Hi guys,
Just wanted to share my experience with a chain of stores named "Mesra Pet Shops"... I've been to their stores in Shah Alam and Putrajaya...
I'm most familiar with the Shah Alam one, in Sek 7 as it is near my house. Anyway my experience is that, at this particular branch, they manhandle their critters... and their staff members are very inexperienced!
They treat their cats ok, gave them a condo at the storefront and they look pampered as anything, but go to the back near the storeroom and you will find their small critters corner...
Once I saw they stuff all their rabbits (like 10+) into a small cage... at the time I thought this was probably temporary and I let go...
But recently I wanted to buy a partner for my buck (rabbit) and asked one of the Indonesian/Myanmar staff to show me one of their does... He took out one of my choosing, but then find that the opening was too small for the rabbit. Instead of gently easing the rabbit out he tried to squeeze her jugak through the small opening, squashing her belly and twisting her head this way and that, and it was HORRIFYING to watch... I was decently traumatized.
Soldiering on, I asked him to check the sex, and he said it was a female when I could CLEARLY see the testicles of the rabbit... however at the time I didn't know how to determine a rabbit's sex, so I agreed to take away the "girl" for RM25... When I arrived home, I Googled the way how to determine and confirmed that yes, it IS male, and hey, he also had a fungal infection on one of his ears...
Understandably furious, I stormed back into the shop with the boxed buck and demanded my bucks back. The guiltless staff first tried to make me trade for another rabbit, but I put my foot down and demanded that they gave me refund. Luckily for me the store was pretty busy then, and sensing that I wasn't going to back down without a fight, the staff fully refunded me.
But the fate of that rabbit is unknown... I feel sad that this could happen in a branch of a big chain store... hopefully this is an isolated case. I think, as a pet shop, the least you could do is hire staff that are more pet-friendly and could care for them with heart... I wish anyone wanting to buy pets from this store or others be more cautious of the shop's milieu before you buy, unlike me!

QUOTE(Thefiftytwo @ Feb 5 2013, 01:57 PM) Hi, I'm new to aquatic pets. I have a few 4ft and 3ft tanks left by my friend and I'm thinking of keeping fishes. I've read some tips online and would like to get some advice about where I should start. 1. Should I get a filter and pump? YES. You need to do a research on the different filtration systems that you can do for your tanks BEFORE buying. Otherwise you'll be wasting money. 2. What would be the best fish species for beginner? Easy to be taken care of and less demanding on the environmental factors Each species of fish has it own characteristics. You need to know about them. Some just gulp their food down; others eat, puke them out and eat again, causing the water quality to deteriorate faster. 3. Any recommended aquatic pet shop? 4. Internet says that I should not locate the fish tanks outdoor under direct sunlight. What would be the solution if I have no choice? Provide more shade for your tanks.5. Any tips for a beginner? Read more. Thanks

I just want to share my experience on an DISHONEST and RUDE pet groomer. I have been frequenting the grooming service in A PET STUDIO in Taman Midah, Cheras. The first time I went there, they treated me nice, and gave me a loyalty program card of 7 Free 1 for grooming service. They charged me RM25 for the basic grooming of my 4 yr old toy poodle. I thought the price was reasonable and I went there again. However, on the 2nd time, they charged me RM30 for the same basic grooming service. I thought price was still competitive so I went there again for a 3rd time, and was charged RM30 plus additional RM10 for poodle leg and poodle mouth. I did not argue with them and paid them. As I have already collected 3 stamps, I thought it was wasteful not to go there again as I only require 4 more stamps to collect a free grooming service. So I continued to frequent the shop, eventhough on the 4th time, my poodle was infected with lice after returning from the shop. Today is the fifth time I go there. I was charged RM40! They explained RM35 for basic grooming plus additional RM10 for poodle leg and mouth. I kept quiet and pay. However, as I handed over my loyalty card, they refuse to stamp for me, giving me an excuse that it had been more than a year since the first time I came. I told them nicely that this clause was not stated in the loyalty card, but they just shook thier heads and said No. As I leave, I told them that I am not coming back anymore, and guess what the owner told me, he shouted, " YOU DONT COME BACK ALSO NEVERMIND!". I did not want to argue, so I just walked away. This is a classic example of business operator who would not go very far due to their DISHONESTY, GREED, and shor-sighted view. If I am asked to rate their overall service, I would only give them 1/5. The one star that I gave is for their fast timing in completing the grooming (due to slow or no business).

I can't remember the exact name of this shop But it located at Suakasih, Bandar Tun Hussein Onn near the AEON Cheras Selatan and Deja Vu cafe. The name of the shop is Kat'z, Asta Kat'z or something, i can't remember and have no desire to remember (but one day i'll pay another visit).
If you have non-exotic breed, like stray cat etc. just stay away from this hell hole. The owner just look down on your cat and the owner, and possess some kind of weird self-highness, very egomaniac man. From the very beginning, he look at my cat he already accused me of mistreating the cat. Accusing me of putting eye-mo on the cats' eye. Then he just left me alone at the counter rudely accusing me of not serious and just "main-main".
Not only that, he also scolded my old man. Yes, he can look down on me, but scold a 50+ oldie? That's so wrong, i won't forgive it. What a shame for an store that pride itself as "all Muslim" cat shop. I'm a Muslim but this shop, more accurately it's owner just bring shame to the religion. Maybe he's a picky, don't want to treat owner of stray cat nicely, don't want to lay his hand on this "ugly" cats, yep he's not perform any checkup at all. Straight away accusing me with all his nonsense.
Well Mr, Don't forget we live in a small world. Who knows, maybe one day we'll meet again. It's not that hard for me to come by your shop at any time. I'm also thinking of filing a formal complaint. Don't think i'll let this slide just like that since i'm a very bitter man when it become too personal.
To summarize, fsck Asta Katz. And fsck the owner. If somebody know the owner's real name, kindly let me know.
addendum: I can confirm it's A'sta Katz, Hotel spa & grooming, Jalan Suakasih 1/2. The name is Khairul from the business card (wear specs, medium long hair).

My friend shared with me her experience going to Pets Wonderland. Apparently they did not handle properly the sugar glider that she wanted to check out. It was sleeping and the staff apparently just shook the cage to wake it up. I've read good reviews about that pet shop and heard that it was supposed to be one of the better ones here in Malaysia. Anyone else can share if they have had any similar experiences while in Pets Wonderland.
