My own thoughts:
So there you go guys, everything I could dig up so far of the new console. It seems that Sony wants to avoid the mistake of letting the Xbox360 get a chunk out of the new gen market for about a year before introducing their Playstation 3. If you are interested, please go to my other thread, Official Playstation 4(Orbis) Thread. Hope you guys got excited after reading the news. smile.gif Will update both threads accordingly as new info surfaces.

Personally, i dont think it would be coming out any time before 2015. Looking at what MS has been doing lately, cut down prices of xbox360 and increasing IPTV and services on live.

Most of the summit are just for brain storming, nothing really solid has been released yet. Heck even the optical drives vs DD havent been sorted out yet. MS just wants to gather feedback from developers what they need rather than build something that they dont need (SONY)

Contracts for GPU and CPU have not been discuss that is supprisingly odd, since GPU and CPU require the most time to RnD and build

Up till this point, its all speculation. IF websites report that "trusted sources" of Microsoft claim for a holiday 2013 release, then that gives them a bit more credibility than you or me simply speculating based on our opinions. Unless you work for microsoft yourself and have direct info to discredit. If not, your opinion's only as good as everyone's smile.gif

my prediction:
- diskless, SSD medium & online content
- SSD medium writable, hence save games or console ID lock will be possible
- external dvd drive sold separately for backward compatibility of x
360 games
- new controller that can provide feedback to kinect, something like ps move or wii u + kinect
- 2014 launch

if i got more than 50% correct then u guys belanja me kfc tongue.gif

Your already wrong in the support of backwarda compatibility smile.gif both sony and microsoft want to eliminate the used games market so their new consoles will only play brand new games that will be tied to a single psn and live account.smile.gif

Instead of next-gen console, there is also a rumor that said Microsoft will come out with Xbox Lite. An ARM-based device that's intended to compete with Apple TV.

we shall wait n see... smile.gif
no doubt they want to eliminate 2nd hand games, but to totally ignore the backward compatibility is a grave mistake.
if i already had a library of xbox360 games, to buy a new console that cant play it i'll have a second thought,
but if the new console is backward compatible with my old games? then i'll quickly get the new one to replace my old console.
elimination of 2nd hand games cant start with current gen games, as the infra n mentality is not there yet
but for next gen then its possible

Totally agree. What if they start releasing old games available on the xbox 360 like MAss effect3 for example, and re-release it for the xbox720 but on a single blu0ray this time? I'm on the same boat as u , if they were to eliminate backwards compatibility, I'll only consider buying the new console 2 to 3 years down the line. When they have a good library of games and wider support by developers. Same goes for the Orbis.

Can't play used games eh? I guess I'll stop at the 7th-gen then. Haiz, hope they cancel out this part in the near future....

Hope so. Because Gamestop and EBGames are companies quite heavily reliant upon the 2nd hand game business for their own revenue and profits. Being the few major retailers of video games in the US, they may be able to negotiate some things with microsoft over this. We'll have to see. Exciting times are abound for us gamers smile.gif

mostlikely, ARM APU system.

heck even the cut cost "lite" version of xbox 360 "FL" will be coming out on 2013 Mobo "Loops".

20-33% smaller than xbox360s with no optical drive, builtin psu (very good rumor)

I'm willing to bet my both nuts that MS won't go for bluray

there is no way MS will be paying royalties to their biggest console competitor
for each bluray disk/drive, MS will have to pay a certain amount to Sony, which will be laughing all the way to the bank

either MS develop a new optical media (which is very unlikely), or just stick with the current SSD technology, which is getting cheaper, writable, and fast (doesn't need installation anymore!)

I do agree that if microsof uses blu-ray, they'd be paying their competitor Sony to use it. However having 4 discs for ff13-2, mass effect 3 ,etc gets kinda old doesnt it?

hello~~~??? why everyone still think disk based? SSD? anyone heard of that?
advantage of SSD,
- waaay faster and more dynamic storage compared to disk based
- no more scratched disk
- quieter and cooler console
- no more installation required, as the game will run faster on SSD than normal HDD
- writable (console ID lock, gamer ID lock, patches, save games, DLC and the list goes on)
- difficult and expensive to pirate
- lesser R&D required for new media, they just need to create their SSD format with existing SSD technology

only downside for now is the cost vs disk based.

i still don't get the idea using ssd. what exactly is SSD? is it the solid state drive used in those
high end laptop? or memory card used in handset? how about cost? cheaper using ssd than paying royalties
to sony for using bluray disk?

This is probably the main reason for moving away from disks. Ultimately, we'll lose the ability to lend, sell, exchange the games we no longer want.
