Hi guys,

I am selected for a "technical assessment" session with Petronas Carigali on coming Tuesday. I am just wondering this description sounds different from what other forumers here have mentioned i.e. i read in this forum that others have mentioned about structured interview and role playing. Anybody here heard about 'technical assessment'? I am a process eng with 2 years+ exp. Thanks for your help.

Youre chinese right? Em... just smile a lot - you will pass if the malay interviewer like you - try to speak as much malay loghat as possible and show that you are fasih bermelayu and you dont need anything else.

(speaking from experience as an ex-Petronas staff KLCC tower 1)

Technical interview means you will be asked technical questions mostly related to the work you have done. If you're a process engineer, some questions regarding that will be asked as well.

Dont worry. Carigali is lacking people. And they are trying to get non-bumis to join them too. So just answer as best as possible. And be honest, just admit if you dont know any of the topics. You have only 2 years exp so I think they are looking for fresh faces to start their career with the company.
I think the problem is not trying to join them, but to continue working there. Office politics, getting transferred to outside KL, etc. is more challenging. My two cents only, but good luck ya?

i've spoken to HR person, they told me that this position for project construction basically in east malaysia..
they divide to 3 type of project..hook up, commissioning & fabrication..
so new hire engineer will be place into 3 of this project..

Is it PCSB? If yes..maybe for their Dulang Field, ..the flow will be Fabrication (at any yard in Peninsula), hook-up (offshore) & commissioning (offshore)..usually for PCSB, they will attached in in the project from start (detail desgn) till end..

My 2cents opininon..Construction Engineer Scope will be somethin like this..To Monitor Construction Progress..it is more likely to Project Engineer..but u have to master the foundation of Fabrication & installation of structure equipment, , like preparation of site, PTW, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), HIRAD, safety, preparation of Fabrication Site like soil study, wing beam, weighing, lifting activities and familiar with all those cranes at Fab Yard (crawler, boom).., sail away, load out, deal Offshore Installation Contractor (OIC) like Sapura, TL OFfshore, once enter hook up phase, preparation of work pack, job card, lifting, deal with OIC.. monitor progress of Hook Up by Commissioning Contractor like Petra,Dayang, Kencana Pinewell..

They will call you to inform the status and e-mail..but for my case, I got the result (not formal) right after the interview..Formal result by Hr personnel takes two weeks for me..
