Does anyone know of a physical shop selling olympic barbell plates?
The ones with bigger holes.
I really want to get 1.25kg plates or even smaller as the smallest my gym has are 2.5kg plates.
5kg increment everytime I do squats are getting a bit too much.
Cheers.

erm, fitness concept?

alternatively just get 2.5kg worth of magnets and just stick it to the existing plates whenever you want that small an increment?

Oops, I mean plates that fit an olympic barbell.
The ones with bigger holes.
Magnets? hmmmm, where do you get those? They come in different weights?

In case anyone is interested, they're having a sale at Weider B.Bintang but only for the 1.25kg rubberised olympic barbell plates.
It's only RM10 each, I got 2 for myself.

Not sure actually.
But there were at least another 20 plates there I think.
They might just want to get rid of it.

It is not a squat stand, it is a power rack with capability to add cable pulldown. Or you have anything similar but cheaper?

Just the rack without any attachment... pricey

Searching for cheaper options if anyone has cheaper alternatives for a power rack do let me know.

I think the price is like that la... gym equipment expensive what... I plan to ask if one of the metal shops (the ones that builds house grills, swings, etc) if they can build one... can copy the squat rack from whatever manufacturer la... but still I think it's gonna cost 1000+, becoz metal nowadays very expensive.

Bro, I think RM2.9k for the power rack is rather expensive.. for the plates, are the prices per piece or per pair? and the barbell is just a generic one? anybody else interested to buy? I think if we group up and buy can ask for discount..

Hello Jason missed your post... yup the power rack is super expensive.

Its price per plate, the guys at the shop just work there, cant give more discounts.

Maybe if purchased directly from Transmark the pricing will be better. Doesn't hurt to try, saving up for the power rack and bench.

Guys, my lecturer want to make a home gym. Currently, the cost are as follows:

Total: RM 4,782

1. Power rack GPR378 RM 2980
2. 20 kg plate x 2 (Ivanko) RM 528
3. 10 kg plate x 2 (Ivanko) RM 264
4. 5 kg plate x 2 (Ivanko) RM 132
5. 5 lb plate x 2 RM 44
6. 2.5 lb plate x 4 RM 44

For weight up to 220lbs
(Weight plates are quoted by aaronpang, credits for him).

Bench and mats price are not included but will be bought together so the price will increase.

Any idea/suggestion on where my lecturer can get better price/squat rack?

I'm planning to set up a home gym as well. My budget is around RM5k and I would like to purchase around 10 sets of dumbbells, barbells, weight plates and a bench. Unfortunately RM5k is not enough. I had asked a few sellers in KL and all of them told me the dumbbell sets alone cost around RM5k.

The bench cost around RM1250k in Malaysia whereas in the US you could get it less than that for the same model (http://www.amazon.com/Body-Solid-Incline-Decline-GFID31/dp/B002EEOOA2/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1342542091&sr=1-1&keywords=body+solid+bench). I know you guys might say I can't compare US price than the price in our own country but RM400 difference for the same bench is a lot in my opinion.

Should I buy dumbbell sets or smith machine/power rack instead? What do you think? If I buy the dumbbells, I can do chest, shoulder, back and legs workouts.

Don't have to buy all at one go.

Purchase fewer items to get started and add on as needs progress.

Fitness concept is having a sale right now, check out the benches on sale

Don't have to buy all at one go.

Purchase fewer items to get started and add on as needs progress.

Fitness concept is having a sale right now, check out the benches on sale

Rest of the catalog can be found here:-

If it's significantly cheaper can always order and ship from abroad  nod.gif

Thanks for the idea. I would like to buy the rubberized cap dumbbells.

I tried Amazon but they won't send the benches to our country unfortunately. Any other websites to recommend?

Yeah, a good quality bench is a killer. I bought a bench from Singapore for SGD 320 (around RM 800) and drive it back myself.

Just for your reference, I spent around RM3900 to start my home gym. Basically got a power rack, 1 x barbell bar, 2 x dumbbell bar, 20 pieces of floor mat, a bench and 80kg of weight. I know I'll be adding more stuffs, but start small. Can do pretty whole body with these setup already imo.

A pic of my setup:

That's a really great idea. I should opt for the dumbbell with removable weights instead of the cap dumbbell although I would prefer the latter. The former would save me a lot of money. I can buy a power rack/smith machine and the weights with the money. Can you suggest me any stores to survey the equipment? By the way, nice setup smile.gif

If you're looking for cheap weights, bars, or maybe even the occaisional power rack - then check Craigslist or Backpage.

There's a lot of people trying to sell their old workout equipment. Some of it still in near-mint condition.

Just make sure everything is standard.

Also, as far as power-racks and benches go, you can also build one yourself out of wood. Look online and you'll find many people have done this. It only takes a knowledge of geometry/physics and construction (and a trip to your local home construction store).

Voila! Your end result can quite easily be as safe as a standard metal version.

Hello VoodooEx thanks sharing.

Appreciate some information on the power rack. Cost, model and where it was purchased.

I'm still searching in the market for a quality rack.

Any idea/suggestion on where my lecturer can get better price/squat rack?

well, i've to say first that i'm a diy person, even it takes to a higher skill, i would and can do "somethings".
i'm a designer myself after all. smile.gif

at this stage, im a beginner but i also have looked a lil bit forward when i've gained my mass.

if i were given 5k or have any 5k budget, i would be buying plates only. E quipments such as power rack, bench press system, or cable system, and 3-4 in one bench and some others, i can design it myself. thumbup.gif

well, atleast i think its the best for me, cuz some people dont want to mess up with designs..lol rclxub.gif

Not bad .. i dont have any olympic bar ... Just have some equipment :-

1. Standard Bar 5 feet
2. Standard Bar 6 feet
3. Weights ... up to 100kg
4. Dumbbell
5. Bench (Incline/Decline)
6. Bench press support (to hold the bar)
7. Portable dip station
8. Yoga mat
9. Wrist equipment
10. Triceps Bar
11. EZ Curl bar (next mission)
