Subang Jaya project gets the thumbs down

SUBANG JAYA: As many as a dozen representatives from various residencies in Subang Jaya came together yesterday to voice their objection against the selling of serviced apartments by a company.

Wangsa Baiduri Neighbourhood Association vice-chairman Haneef Gordon said there was no way the current infrastructure can support an additional 1,989 apartment units as the area is already facing traffic congestion.

“The hospital (Sime Darby Medical Centre) is already creating a traffic issue in SS12, I don’t see how an additional 1,900 cars can be accommodated by the existing infrastructure,” he said during a press conference recently.

The development was approved by the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) under the pretence that it was only an extension to the Grand Dorsett Hotel and was approved as “hotel suites”.

However, the developer, Malaysia Land Property Sdn Bhd (Mayland), started selling the units as serviced apartments and about 1,200 units have already been sold to the public.

MPSJ had requested the Housing and Local Government Ministry to revoke the development’s selling permit but has yet to receive a response.

Gordon said Mayland was also deceiving the public on the development’s status.

“Innocent buyers have no idea they are buying what has been rejected (by MPSJ), they will have to service loans and such and when it (selling permit) is retracted they will be put in a spot,” he said.

Gordon pointed out that although it wasn’t MPSJ’s fault as they were deceived as well, he is disappointed in the way the council is handling the matter.

He said the council should do more to address the issue and should at least inform potential buyers of what they are getting into.

SJRA chairman A.S. Gill said the deception by Mayland was unacceptable.

“MPSJ and all the RAs in the area have met with Mayland before, they maintained that they are merely building extensions and upgrading the hotel. That was their story to get residents to approve the development,” he said.

He said traffic around apartment buildings was always congested and will affect the surrounding areas.

An additional access road set as a condition by MPSJ for the development has also yet to be built, with Mayland passing the buck to MPSJ to propose a new route.

“I have no idea how MPSJ can open up another road, unless they do it in the air,” Gill remarked sarcastically.

He also requested MPSJ to have more consultations with residents before developments are approved.

Subang Jaya state lawmaker Hannah Yeoh (pic)said the lack of an access road as outlined by MPSJ opens up the possibility of legal action to be taken against Mayland.

“MPSJ is currently consulting an outside lawyer to study legal options that can be taken against Mayland,” she said.

The lawmaker’s office and the residents are requesting that MPSJ suspend all other applications for development from Mayland regarding Dorsett Place Waterfront.

She also slammed the ministry for their lacklustre response, saying that they must properly check and inspect developments before giving approval. Also present at the conference was MPSJ councillor R. Rajiv.
