Don't underestimate the use of bf on ranged heroes. It's cheap damage, similar to stacking crystalises.

It's not pub mentality, it's called improvisation. You do whatever it takes to win, as unorthodox as it may be. There's no such thing as a good build or a bad build, it's all about what works at that given time. Na'vi has shown that time and time again by radical picks and over-the-top item and skill builds. Dendi's ES outcarried a Naix, and they won a major battle because of it. In another instance, they had a Rhasta that did not up shock until late game, sticking with hex, net and stats.

If you really wanna test bash on a ranged hero, I suggest testing it with sniper. Stun + ministun occur interchangeably, pretty awesome once you have enough attack speed.

Just Googled it and found a little trick to figure out your level. Search for your name in the replays page, and set the appropriate skill level.

Okay, just had the time to sit and read through the piles of rant. My view on the issue:
Devour makes DB an excellent carry OPTION, NOT a carry DEFAULT. DB's ulti makes him a better choice for ganker than carry, and IMHO for that game, your DB should have gone solo to level up quick and start roaming. A bottle and mid would have done you more justice than sitting in lane and racing to outfarm your ES. In fact, having devour negates the need to farm in lane. You could have given your ES all the creeps so he could rush his arcane and dagger. By pulling and devouring the ranged creeps alone, you could have farmed up a boots and couple of bracers, i.e. the minimum items you need to gank. Keep in mind that a well-farmed ES contributes more to a team battle than a well-farmed DB.

Carry or semi, but Jug is usually played as a hard carry when there are no other hard carries in the game. In the case of the game you're discussing, you should have been the hard carry.

Overall, the hero lineup was pretty bad for your side.
If you ganked because your DB was farming, then I feel you understand how the game works.

It's not difficult to play on your own, especially once you make it into the upper tiers. Sure making your way through ELO hell is a b****, but it's totally worth it. Pro allies, pro opposition, and no more games with 5 carries in the team.

I think the best thing about the hidden ELO system is you get paired with people who match your skill level, and not your imaginary one. It's a fact that every player thinks they're better than they actually are.

I admit the matchmaking system isn't flawless, but it seems to be doing okay so far. Which region are you playing in?
