Hi guys,

I am selected for a "technical assessment" session with Petronas Carigali on coming Tuesday. I am just wondering this description sounds different from what other forumers here have mentioned i.e. i read in this forum that others have mentioned about structured interview and role playing. Anybody here heard about 'technical assessment'? I am a process eng with 2 years+ exp. Thanks for your help.

Youre chinese right? Em... just smile a lot - you will pass if the malay interviewer like you - try to speak as much malay loghat as possible and show that you are fasih bermelayu and you dont need anything else.

(speaking from experience as an ex-Petronas staff KLCC tower 1)

Technical interview means you will be asked technical questions mostly related to the work you have done. If you're a process engineer, some questions regarding that will be asked as well.

Dont worry. Carigali is lacking people. And they are trying to get non-bumis to join them too. So just answer as best as possible. And be honest, just admit if you dont know any of the topics. You have only 2 years exp so I think they are looking for fresh faces to start their career with the company.
I think the problem is not trying to join them, but to continue working there. Office politics, getting transferred to outside KL, etc. is more challenging. My two cents only, but good luck ya?

i've spoken to HR person, they told me that this position for project construction basically in east malaysia..
they divide to 3 type of project..hook up, commissioning & fabrication..
so new hire engineer will be place into 3 of this project..

Is it PCSB? If yes..maybe for their Dulang Field, ..the flow will be Fabrication (at any yard in Peninsula), hook-up (offshore) & commissioning (offshore)..usually for PCSB, they will attached in in the project from start (detail desgn) till end..

My 2cents opininon..Construction Engineer Scope will be somethin like this..To Monitor Construction Progress..it is more likely to Project Engineer..but u have to master the foundation of Fabrication & installation of structure equipment, , like preparation of site, PTW, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), HIRAD, safety, preparation of Fabrication Site like soil study, wing beam, weighing, lifting activities and familiar with all those cranes at Fab Yard (crawler, boom).., sail away, load out, deal Offshore Installation Contractor (OIC) like Sapura, TL OFfshore, once enter hook up phase, preparation of work pack, job card, lifting, deal with OIC.. monitor progress of Hook Up by Commissioning Contractor like Petra,Dayang, Kencana Pinewell..

Hi, everyone, recently i do attend the TA interview and after two weeks was informed to attend the SI interview. Last week i get the call from Petronas said i pass the SI but they can't offer the salary i expect. They only able to give the salary same as my current salary. I told him to asked the management is it able to revise the salary higher abit since it will be high cost if living in KL. However, since that day i haven't receive any call or e-mail from them again. Is it consider they don't want me any more? Is it too much for a 6 years experience person to have a salary of RM10k/month? I'm very keen to join Petronas since the post they offer me will give me chance to expose to new working field and deal with all knowledgible person. Quite dilema...

I thought all claims now go into the salary slip? I know when I was there before, the claims are tax free but I think or heard that it has been changed and that it goes direct to your payslip (which means that it will be taxable).

Dont worry, it takes time for them to prepare your offer letter, there's a lot of process..
I dont think they can offer RM10k for 6 years experience unless you are specialist or the position/skills is really urgent. BTW, did they told u bout ur salary grade?E1 or E2? Then you have to adjust ur salary based on that.

10K for 6 years experience will be difficult. If a fresh grads gets 4K in Petronas, assuming that he gets 10% a year merit increment, he can only double his salary to 8K in 7 years. 6 years experience qualifies for an E2 position which probably starts at 6.5 to 7K

E3 maybe you can get 10K

Yeah, that's what they told me the max they can offer is 8k+.. In my current company, i believe in next two year i can have 10k+, but i prefer to join Petronas because of the job they offer is T&E department. I heard friend from petronas said this department all people are experience and is giving technical consultation to Petronas. I believe i will have brighter future if i in this department and i quite technical ethusiam. happy.gif

Hey. I'm a Sarawakian and will be going to KL tomorrow for SI on Thursday. I'm not sure where your interview will be. You should probably give them a call rather than waiting for their invitation email.

Sabahan will be most likely placed at SBO (sabah operation), as SBO only hires sabahan as its staff, should you passed the interview.

As for the venue, give SBO a call asking them where would it be. Last time I asked, SBO would conduct the interview on its own, hence it would be at its office at KK.

But rest assured, should the interview being held at KLCC, Petronas will reimburse your flight ticket, to-and-fro sabah.

Good luck! There is not much you can do now as it is too late for you to prepare, if you normally follow the news around the world, have a wide general knowledge and know how to talk your way out then you are pretty much fine. smile.gif

Greetings....1st of all...i dont know if this is the right place to ask but i ask anyway....because im so desperate to know my luck with my last interview....i was selected to attend an interview at petronas carigali for electrical technician position in MAY 2012....the interview when pretty smooth....i managed to answer the majority of the question asked by them plus minor silly mistake.... sweat.gif ....anyway....the HR said that the result will be out after 3 month....i thought that is too long to wait so give the HR a call after a month...it turn out that...im one of the RECOMMENDED candidate...BUT I NEED TO WAIT FOR VACANCY..by the way, i just graduated from INSTEP (CERT/ 2 years)......so my questions :-

1. RECOMMENDED BUT NEED TO WAIT FOR VACANCY.... should i believe this and wait OR i just move on to another interview...

2. should the 1st question turn out to be true....how long usually i have to wait before i can join the company...

inviting all " OTAI / GURUS " to spend some time to pour in some insight....recommendations / suggestions are also welcome...

1. True. It's their HR's unique plus different-from-others style of work.

2. In my case, 6 months.
The lucky ones took one month. Some took years. Some took forever.
The trick is: Keep praying. Keep calling. Keep asking. Don't let them forget about you.

How long after the SI do you know you've passed for the next round? I was told there are three rounds, with the SI being the second round.

Got a call from petronas cari gali last Wednesday for technical/functional interview. Got a day to prepare. But since such short notice, and nit sure what is the job description, could not prepare much. Interview took about 1 hour. Since im sort of a fresh grad, could not blabber much about experience. The only thing I did was be myself. Spontaneously answer their questions. The next day got a call from the hr congratulating me for passing that stage and inquiring if I would be available for SI the following week, which is tomorrow. Keeping fingers cross because from goggling ... read that it compromise of case study, role play, etc . Still don't really know what to prepare !!

Just done my SI this morning, just be prepared MENTALLY, they just like to shoot everything just like Tony Fernandes in The Apprentice..

And my advise, try to understand the question given.. Defend your point until the end heheh

Hope for the best~

Hey guys. it was a good read from the start...

I've got an invitation for the Technical Assessment (TA) from Group Technology Solutions (GTS) this 28feb.

anyone has attended that before?

ps: worth mentioning here - I don't know how they identified me for the shortlisted category, but I did check the discoverpetronas - still "In Progress" right from the application last Aug2013.
