Just curious, how many parents out there let their babies sleep using the sarong or baby hammock that uses spring?

My LO is kinda refusing to sleep during the day and he is only 5 weeks old. If we carry him, then he sleeps, but when put him down on the bed, he wakes up. Aiyoh....go toilet also not free... rclxub.gif

oh ok, ok. hehe. nope, both my children didnt use it, my mum advised me not to, it will be troublesome when you go travelling with your baby, he won't be able to sleep without it. anyway, swaddling usually helps newborns to sleep better.

For afternoon naps, nothing beats an old springy sarong in action.

I also think don't wanna give my baby sarong cause easier to move around but my mom is spoiling my baby. Now, my baby is fussy and wants to be carried when napping. Aiyoh and my mom is dangling the sarong temptation at my face like the forbidden apple.

Heh...I don't wanna give up but my will is getting weaker tongue.gif

Dont be silly. Use sarong.

Benefits:
1. Makes the child sleeps better because of the position. (felt more secure).
2. If the child sleeps better, will be healthier, hence grows better.
3. The parents will also gets more sleep.
4. The child heads will also be rounder.

Of course, you have this problem to have to take the sarong with you but who bothers cause you wont be travelling that much with a child too. Best, get a set at your parents and in-laws places.

You can train the child to sleep on the mattress later. Not difficult.

My mom used sarong during day time for all my nieces and nephews. When they sleep well, they are happier and cheerful comparing to those with less sleep, will be grumpy and always crying.

However, at night, my mom will put them to sleep in the sarong first and transfer them back to baby cot once they are sleeping deeply. Hence they are trained well to sleep in the baby cot as well.

As for traveling, we went to Hong Kong last Dec with my nephew (9 months old in Dec), and he seemed to adapt well and didn't even miss the sarong for a week plus. I guess he's conditioned to sleep in the baby cot at night. smile.gif

I give my 1st daughter to sleep sarong when she was 1month old until 1year old we manage to put her sleep on the bed in the afternoon without using sarong.
Try to avoid using sarong during night time otherwise the baby will too used to sarong and won't able to sleep themself on the bed.

Awesome. Thanks for the advice. Now i don't have to feel so guilty if I ever (most likely) give in to the sarong temptation.
I am taking care of the baby by myself so if I really can't cope, I might just go get one. smile.gif

5 weeks old baby can use the sarong, just make sure you dont use the spring too vigourously. Slowly move side to side is ok.

i give sarong to my boy since 4 weeks
he can sleep better and longer
during materity period, he only can sleep the most 1 hour and usually is half hour. he very easy get to cry.
when sleep on sarong, maybe feel secure, maybe feel no so hot compare with mattress, he could sleep to 2 hours. when wake up, play well, always smile. exactly after 2 hours he will need to sleep again.
as i m cersus, it give me more time to rest and hv great time with my bb.
but we train him to sleep sarong only afternoon, night time will be direct to bed.
now 2 yrs old, when he tired, will take his pillow go to the bed and ask for milk. then he will sleep himself. sometime afternoon, he will sleep on the sofa and will carry him to the bed.

I call it 'buaian,' literally, meaning 'swing.' And I have no problems of shifting my baby (who's now 4, btw) to sleep on the bed (so this was AGES ago). Daytime, sleep in the swing, night, sleep on the bed. Worst case scenario, we let him sleep in the swing first, once he's fast asleep, transfer him to the bed.

Plus point, it's a lot cooler sleeping in the buaian compared to sleeping on the bed, and my son was the sweaty type.

It's not as hard to teach them to shift to sleep on the bed, but that may just be my kids...

An advice though, since the swing or sarong moves around (or up and down), if your child is bottle-fed, do monitor the baby ever so often. The child may choke... And, I think it's better to use the swing with the net material as the hammock, cos I think sarongs could be a bit thicker and there's the danger of suffocation...

ya thats true.. my 1st child 3 years ago sleeping on the bed without air con was really hot.Thurs we will using sarong 1st once sleep deeply then only transfer back to the bed.
my 2nd child now was on caring by my mother in law since im in confinement. our living room was hot too so my mother in law will transfer my 2nd child from the bed to sarong and let her sleep deeply and peacefully. At night she sleep in the room with air con so not that fussy.

Hi. Am loving all those positive feedbacks. Thanks for sharing cause you guys really put most of my doubts to rest.

Am pondering over billow bonka's post. When my baby needs to sleep, I am already rocking him in my arms or on my thighs. Don't think a baby can go to sleep without some kind of rocking unless just leave him on the bed till he go to sleep himself but kesian la, like that. tongue.gif

As for the motor thing, dun't know la. to me, no difference between a fan motor and a sarong motor. Both used to move or rotate things, no?

for my son, i always use very light rock not like the old ppl rock it very very hard
for your information, when the bb in our stomach, we walk or doing anything, he will feel rocking
so it become a nature that rock could easily get to sleep as it similar to the environment bb hv in mum stomach
must take note that rock in constantly same speed, not sekejap fast sekejap slow

for my case, my parent-in-law let my baby sleep at spring cot only when day light for napping purpose only... we will rock my baby when he trying to sleep while watching astro's babytv and will stop rocking once in the dream...

night time, my baby sleep in spring cot 1st and transfer into bed room with air con and sleep on top on normal mattress, my baby will sleep till the next morning and awake by himself (beside nagging for milk during night sleeping time)
