may be ChinaSat 6B at 115.5°E, lots of channels from china, how big is your dish, you may need 1.8m dish for this satellite to receive complete channels

or Palapa D at 113.0°E, lots of indo channels, 1.5m dish

pointing you dish to the right satellite is quite involved, pick you satellite first then do the next step: calculate the satellite dish angles

you can pick a satellite here http://www.lyngsat.com/asia.html

go to this list http://www.lyngsat.com/asia.html
look inside each satellite, then click on transponder footprint, if it's beam cover over malaysia, then you can receive the channel

so what sort of channels are you interested in watching? these Free-to-ar channels are very limited in selection, some avalable channels are in language such as Siam, Indo, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkian, Hakka, Indian, Pakistan, ......

are there any thing like motorized rotating motor like the one used on rotating antenna that can be installed on the dish so that we can adjust the dish without climbing on the roof?I actually thinking of pointing my dish to Thaicom5.

yes there is, but is a bit pricey, this motorised add-on you can ask your installer, I think it is readily available in Thailand

but the trend now is to install multiple dishes each pointing to separate satellite, then hook up all the dishes to a DiSEqC switch

those dreambox thing is for watching encrypted channel

for motorised dish I don't know much about it, I think you need to change the whole dish and decoder, ask your installer

magic box? what is that?

If you want to DIY pointing to another satellite, I may help you a bit, but as I said in previous post, it is a bit involved, not for the faint-hearted

as for English FTA channels, quite a lot in asiasat 3s, other satellite such as Intelsat 8 at 166.0°E got 2 channels only: BBC world news and Australian network channel, very limited selection

or subscribe to astro, plenty of english channels

Lyngsat is a good site to check on the available channels including free to air channels.

First you have to check if you are using C-band or KU-band LNB.

You only need to use motor if you plan to receive signals from different satellite transponder. In order to use motor, you got to have a universal decoder that support this. I have seen people installing both C-band and Ku-band LNB on a motorized antenna.

ASTRO decoder is a very basic unit. You can't use this to watch channels other than ASTRO.

wow, the second photo is very special. I don't understand this setup. rclxub.gif .
Are you trying to get three different transponder with different positioning of LNBs on a single antenna? The offset antenna has a focal point where the signal is optimum. Signals are degraded when the LNB are not placed at the focal point. With the small Astro dish, I wonder how good is the receiving signals especially when weather turns bad with Ku-band.

You can DIY. The 3 LNB on 1 dish from the right pic is pointing to 3 satellites. Usually people do this to get NSS6, Measat3 and Thaicom5 using 1 dish

You can only use astro decoder to receive measat3 signal. For other sats, you have to use other type of decoder.

You can look around, saw people selling them in lelong, mudah and even lyn garage sales (long time ago. I dont think mod approve since it can be used to get illegal pay TV). 2 of the most popular brands are Dreambox and Openbox(openbox=skybox=yumy same internal hardware/interface/system only different name)

Actually looking at all the 3 satelite services NSS6, Thaicom5 and Measet3

Measet 3/3a has the most HD channels (none for NSS6 and Thaicom5 only 2 both Thai TV)

ALL HD CHANNELS Available on Measet 3/3a:-

Discovery HD World India
We TV
Life Inspired
Food Network Asia
Sundance Channel Asia
All Sports Network
I-concerts
Sky News HD
NBA TV
Fashion Wild
Unitel Classica Asia
High TV (HD 3D)
SET One
AXN HD Asia
Travel Channel HD Asia
Fashion One (USA)
History HD Asia
Eurosport Pacific
Cartoon Network South East Asia
Fox Asia
Star World Philippines
TVN Asia
Fox Family Movies
Nat Geo Wild Asia
National Geographic Channel HD Asia
Edge Sports
Star Cricket
ESPN India

I think most people like me will just happy to get the above HD channels from the byond decoder and dish.

Now i need someone to help me to adjust the dish and make the decoder works again without buying dreambox or illegal card sharing.

(i already sent astro card to astro as per their requirement so now no card in the slot)

Wait if the dish already adjusted to get astro previously before i terminated them, i dont have to do anything right coz astro using Measat3? So how to activate the decoder?

You can use either the old grey dish or the new beyond dish for Thaicom5 Ku and NSS6 Ku. Well maybe beyond dish for NSS6 since the signal is weaker compared to Thaicom5.

Some of the channel on Measat 3 that you've listed are not available on astro for example Fashion TV, Life Inspired, High TV etc. These channel are broadcasted using Measat3 C band while astro is using Ku band. For C band you need to use bigger dish such as 5-6 ft dish and unless you're in some remote kampung place or in Sabah/Sarawak it will hard to hide the big dish and MCMC will come knocking on your door.

For astro decoder you need the card otherwise it wont work. Just plug in the cable from your dish to your decoder, insert your smart card and you're good to go provided the card is activated. And those C band signal from measat cannot be received through astro decoder, you need dreambox or openbox + bigger dish.

So you're saying even after we terminated astro byond, dont send the card and still can activate these channels?

Or if i understand correctly astro decoder is useless after we terminated astro?

Yes, Astro decoder is useless after you terminated their service. That box is a stripped down to basic decoder.

Obviously the signals are going to take a hit compared to using 1 LNB per dish. However they are still quite good and able to receive HD channels perfectly for all 3 satellites. Since NSS6 is the weakest among those 3, the dish will be aligned towards NSS6 rather than Measat3 to have maximum gain.

I don't think they do aerial survey, but your jealous neighbour might report on you to MCMC. Try to hide your big dish from public eye if you install one.

For watching Measat3 or any other satellites, the cheapest with HD capability is openbox variants. If Dreambox, DM800 series, DM500 series does not support HD.

To maximize the 5ft antenna, it will be good that you install both C-band and Ku-band LNB to enjoy more channels. Nowadays there should be less and less TV channels on C-band as the available spectrum is smaller compared to Ku-band and the bigger antenna requirement at user end. This is more costly for both service provider and customer with the only benefit of less susceptible to rain fade.

Lol why i hv to go through these 'boxes" again? I thought this thread is about a new way to make use the old terminated astro byond decoder and dish.

Btw when i queried about openbox and dreambox last time they stressed that NO astrobyond hd channels. so i assumed no HD channels for these card sharing boxes. RM30 per month with all astro SD channels but not HD. Now you suggest these boxes again.

I donot want astro channels! I think most people want is free HD channels from these satelites

I donot want astro channels! I think most people want is free HD channels from these satelites

Astro byond decoder is useless after you've terminated the service. These "boxes" are not only for card sharing but can also receive Free to Air (FTA) channels broadcasted from many satellites flying over our country.

You can use back your byond dish to get any Ku band beams such as from Thaicom5 and NSS6. There are currently about 2-3 FTA Test HD channel on Thaicom5 Ku band and a few SD channels. NSS6 Ku band used to have 5-6 FTA HD channels but maybe they're now encrypted. Most of good stuff you are encrypted and you have to subscribe to their services or resort to illegal card sharing.

For C band, you have no choice but to use bigger dish. There are FTA channels on Measat 3 C band such as RTM TV1, RTM TV1 HD, Fashion One HD etc. Asiasat 5 C band also have a few FTA channels. Asiasat5 Ku band got a few FTA HD but maybe those who live in northern area can receive the signal.

Here are some sats that can be locked from our country:
Measat 3/3a
Thaicom 5
NSS 6
ST1 & ST2
Palapa D
Vinasat 1
Asiasat 3s
Asiasat 5
SES 7
Telkom 1

Oh by the way, you are correct about HD channel from astro byond not available from card sharing since the byond smart card is paired with the byond decoder. But you can still get HD channel from other sats such as Thaicom 5, SES 7 etc through card sharing or FTA.

to check the footprint of the satellites. Google map style. Just point your location and it will show you the minimum dish size, azimuth, elevation etc.

Ok say i opted for all free HD channels and not astro, can these "box" sellers allow to just sell the box* without that card sharing monthly payment?

*with installation including dish adjustment to receive signals.

I agree. But then, Astro is too arrogant and corrupted, TM is too slow in rollout, DETV has lousy procurement officer...

FineTV and ABN are in another time zone...

Was wondering, if I bring my Astro Byond decoder + an active smart card (legal one), can I watch Astro from Bangkok?

What else do I need?

I know I will need a satellite dish, but what kind and what size of dish?

I was told Ku Band Dish should be sufficient, but from the
[ http://www.satbeams.com/footprints ]
it shows that I will need a C Band Dish with

[ Reception details
EIRP level = 40 dBW
Recommended dish size = 150cm / 59.1in ]

but I also read somewhere that our Astro Byond decoder are not compatible with C-Band dish?

Can some one help me?

Woo~ Pro man. rclxms.gif This is really professional technical installations~

By the way, I turn to my satellite at JCSAT-2A position hard to receive satellite signal leh. That positions mostly Taiwan channels~ Did you all guy receive on that positions channels? Please let me know, expert~ icon_question.gif

Another things is.... Did you all guy who sells satellite smartcard (NOT the astro smartcard)? More and more channels has been scrambled and need insert smart card to view the channels mad.gif And less Free air TV in nowsadays.
