Never heard of ppl turn off the fridge for half day and think it saves you electricity.

A better practice is DO NOT OPEN THE FRIDGE DOORS UNNECESSARY, DO NOT OPEN THE FRIDGE DOORS LONGER THAN YOU NEED, DO NOT OPEN THE FRIDGE DOOR WIDE OPEN THAN NECESSARY, THINK FIRST WHAT YOU WANT TO TAKE FROM THE FRIDGE BEFORE OPEN THE DOORS, GET READY TO PUT IN ALL THE THINGS YOU WANT TO PUT IN THE FRIDGE AT ONCE, will save you electricity.

new fridge kah ? or old 1 eh ? cox my house old fridge takde sound le  doh.gif
so does the sound eeeeeeeeee is normal for a fridge ?
*
All fridge got some sound except if it is loud or soft. The bigger the fridge the noisier it is. So dont be too proud that you have big fridge hahahahaha... biggrin.gif

Buying big fridge is to test it before delivery. make sure the place is quiet. Test two units at the same time. Once delievred the usual answer is it is NORMAL. of course it is normal if it got no sound it is abnormal. Same goes for aircond but you cannot test. So better check here in this forum or ask before going for the model you intent to buy.

When you off the fridge make sure it is wipe dry and open the doors for air circulation let the germs die otherwise bacteria will grow inside. Bacteria not only grow with closed doors on the surface compartments but also inside layer where you cannot see, cannot clean. So dont think when you clean it with soap later it will be ok. Air it. No moisture no germs. Germs die instead of multiplying.

i think i've seen somewhere that says turning off fridge for long period of time causes the gas to go empty?

Not true. If that is the case all the gas in the fridge in stock will go empty.

Added on April 12, 2012, 10:28 amWe cannot say someone for being clever or idiot trying to save some money.

I have a friend who tried to save some fuel/petrol coming downhill by swtiching off the engine. You know what happened next? The steering locked!!!!! and he crashed ! Whose fault? The car designer/engineer who try to prevent thief without considering the ignorant of driver/common people and without making sure enough warning about auto locking of steering and think all of us will remember the steering will lock itself! And we are talking about live and death. Idiot desiger/engineer, right? Still there are so many cars being stolen every day steering lock or not.

Where you do you placed the fridge? In a box like cabinet or open area?

Like speaker, if you put it in a box the sound travel further and louder as the sound wave is reflected toward a concentrated direction. Some ppl have it sandwich in between cabinet and the top is cabinet too, so you got the "box-in" fridge/speaker.

If your friend just switch it to acc on, steering should not be lock. Unless your friend turn full to off. Sometime people are penny wise and pound foolish.

Obviously he turned the key full off and the brake also become less effective.

Cant say a person is penny wise pond foolish. Experience matters most. Think back when you first get the license or first drive a car. Your dad's car, frend's car relative's car...did you know the steering would locked with key off? You dont read the manual because not your car and no manual available to you and noone tells you. And old cars dont have these features. Talking about experience, not only just these, there are people who bought cars and dont know the car need to change engine oil, some knows but dont know the grear oil needed to be replavced too and timing belt, etc, etc. And there was one case a women bought a brand new car and drove until petrol ran out, did not know the car need petrol to run and to refiled! she taught it was like a bicycle.

We human are smart and clever and learn. But when we are pure, we are dumb. So I think the danger of auto locking steering to those pure and dumb, not that it never happened, it happened just too many but ppl are embarrass to report. My friend holding high post in Japan. In japan he did not drive as public transport in tokyo is good unlike malaysia. so this was what happened when he came to malaysia having to drive.

ur story nice for sharing in the future maybe someone will ask the same questions all over again. honestly cannot accept ur women car petrol run out story! how can someone think in this way? the car moves effortlessly can think it is a bicycle..... i know this is a true story but for me i cannot stop laughing at this ....  doh.gif

This story came up in one of the newspapers in Malaysia some few years ago. When the car stoped and failed to restart she called the salesman. The salesman came over....the fuel meter E. E for Enough!!! That's why it made the news.

And yet many ppl dont know the car need water for the engine. What? You need to fill water? The car needs water to run??? They thought water is for cleaning the windscreen, never cross their mind it was for the engine cooling.

And many dont know how to fill petrol...until the introduction of self service station, change car tires, set radio stations...the purpose of low beam high beam and mis-use of hazard light during raining is just too common whether experienced or new drivers the same. And worst of all driving slow on the fast lane or drive at the speed limit occupying the fast lane thinking by keeping to the top speed limit allow him/her to use the fast lane. that force the fast cars to overtake from left/slow lane dangerously. Fast lane is for over taking and faster than any car behind you, not for keeping to the speed limit if many of you still dont know! Next time when you travel at road speed limit 110km/hr, move and give way to cars behind you travelling above the speed limit at 120km, 130km/hr. His/her way and rights to over take you fr fast lane and it is his/her choice to be booked by police.

Turning off the fridge? Penny wise pound foolish.

The health risk of bacteria growth on food/milk etc, additional wear and tear on compressor, is probably not worth the few bucks that you save.

Why are you assuming that you'll save rm30 month doing that? maybe it's just rm15?
If you're leaving it to room temperature, the fridge pushes the compressor to it's maximum power whenever you turn it back on.

It is penny wise pound foolish. He saved maybe RM0.40 worth of fuel and in exchange he got himself in thousands ringgit worth of accident. Even if he didn't get into any accident, he put himself in extra risk of safety (no engine braking, less control, no power steering), extra wear and tear on the alternator, extra wear and tear on the gearbox... all this for 0.40 worth of fuel?

No one is a fool. It is being not in the know and trend. That is why our fren is asking us in this forum.

Do you know how to fly a plane, for example? Do you know the higher you fly the less the fuel you need and the faster the plane goes? Next time when you are in a plane you know why they want to go so much higher, not that they need time to recover from the fall of the plane but to be faster and save fuel. The air is thinner less friction and less cloud and pilots can see better. But that is not entirely true. Why fly at high altitude as the distant is longer when earth is round? or circle is bigger compared to sea level? And the thinner the air the more the engine has to work harder and uses more fuel. They are still learning... and we are still leaning and one day someone design a new car like an electric car, we may not need this auto steering lock anymore where coming down hill the engine is off and all things still functioning without the engine running.
