i wan to know those adsl modem which got router is better than no roter adsl modem?
whats the router purpose for?
is that any related with 4 port lan?
i dun understand those with router but dun have lan port but sum do have..........
or ....................
can any1 explain?

my company's IT guy told me the router serves as a "Firewalled PC" to internet so if any virus or spyware attacks then our real "PC" won't kena directly, it's like another layer of protection between us and internet, it also enables internet sharing effortlessly as it is preconfigured.

it's true that i ended annoying spyware problem after changing to aztech 3100R 4-port router, before that i always get strange messenger popups and weird startup programs in my pc.

A Modem is Just to get the signal
A Router is to "Route" the traffic from Many computers to 1 Public Address for output and the "Route" the input back to all the computers inside

Firewall, Virtual server/Port forward, etc etc are Just some Extra Function to Complete the whole Routing process.

A Router+Modem+4Port Switch is something like all in one function.
So you don't need
1x Modem
1x Router(With simple firewall)
1x Switch

To Share the Traffic to all the PC in your house.

Modem function is very simple. (Almost all modem are same, well some are more sensitive)

Router and firewall are the Special Part.

For normal Home/SOHO traffic, normal SOHO/Home Router will do
but for Enterprise with 50~250 PC, you will need a powerful Router otherwise most people will get something like timeout, and host not found, too busy... and etc.
