The connection is Unifi VIP20.
Every now and then I get reports from a few people about wifi dropouts....

The max number of clients that I've seen at one time is 40.

The setup:
Gateway: WR841ND (DHCP enabled) <-----wired -----> WA901ND (AP)
|
|-----wired--------> 1043ND (AP)

So yeah those clients are not served solely by the WR841ND.

These devices have detachable antennas, and I've replaced all of them with TP LINK's 8dBi antennas.

Bandwidth control and access control is turned on, but these f**k*rs still PPS because it can use port 80.

If you ask me why I didn't use the better 1043ND as the gateway, well back then the router was not unifi capable.

40 clients at one time? Seriously, if each person uses 2 devices (1 laptop + 1 smartphone), that's 20 persons in the house!!!

Err... actually it's more like 20 persons x 2. tongue.gif Not in a house
Have never seen all of them connected at once though. Most of the time, the same people experience wifi dropouts.
You guys reckon by using the 1043ND as the gateway the setup will be more stable? IINM the cpu is only 100MHz faster (400MHz vs 300MHz) than 841ND.. will this make a big difference?

I guess maybe not the router, but the access point. So instead of depending on just 1 or 2 access points, have say 4 access points (1 from the router itself, and another three configured in AP mode), so that you could distribute it like in average just 10 clients on each AP.

u can try setup like this ....

Gateway:1043ND (AP) ---> WA901ND (WDS1) ---> WR841ND (WDS2)

WDS unit put at dead spots places.

Bandwidth set to 1-2MB perperson.

Thank you. biggrin.gif

As it is all routers/ap are connected to each other with ethernet cables (as per my diagram lol). Why would I use WDS and make it more unstable? (wired vs wireless, plus WDS will halve the bandwidth)
Thanks for the suggestion though.
Gonna use the 1043ND as the gateway and add more APs icon_rolleyes.gif

i think ur problem is signal not stable, then drops.

wds is for signal more stable, wired vs wireless is no different if the signal is strong.

i think add more APs is no different, but u can try.

Thank you. biggrin.gif

normally for home router, max concurrent users are up to around 30 only, limited by their hardware capabilities.

and if someone abuse the network, heavily download/upload, session not enough, heat up the modem, and make it frequent disconnect/reconnect or even rebooting frequently.

Get better router. Asus high performance series can handle them easily.

The TM router is trash.

That list of clients...

I suggest something more solid like an Asus RT-AC56U smile.gif
