreover after just recovered from massive losses before SZ took over.

DSZ is great man. I think maybe he will join other better brand car rather then stay in proton.

After so many hard work to build back our trust. I can said now people looking at Proton as DSZ rather then proton brand.

Like looking at Apple as Steve Jobs. From here you can see how important that person to the company.

yes he is good in stabilising proton but one thing most of us dont know is syed mokhtar always want his own man to manage the groups.
for example when he bought POS, he put his own man in charge. so when DRB bought Proton, the question is not IF syed zainal to be replace, but WHEN. then come today.

dont bash mokhtar, i think he is a humble man. and the way POS malaysia going transformation these days, i think there are positives for proton as well. and everyone know mokhtar likes business and this means he likes profits. doesnt necessarily he will hike the car prices up for the profits.

and with proton out of government stable of business expect the protectionism to be less and less. not in one shot but little by little. so definitely we will see tighter competition.

but with DSZ doing so great in bringing proton back up despite since under govt
now under DRB, they should have ask him to stay
u never get the next person to be as good as him...unless with a proven track record
