If you use credit card or charge card overseas, you are liable for overseas transaction fees imposed by the bank. Obviously you did not read and took the easy liberty to just ask to get answers with no effort (Sigh) - we have many times stated AMEX is the most expensive. By stating what you said - would using your card in Singapore / Thailand / Japan / US / China / Sudan be charged extra ? Would a foreigner using their credit card in Malaysia be charged extra ?
The answer is NO!
Merchants do not have the right to charge extra when users use credit cards - these charges are always "imposed" because customers consented to the extra fees and allowing merchants to charge you extra. The extra fees are not allowed by the rules set by Mastercard and VISA International.
To the question of you want to use cash or cc - are you comfortable carry tons of cash around in Bali or would you prefer to carry a piece of plastic ?
Converting MYR to any foreign currency also attracts "exchange fees / exchange loss" at the money changer - have you thought of that ?
thx for sharing. The answer is NO!
