hey guys, I went to the education fair in Midvalley today.. after having my ambitions to study dentistry crushed with a C+ for my SPM chemistry.. but I still can't think of any course that would interest me as much as dentistry.. even after looking around

.. spoke to a guy from President College today.. the counselor told me to retake my SPM... just the chemistry paper, and the result will replace my C+ with something else, probably giving me a B and above... then only I can go for Dentistry OR medicine (but not interested in medicine) is that true? Can only retake one paper?

So what should I do? Is there any other options to enter dentistry other than retaking my SPM? is C+ really not accepted in any IPTS in Malaysia? Need to decide this before 31st of March.. so please reply! Thanks!

i think yes..yes you can retake 1 paper.

yes u have other choice beside taken chemistry. if your father rich, throw in some money and you may enroll in some private medical collage such as IMU for dentistry.

I think most foundations will require credits in related subjects (which is a C) whereas A-levels require any 5 credits (which you already have).

It really depends on the college you are about to enroll into.

You can retake only one paper.

But I have a question: shouldn't A-Level or STPM result more important than your current SPM result? If you obtain an A for it, wouldn't the C+ be ignored? Besides, getting a C+ is eligible for pursuing A-Level/STPM (it's above C, after all).

My friend retook Chemistry paper before she went to India to pursue BDS. I think it depends on the college and the university you are going after all. You went to the fair today, did you just talk to President College only? What about the other colleges said?

The basic requirement is 5Bs at SPM including sciences, thereafter at least 3Bs at foundation or pre-u.

You can check with the colleges that offer dentistry n foundation courses n ask them if you sign up for foundation in science AND at the same time resit the paper n pass both later, will you be considered for selection. Bear in mind that even if you qualify for selection, you may not get a place due to stiff competition.

the requirement of having at least b4 in the 5 science/maths subjects at spm is a ruling by the mmc for critical courses......

they needed to do so, to prevent very mediocre students from entering these courses....because selection in ipts/3rd world foreign unis is based on money, not qualification.....

nobody knows what's the implication if one without that minimum graduates somewhere and wants to register to work in msia....there are thousands in this situation before the guideline was issued last year.....

So it is possible to retake only one subject, right? Going to PPD tomorrow to ask...

the new grade will replace my previous grade, right?

Yes can retake one subject but why not take A-levels or Sam because they all take Credits in. Then you study hard for Pre-U as they are more valuable than SPM results.

Thanks man, I'm sorry if this would seem a little rude, but how did you get Band 5 for MUET? Is MUET really that easy? Because I see your English is having a lot of grammatical errors. sweat.gif

Yaya! Absolutely agree. Don't bother about retaking SPM. Just go forward to take your STPM or A level or any Foundation that allows you to go into the university you want to enroll for dentistry. Hope it helps smile.gif

Ya... so he has to find Foundation that accepts his result and make sure the university for his degree accepts the Foundation smile.gif Btw, A level and STPM do look at SPM's result, just that they might be more lenient smile.gif

Hahaha, u r right, I am not good in writing. I remember my result for muet is listening(35/45), speaking(38/45) and reading(100/120) except for writing (47/90) sweat.gif . So, the total of my muet's score is 220 marks which is exactly band 5, maybe lucky la. Perhaps u r right, I should improve my english.... Anyway, bro, u should think forward, even u retake chemistry in spm, u should take it seriously. I think u already know la, even though A-level or stpm can score well but they still have to check for your spm result whether u fulfill minimum criteria for medicine, dentistry or pharmacy. As for the muet is no easy, most of my friend got band 3 even they study medicine. Just study hard, bro. And thanks for your advice. smile.gif

Not really la, after I finished my foundation in july, then I sat for my spm as a private candidate last year lo. So, at least got plenty of time to study. That means u know lo I had delayed for one year coz intake for dentistry is in september sweat.gif Maybe the standard for private candidate spm is same as school level. I remember they will send your spm result slip through the post after few days of spm result day. After that, I applied dentistry in private college and I got the offer letter. That is my experience lo, hehe. Don't worry about it, bro, I'm sure that you can do better than me coz u only retake 1 subject and u're a smart people ma, hahaha smile.gif

Hey bro, I would like to reassure with you. So you retake all the three papers after getting your foundation results? Don't you face any problem with MQA pertaining this matter? By the way, which college you studied your foundation?
Because now I'm planning to take foundation in sc in one of the IPTS but there's a twist. I got a C for my Biology and I've already registered to resit for my Bio paper this Nov, but wait there's a twist.. I called up MQA to clarify some doubts and I were told I could not enter any foundation programme without fulfilling the minimum requirement of 5B's or else I would be penalized. So now my question is how did you get yourself into the foundation program and now getting the offer letter to enroll in August for BDS? How it is possible? I'm so uncertain now, I need to know how you went through the process..

Hey so i really am quite desperate for information now. I got a D for my BM in 2013 spm but good results for the rest but my parents didn't allow me to choose so they forced me to re take my BM paper thinking i wouldn't get a scholarship. But if i were to retake the paper now which is november i know i will fail it so to keep my scholarship i want to know how do i cancel my paper that i already registered to retake in november. im from selangor btw.

those who did not satisfy spm grade rules for critical courses, just do a full pre-u like a levels, sam/ausmat, ib, stpm.....and that result will over-ride....no need resit spm papers.....

What are you asking for?

If you plan to go for Diploma in Private University, as long you get a minimum 5 credits ©
Should be fine.

For Computer Science courses, remember to take Add Maths. Or your pre-U / Diploma should have the equivalent subject.

For Degree, they will still look at your Pre-U Results or Diploma.
I personally scored badly in my A-Levels in Pre-U, which was C and D for Physics and Maths, and enrolled into Electrical Engineering in 2017.
Still performed well enough with 3.80/4.00 CGPA in my 3rd year there laugh.gif

Just check your university entry requirements.
