Hi All,
what do u all think?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

it is dust or oil spot? i get this from my D7000.
i raise this problem to nikon malaysia n they feedback me is a dust. i try to use a blower to blow it but it did not help at all.
They say going to charge me 60+ for the cleaning.

since the camera will be send in to nikon, what else i can ask them to check for me since the camera still in warranty.

I also have this. Mine is at the top left, whatever I do, it just won't go off, cotton bud clean the sensor, mirror, whatever, it's still there. Definitely not the lens as the dot is there when I look through the viewfinder without a lens.
u no plan to sent it back for cleaning?

too bad toungue cant clean this..
hahaha...

so, what else i can ask them to do?
- regular check and maintenance?
- servicing?

the SC only around 4100.
what actually worry me is when it return and after some shooting, the thing come back again.

nikon 85mm got larger working distance, but its DX only lens.
both are just as sharp.
so its your choice.
*
both are so close...really hard to decide.

where got hard to decide?
wallet already says tamron is better choice.

but if u really think ur going to stick with DX lenses, u should also look at the tamron 60mm f/2.0.
basically same working distance as the 90mm, since the 60mm doesnt extend.
and it can obviously also be used as an alternative to a 50mm 1.8.
*
sorry for the noob question.
can i know what is the working distance u referring to? it is the "Minimum Focus Distance"?

wont be the 60mm is not enough power for really close up picture?

What do u plan to use it for? I hv tamron sp af 90 on my d3100. It is very sharp for macro but the AF motor inside is not as fast as those prime lens or any nikkor lenses la. You can feel it is a bit slower. tongue.gif

I dunno much about the 85mm micro though ..would love to test it one day... or I might as well fund for upgrade to 105mm micro in the future ..hehehe. (evil laugh)
*
mainly for macro shoot only

working distance is from the front of the lens to subject at 1:1.
iirc both tamron 60mm and 90mm are about 10cm, its cos the 90mm extends out so robbing some distance.

the nikon 85mm is about 14-15cm as it doesnt extend.
*
any formula to calculate the working distance.
thanks for much, this is really new info for me. i thought the important part just the minimum focus distance

Anyone know the different between tamrom sp90 with n without built-in motor?
it is true that that one without motor is better? What is the benefit to have manual aperture ring?

from what i've heard, if your  body has a motor, ie. D50, D90 and above, then the sp90 without motor will focus faster.
other than that, theres no other difference.
i think the sp90 available here all got no aperture ring, and only really useful if u got film bodies.

Thanks for the info.

probably urs wasnt serious, so they cleaned it.
mine after few thousand shots of high fps, it appeared.
nikon replaced my shutter unit when i brought it to them after 10k sc...so far no issues already.

u go back to the pj one, talk to decward.
*
at last my one was not send out to nikon for cleaning.
the shop where i bought the camera say just small matter n he did the cleaning for me FOC.
in my heart i tell myself, if this happen again then i will insist him to send to nikon.

How much do they charge? Mine warranty lapsed oredi.

Anyway, I still have the receipt of the last cleaning job. Can I show them the receipt and say I should get this done for free since it's Nikon's fault?
*

after very long time reading and surveying. i bought the tamron SP90 at last. I tested the nikon 85mm F3.5 mikro but it not really impress me.

the unit i get is a 2nd hand one without built-in motor. in the box saw the warranty card is a local set and sold out on year 2008. but somehow the lens still look new and good.

first attempt to shoot macro.

hi all,
i own these both lens
tokina 11-16 with 77mm filter size
tamron 17-50 with 67mm filter size

i was thinking to get a CPL filter, which option should i go if i only can buy one
1. 77mm + step up ring 72-77 so both lens can use (not sure possible or not)
2. 72mm CPL only n ignore the tokina
3. 77mm CPL only n ignore the tamron

hope to hear from you all smile.gif

I would get the 77mm then if need only get step up ring.

77mm and the step up ring...

that way both your lens can use it right? and most pro grade lens you upgrade to ultimately uses a 77mm... normally...

not sure in what mm only not exceed more than 90 degree Field of View.
Ring CPL effect only cover up to 90 degree of view

this happens in ultra wide focal length mostly

or d7000 with kit lens?
*
if u think u will settle down with 5100 n wont go deeper into photography...then go ahead...
last time i also buy 5100 and in 3 months time i trade in n change d7000...waste more money at the end

I am the one get d5100 with 18-55 n then sell off everything n upgrade to d7000 within 3 months. Reason is simple, we hardly satisfy tongue.gif
the only thing I miss on the d5100 is it had lighter body n the swirl LCD.
If u still confused with to take, just go to the shop n play both camera. U will definitely like the extra dial n buttons on the d7000 in future.
The 18-105 kit lens from d7000 is a good all rounder lens. Best for the events that u mentioned smile.gif

Well, let me chip in my view,

I started off with D5100 with kit lens, kit lens great, but the moment i try 50mm 1.8g, i get hooked with the 1.8 and bokeh, so much so i naively believe that 50mm will be sufficient for everything, which prompt me to sold off my kit lens 18-55.

Then one fine day i go company outing, im being ask by my boss to take group photo because i seems to be the one with DSLR. With only 50mm, i blush so hard and in the end, i use my fren Nikon Coolpix to capture the photo. From there onwards i understand, 50mm by itself, cannot fit to every situation.

I bought 17-55 2.8 soon afterwards.

Then im being ask by my senior to help cover one of the company sponsor sport event, i realize i need a longer lens, so that i can shoot them from far.

Then i bought 105 f2.8 after the event.

Then with anticipation for FX camera, i sold off my 17-55 and bought 16-35mm F4 instead.

Then i complaint my DSLR too heavy for all occasion, feel like wanting something lighter so that i can carry everyday and for street photography, I bought Fuji X100 soon after that.

The Moral of the story is: Photography is a never ending, non satisfy, egolistic hobby, understand what you want, get what you need, and spend what you can.

i like this smile.gif it almost same as mine

Lolol. So I'm still.confused
Buy d5100 together with what? 50mm or 35mm? sad.gif and should the 18-55 kits lens be taken?
*
if budget really allow smile.gif ,go this n hurt one time.
D7000 kit(18-105) rm4250 free 8gb bag and 1 more 50mm lens f1.8d worth rm400

2nd option - D5100 and upgrade the kit lens to 18-105mm by top up some money

3rd option - get a used D5100 or D7000, look around n you will find out a lot of good deal.

sad.gif owh~ cuz i was reading somewhere about the sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 and some reviews say the lens is not overly sharp.. of course not expecting stellar performance, but they say the DOF is curved instead of being straight..

so they say even though the objects lies in the parallel to the sensor.. the corner objects may not be in focus even though the centre object is in focus.. is this claim true? is it a deal-breaker in actual shooting? or am i just looking at very trivial problems? i actually interested in the tokina 11-16.. but my camera have no motor to test the AF.. otherwise need borrow people's camera to test during COD sad.gif
*
the tokina 11-16 is like a "prime" lens...you will mad.gif mad.gif sometime when u try to zoom more when u need it...
