Just done a photo shoot with a totally inexperienced girl to try out the new camera. The reaction time for the a77 is fantastic!! EVF and live view and tilt screen combo is really a win! I also love the face detection and DMF! Also tried out the various picture styles.. Seems rather interesting especially the retro and toy camera laugh.gif

Cool!! U will love it more! anyway I hv yet to try this DMF... cry.gif
*
Why don wan to try? hmm.gif maybe not so much use in landscapes though.

By the way do you guys know that you can autofocus during the transition between EVF and live view? So let's say if suddenly got a movin object coming towards your way you could already AF before lifting it to your eyes. With face detection on you should be able to nail the shot without back focusing. Have yet to try though. This is just my theory. laugh.gif

I miss the dedicated button/switch for metering though...now have to dive into menu to activate it.. not a big hassle though..

Added on April 12, 2012, 1:56 pmchanged the AEL button to metering instead. biggrin.gif

Unlike a300 with 41 segment, the a77 has full sensor 1200zone metering. How accurate can u get? Leaving it at full matrix metering rocks, anything else, the dro will help brighten up.

And, AND, if face detection detected a face, the metering prioritizes the face metering! How greater can it get?

That's what u been missing le zstan.... And that what's everyone doesn't know bout Sony tech.

EvanKeat: DMF replaces AF-A (arguably, it should be on AF-S).

I'll be coming for the TT but dang it's early for a Sunday! Will bring my 135mm STF and Samyang 35mm F1.4.

zstan: I find AEL/Spot Metering redundant with an EVF camera - you already can see if something is underexposed and quickly turn the rear dial to change EV! (If you have set this.)

lwliam: Would be quite cool for Megatron's head to be floating in darkness.
*
too bad sometimes its A BIT unreliable especially shooting under bright sunlight and with your subject facing behind the sun.

QUOTE(lwliam @ Apr 12 2012, 05:22 PM)
Yup, exactly... the face priority function works wonders... its like running on full auto pilot.. just need to adjust exp compensation to taste.

And as for the AEL toggle, instead of dialing in the exp compensation by lots of turns, one click on the AEL will immediately jumps to the approximate of where you want the exposure to be, and a click or two of exp compensation will get it into place.

Added on April 12, 2012, 5:24 pm

How is that a bit unreliable? Clearly you've not used your A77 in those situations enough yet, you'll soon learn that it's so much easier to get it right the 1st time with EVF.

and i think what you meant was "subject's back facing the sun", you can't be BEHIND the sun wink.gif
*
yes most of the time its accurate but there are times when it doesnt meter what i what.

QUOTE(ieR @ Apr 12 2012, 05:25 PM)
thats when the real AEL function comes in, just set the AEL to spot AEL, and go new the person u wan to shoot, (the middle spot) point on one of the face, AEL! and u lock a perfectly exposured face! then compose your work at that (face)ambient.

when u spot lock the face, the metering (what 17%? grey thingie) will always expose the face nicely. since human face is about (17%? grey in greyscale)

that whats u been missing with pro body, spot AEL.
*
Thanks for the spot AEL tip! changed the AEL to spot AEL smile.gif

albnok what i meant was the camera has the tendency (i think all cameras have this tendency) to underexpose the subject and compensate for the background instead of the other way around. that's why spot metering is needed to get an accurate exposure quickly.

____________

Test shots from a77. Was playing around with the retro mode. HDR painting as well as toy camera. All OOC JPEGS. Model is totally inexperienced as well. Had to guide her for every step. C & C welcomed.

holy shi- i just realised the a77 centre AF point allows me to get absolute accurate focus on a white wall as well my black coloured bag without much difficulties where as the side AF points completely fail to lock at all!

am i slowpoke? unsure.gif unsure.gif

Ok did another simple test. I just realised the AF assist light will only be triggered while using the centre zone/centre AF. side AF points the red light won't light up. Maybe that's why it can lock much better.

what is the normal price of UV filter for 50mm/ 55mm lens? smile.gif

Does filter helps much in photography?
*
50mm can mean a lot of lenses with different filter threads. which one are you referring to?

It only helps to protect your front lens element, nothing more than that.
