Hmm, i'm currently using 3d Studio Max too, however i'm really not good at it as i'm just started. I'm still in learning process, but, i'll be taking the AutoCad course at school soon as teachers requested.Maya, i also hear that it's more powerful and advanced, but is it true?

QUOTE AiRBooM says "btw, some other University uses Maya for thier course subject tool... i don't know why.. and i heard Maya is more advanced than 3Ds MAX?" oh yea.. the interface is much more easier (if you started with it) and they have fluid, fur, hair, cloth and lotsa animation helper built in. (but ofcuz you can get those in max 8 now except for the fluid) and their renderer is much advance and quicker than our 3ds max built in scanline renderer. but i'll still go with max, cuz i started with it... till now... |

it depends.. maya is good for character animation, but max 8 is already equipt with advance character tools to.. i work in post production house, my material file, output file, layer file are so large, this is becouse the client oftenly make so many revision.max asset management keep me on track for this large file..
if you like to make detail charachter.. i think you better choose maya...but if you need your work to be done fast, u better chose max..max 8 already improve it modelling technic to do complecated stuff.. in 3d industries.. majority of it are in architect and construction firm.. so majority work out there are using autodesk max 8.. dit you know maya already been bought by autodesk.. becouse there are loosing market? but if you want the most powerfull 3d program, u can look at Houdini... its to expensive though... and rarely use in malaysia or asia.. ![]() |

Softimage|XSI all the way... with the non-linear workflow, you're in heaven
QUOTE(max_ady @ Dec 2 2005, 02:50 PM) dit you know maya already been bought by autodesk.. becouse there are loosing market? Yea, it's old news but i still wanna say it... you have to realise that the 3d market is rather small when you compare it to the architecture and engineering markets. In my opinion, the acquisition is about Studio Tools series of Alias, which compliment Autodesk's core market: the CAD tools. So, it's not so much about Maya or Maxand... the name Autodesk Media & Entertainment surely means something... right? This post has been edited by zhenyang: Dec 2 2005, 09:56 PM |

i think thats the most hot topic....... Well i think depanding on what kinda thing you wanna to do..... >max you will find more speed and fast execution >maya you will find more control and more towards advance user. So.. if you plan to do simple thing with fast speed.... MAX if the best choice.. if you plan to do like TVC/movie... usually it req not just normal usage..but script. than maya will be more sud.... REALLY depanding ..... I find max good in >> architectual, texturing, rendering, light file i find maya good in >> animation, effect, setup, proper file/group management BOTH ARE THE BEST. |

FormZ for CAD, modelling and rendering.
Cinema4D and StrataPro for modelling and rendering. Vectorworks for CAD and basic modelling. Artlantis for rendering. SoftImage is one of the best and powerful app out there from what I gather. |
