Why the heck do so many Japanese anime feature Malaysia?

Also why does that monkey riding the motobike look so pissed?

It's a good thing~ Can help to promote Malaysia~ a little bit maybe....

I dunno. Was just watching a documentary on the Japanese Occupation.
Their level of knowledge and interest in Malaysia just makes me..... nervous.

I'm guessing Malaysia is now exotic by Japanese standards. Anime has featured US/Europe/China/India so often I guess they just got tired of it.

got this anime called Windy Tales that featured Malacca. But the scenery of Malacca pictured in the anime is just too...historical like in 1950s. Probably because they also knew that Malacca IS 'bandar bersejarah' eventhough nowadays Malacca already well developed and became a 'bandaraya'.

A lot of miyazaki is euro-centric look. might be right that it has been played to death.
not sure about the others tho, US got meh?

once i saw a comic book depict modern day singapore like that too.
