Has anyone tried old Nikkor manual lenses on D800? I' m particularly interested with 55mm f2.8 AiS since it's arguably one of the Nikkor's sharpest lenses.

QUOTE(Everdying @ Apr 3 2012, 08:02 PM) the macro one? Yes, it should work. I was trying to ask how the lens fair on D800's high megapixel. I hope it can handle it dont see any reason why AiS lenses wont work, as it has been working on other bodies already. only question is whether it can resolve the high mp of the D800...guess u can be one of the first few to find out |

QUOTE(gerald7 @ Apr 14 2012, 09:20 AM) yesterday was doing a yumcha session with my friends and somehow the topic of photography came up and one of my friend a canon user was saying that he "read an article or comments in dpreview that because d800's high MP, the current line up of nikkor lens cannot handle the resolution (meaning cannot maximize) and most images would become SOFT. thats why, Canon is not chasing MP's but changing its line up of lenses." Clearly your friend has not even seen and pixel-peep a photo taken with D800 using Nikkor lenses.to me im normally pretty cool with who ever uses what la, not a real technical person either. for me its about the images at the end of the day not the technicalities of the gears. But when one hears smug comments like that, its kind of annoying. As if we are in the wrong camp and Nikon's made a booboo. I have heard this same sentiment from numerous d700 / d3 s/x owners. That D800's mp too high and current lens line up might not be able to maximize it. Maybe they are all reading from the same blog... hmm.. My unfounded theory is that it will look soft because its BIG. If you scale it down to maybe 12 mp it will look sharper than say actual 12mp sensor results. Anyone care to enlighten me.. |

QUOTE(sherdil @ Apr 28 2012, 04:34 AM) Is it really worth the extra cash if i sell my D700 and get a D800, i am not interested in the video. I did exactly that. No regret coughing up the extra dough. The astounding level of details is simply spectacular. Anyone sold their d700 and got a D800,is it better? Last night's stargazing session: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

QUOTE(celciuz @ Apr 29 2012, 01:05 AM) Actually, my main upgrade points from D700 to D800 would be the 100% VF and new AF module which is supposedly better than D700's. The viewfinder seems brighter than the D700. AF focusing is better too. Even in very dim light (at least you need to find something with a little contrast), I find it still can focus but there's still hits and misses. |
