1) depends who is an average user, which smartphone nowadays can last more than 24 hours of use?...very rare.. like me i use the 710 to listen to music mainly, wifi or 3g i only on when i need it and games once and a while when ive got nothing to do, it can last me a whole day 9am-9pm easily, still have remaining battery once i get home maybe around 30%. so it really depends on the user. i find the battery life okay, no complaints.n if there a issues for this phone like lumia 710 because main issue i read in this forum

if i dont turn on wifi or 3g and only use for just a handful of sms and short calls, i got it to last a little more than 2 days once
2) GPS was due to hardware issue from factory once repaired by nokia care it works perfectly. this is a hit or miss problem, some people dont have this problem so i guess its up to your luck lol...
i havent tried or seen the 610 for myself yet so i cant say anything on it
